Lyrics for Indie Rock'n'Roll as interpreted by Linger:

Indie Rock'n'Roll Lyrics
Glamorous
Indie rock'n'roll is what I need
It's in my soul, it's what I need
Indie rock'n'roll, it's time

Two of us
Flipping through a thrift store magazine
She plays the drums, I'm on tambourine
Bet your, your bottom dollar on me

It's Indie rock'n'roll for me
It's Indie rock'n'roll for me
It's all I need
It's Indie rock'n'roll for me

In a clutch
I'm talking every word for all the boys
Electric girls with worn down toys
Make it up, break it up, what do you care
Oh what do you care?

I take my twist with a shout
A coffee shop with a cause, then I'll freak you out
No sex, no drugs, no life, no love
When it comes to today

Stay if you wanna love me, stay
Oh don't be shy, let's cause a scene
Like lovers do on silver screens
Let's make it yeah, we'll cause a scene

It's Indie rock'n'roll for me
It's Indie rock'n'roll for me
It's all I need
It's Indie rock'n'roll for me

In a clutch
I'm talking every word for all the boys
It's Indie rock'n'roll for me
It's all I need
Makin' up, breakin' up, what do you care
What do you care?
It's Indie rock'n'roll for me

Two of us
Flipping through a thrift store magazine
It's Indie rock'n'roll for me
It's all I need
Makin' up, breakin' up, what do you care
What do you care?
It's Indie rock'n'roll for me

I freaking love this song so much! I can't wait to see them perform it live. It just has such a great, simple, stadium energy to it. Gives me goosebumps, and I love Brandon's voice! Wow!

i think indie rock n roll is a metaphore for a girl like "indie rock n roll for me" as in a girls name or "its all i need" (shes all i need) ya know well i dont know thats what i think

I know this is 'song meanings', and please nobody yell at me for being dumb, but i was wondering and i hope somebody here could just fill me in. I know there is a US, Uk, Japenese and French versin of the album, but i looked up the songs on those CDs, and the only songs on the other albums that weren't on the US album were 'under the gun', 'michael valentine', and 'indie rock and roll'. Then on the list of Killer's songs on this website there were a bunch of other songs, like 'stereo of lies', 'desperate' etc. Wasn't 'Hot Fuss' their first album? Sorry but if any body has time to explain that i'd appreciate it. Thanks.

lil_1... umm that was just a stupid comment.. not an interpretation. *insert eyeroll*

Since no else seems to be able to interpret this song, I shall post an interpretation for those who are looking for one.

This song is basically taking the piss out of the American indie scene. We have this close-minded indie scene in America that says if music is mainstream/popular, then its bad. (listening to music only if its "unpopular") Which is just as bad as someone who only listens to music if its cool.
Hopefully, this post will help those who don't quite understand the song. The whole thing is sarcastic.
Now, interpret away. No more of this "omg Brandon so s0 hawt" crap. *~*rolls eyes once again*~* Regardless of my personal opinion as to his appearance, this site is for song interpretation, not fangirling.

sorry.. I meant starryeyes although lil_1 was just fangirling too.

Seriously people (girls), this is an awesome band that writes great songs, it depresses me that instead of song interpretation, all I'm seeing is "brandon is s3xy". There are 4 guys in this band, and its about the music first and foremost.
Again, this is a song *meanings* site, if you have nothing more to say that so and so is hot.. maybe you should not be posting. No one should have to wade through that to get to an actual intelligent post about the meaning of a song.

Thanks for your meaning madrigal82. The song is describing people that are trying so hard to be "cool" by being into indie music, and they try to make out like its their world and they are dedicated to being "indie". I definetly understand the whole mentality that popular music is not cool, its a lot like that here in Oz too. Still have no idea what "coffee shop with a cause? and "in a clutch....im talking every word for all the boys" means, any ideas?

Well, I think coffee shop with a cause may have to do with the fact alot of indie bands play at coffee shops. There are coffee shops are part of the indie scene. That make sense? I think in the clutch is kind of saying that he's in the clutch of the music. Talking every word for all the boys, he showing that he's knowledgeable about indie music/ the indie scene. To be "in" the indie scene, you have to be in the know. I think thats what its talking about. Its sarcastic though so really its making fun of those people. Those people who listen to nothing but indie music and the moment they sign to a label write them off and say they've sold out, blah blah blah.
Thats my thoughts on it anyway.

This is one of my least favorite Killers song, although I do kind of like that it is taking a stab at the whole indie thing.

It's kind of hilarious though...apparently a lot of people in the UK took this song seriously. It either pissed them off or they loved it. Like an indie anthem of sorts.

I agree with Madrigal82 taking the piss out of the indie rock scene was the goal here.
Also i'd like to point out that i believe musicly he's taking the piss too... I believe he's trying to squeeze in as many indie cliché's into the song both musicly and lyricly, if you listen to the MANY different styles used to build up and break down the song, it has all the elements of every indie rock n roll song in one song :)

I think "talking every word for all the boys" is a reference to how he's actually singing the song at the time - meaning it's easy for all the boys to sing the words coz he's talkin them (which is very indie)

It could be "making up, breaking up" which would make more sence for me in typical indie rock n roll bands style of breaking up, reforming etc.

But I have to say I love the song - when he sings "It's indie rock n roll" for the first time I honestly believe I can hear the smile on his face as he sings the chorus with such "indie passion"

He just loves music a lot.

But yeah then he goes on to say "Oh don't be shy, let's cause a scene. Like lovers do on silver screens..." and you know he's probably just referring to the song as a female? Make the music into a big spectical?

I love it though. Love it sooo much.

(lucky101man)

He's saying 'Make it up, Break it up" not "making up breaking up"

He could just be speaking about his love for indie music and like its a woman.

I don't get he's taking the piss out of it, that's stretching the lyrics I dunno.
