Dig deep dig in deeper you go where only fools fear to tread
You'll find devices to kill your master why not kill your maker instead
Leave it to the ones that own you leave it to those ones to
Disown you put faith & trust in the dusk Do what you must do

[Bridge]
I'm getting edgy for those departed left all alone left still forgotten!

[Chorus]
Miles to go and sky's to fly
Hold back the day
Miles to go and sky's to fly it's darkest before the Dawn

Claw hard now from your casket
Six feet and getting deeper should the top,
Soil feel Heavy it must be getting weaker Towers people build,
Up in life become frail and fall to the ground
Fuck them there opinion Deceiving the Honest Man!

[Bridge]

ALways ,always ,darkest before the dawn

[Chorus]

General Comment:well reading all the other comments, this is what I came up with:

"You'll find devices to kill your master.
Why not kill your maker instead?"

    - basically u will try and come up with reasons to not kill ur self (which are the 'devices') to destroy the thoughts of suicide (ur 'master'). but this doesn't work so u might as well kill the 'maker' of these
    suicidal thoughts, ur self.

"Put your faith and trust in the dusk.
    Do what you must do"

    - put ur trust in the darkness u experience daily and kill ur self

    "I'm getting edgy
    for those departed
    Left all alone
    Left still forgotten!"

    - here the persona(Dez)is saying that people that kill themself are going to be forgotten so he's trying to convince them to live life as seen in the next part.

"Miles to go and sky's to fly
    Hold back the day
Miles to go and sky’s to fly
    It's darkest before the dawn"

    - so many things to see and do, hold back the day u die.

    "Claw hard from your casket.
    Six feet and getting deeper."

    - (metaphor) the harder you try and forget about the shit life you have, the deeper you seem to be getting into this problem

"Should the top soil feel heavy,
    It must be getting weaker."

    - should the top soil i.e. the foremost problem still be feeling this heavy?? even though u are trying to get ur self out of this mess "claw hard." the opposite should be happening but its not.

"Towers people build up in life
Become frail and fall to the ground"

    - Sometimes you see people that have lived a great life come way down to shit. This prevents a person from finding ways to not kill themself because like these people, they would only end up miserable in the end

    "Fuck them, their opinion.
    Deceiving the Honest Man!!"

    - Fuck these people, u are not them. they are deceiving you so hold back the day u die.

so yeh, I dunno. I assume its about suicide and the attempt at preventing people from doing it.

    Just an opinion...

General Comment:I'm not sure if it's suicide. To me it seems about how people who are dead are quickly forgotten. Soon It,s like they never even existed at all. All that is left to show that they even existed is people who survive them and photographs.

If they where not famous people won't even know they existed. he is saying that he thinks about them.

General Comment:Great song. No doubt about it. Great band too. This is one of the most challenging songs I've ever headbanged to. The pace in the chorus is almost painful!

I had a quick scan of the lyrics and the first thing that struck me was its vampire themed.

    The chorus

Miles to go and sky's to fly
    Hold back the day…
Miles to go and sky’s to fly
    It's darkest before the dawn…

For me its a vampire with a proverbial axe to grind. and that he has so much to do before the sun rises. Hence "Hold back the day"

Sounds like there is a lot of anger and comtempt in there too. like he's creating an opinion of humans in general. Maybe revenge on someone who wronged him before he turned, or maybe even the one who turned him.

I'm gonna start to ramble if I keep this up, but thats what I got from it, although the suicide theory was also a good one.

General Comment:this song might be about necrophilia. "miles to go and skies to fly" might mean fucking and "im getting edgy for those departed" means he wants to get his dick wet and "hold back the day" means he wants to hurry up so he doesnt get caught and "always darkest befor the dawn" might mean he only fucks corpses at night...

General Comment:I agree with the above, it's about death - but for some reason, this song screams "suicide" to me.

    "Dig deep, dig in deeper.
You go where only fools fear to tread.
You'll find devices to kill your master.
Why not kill your maker instead?"

Digging, as in you're digging your own grave.
Kill your master - kill the reason why you're upset, or suicidal.
Kill your maker - kill the maker of the upset, which is yourself.

"Leave it to the ones that own you…
Leave it to the one to disown you…
Put your faith and trust in the dusk.
    Do what you must do…"

You're leaving the grief with those who are still living. To "put your faith and trust in the dusk" I think is to say "This situation is the death of me, I can't get out of it" - to be suicidal over something.

    "I'm getting edgy…
    For those departed…
    Left all alone…
    Left still forgotten!"

He's getting edgy for those who didn't get to live their life to the fullest. Obviously, Dez has got to have a pretty good life right now, and he's sad that some people don't experience it all.

"Miles to go and sky's to fly
    Hold back the day…
Miles to go and sky’s to fly
    It's darkest before the dawn…"

I think this bit is saying that he's got miles to go and skies to fly - he wants to hold back the day he'll die. "It's darkest before the dawn" is one of the best metaphors I've heard. He's saying that people shouldn't be upset or suicidal, there's so much more in life to live for.

    "Claw hard from your casket.
    Six feet and getting deeper.
Should the top soil feel heavy,
    It must be getting weaker.
Towers people build, up in life…
Become frail and fall to the ground…
    Fuck them, their opinion.
    Deceiving the Honest Man!!"

This verse to me is about the act of committing suicide itself. "Fuck them, their opinion, decieving the honest man" to me is saying that it's as if you're decieving all those who appreciated your life when you do it.

Maybe all that is a load of bullshit and doesn't make a bit of sense, but that's just my opinion and my interpretation. Take it as you may.

    General Comment:Well i can interpret:

'Hold back the day'=Not wanting something to happen, trying to stop it. death of someone maybe?

'Im getting edgy for those deprated'=departed meaning someone who has passed on. Getting anxious for someone who has passed on?

'Left all alone…Left still forgotten!'=meaning people have forgotten about people have passed, not caring.

So all i can really tell is death. But yeah, could be something totally different.
