I recognised these coz they're paraphrased from an old Christian hymn (http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/m/y/mysongis.htm). What an awesome song tho! It's SO simple and it's lovely.

This song, to me, is about a girl who wants to hide away from feelings she has for others, but yet one person has feelings for her in the same way as she does and he wants to get the message home that she doesnt have to be on her own, even though he feels her heart is made of stone and there is no way of getting that point across, he is going to keep trying because she is 'the target he is aiming at'

To me, this song runs deep. This girl is scared. She's denying any feelings that she has for this guy and completely ignoring his dire attempts to her. It's so hard to get to her, but he can't stop...
sorry i went off on my own tangent guys, thats probably not what the song is about but that's what's happening in my life easily related to thanks to chris martin

This song is lovely-its the scientist of XandY- i think coldplay acoustic songs are their best cos they show how great chris martins voice is- The lyrics 'On a platform I'm gonna stand and say
That I'm nothing on my own' is very powerful as it is chris martin saying that he is nothing on his own and doesn't care who knows.

this song was on a coldplay mix cd my very-recently-ex-boyfriend who happens to be a coldplay fanatic just made me. to me, it's about us. she broke up with him, he wants her back. interesting how songs can be adapted to pertain to many different situations.

this song is just amazing. i cant believe how great this album is. you can listen to it straight through, there's not one bad song on it. and that is just rare for an album. it was definitely worth the 3 year wait!

and rocketqueenz I too downloaded it from limewire before it came out, however I dont have like 3 of the songs because either they sucked and werent the real songs or the file was "corrupted" lol so if you can let me know how you got every single one of them that would be awesome. if you have aim please im me because I dont check this alot lol my sn is roxy00823. thanks so much

To me, this song seems to be about two people who are in denial about their feelings for eachother. Then one day, one of them just breaks down and tells the other that they love them.

I just love the part where it goes, "And I'm not gonna take it back/Oh I'm not gonna say I don't mean that." It's such an unabashed declaration of one person's love for another. Coldplay's new album rocks!

I also relate to this song as a boy (me right now) who cant get the girl he wants. In first stanza i guess the "my song is love, love to the loveless shown" can be translated to "my life is love, love to the loveless shown". RIght now I dont have love, but i look at it everyday in shape of the girl i love. The guy in the song just cant help being in love and begs her to accept him.
Second stanza,he says that "can she not see?" And again that it would be best for the 2 of them to be together.
In the chorus he cannot take back what he has said (for me, i cannot take back that i already told her i love her), and he cannot say that he doesnt love her cuz that would be lying. And he has to get the message through to her.
In the third stanza its a bit of the first stanza again, but he also tells her that he loves her so much, He's on fire for her, clearly = He loves her and she knows it.
In 2nd chorus a line is added which just tells that living without her is a hell.
In the fourth stanza he has given up, and then he finds out that she actually liked him too i think, but then its too late, maybe because she's with another guy now.
And then he is on this platform and cant move on, he's stuck without her and is nothing.

This is as I see the song, cause thats how i can relate it to my own life, actually in a very similar way.

Plain out gorgeous. I don't know about the one being sung to being scared, but i see it more as just someone who cares so much about somebody and who just wants for them to be close.

I completely agree with the consensus: if you love someone, you have to tell them, no matter what the situation or what the consequence.

I always thought the second line was "love to the loveless shores", however. I think I hear it that way because I want to connect it to "Warning Sign": "you were an island and I passed you by..."

Anyway, such a connection is probably all in my head, but it doesn't take anything away from the song by not being there. It's my favorite song on X&Y, and I think it would've made a good track 1. I'm playing around with a re-ordering of the tracks right now. So far this is what I've come up with:

i love this song, the lyrics are raw. they "tell it like it is" i cant point out one spot because they are all like that. Chris Martin displays the music perfectly. it's also interesting to see how other people relate it to themselves and what they're going through. (i do too!)

i love the whole coldplay album and i havent always been a fan. but im hooked now. every song can relate to you in a different way.

i dont know what there is to write because everything is amazing.

Ever since I got the X&Y album I've been obsessing over it. This song is incredibly beautiful, I just can't get over it. But I do think some of the lyrics are incorrect:

In the beginning it's not 'And it's so hard to see YOU clearly'.

It's just 'And it's so hard to see clearly'.

And a bit after that it's not 'OH I'm not gonna say I don't mean that'.

It's 'WELL I'm not gonna say I don't mean that'.

Anyway, it's totally breathtaking. Most of the Coldplay songs are!

Oh, and I forgot this one:

In the very end, I think it's not 'My song is love, is love I know'.

I believe it's: 'My song is love, is love unknown'.
That kind of makes more sense anyway.

I didn't take the time to read all of your comments, so pardon me if I repeat something someone has already stated.

The title of this song tells you exactly what it is. It's a message. Obviously, some kind of message or statement to the narrator's love. It almost gives you the vibe that the narrator has his love seated, and he's telling her all these wonderful things. The chorus confirms that the narrator is not planning on letting this love go. Perhaps his love is unrequited, and he cannot wait any longer- thus sending this message to the girl.

This song reminds me of my boyfriend. He was the target I was aiming at for quite some time, and I gave him the message that I liked him, too.
