Lyrics for Fix You as interpreted by emgee

Fix You Lyrics
When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

When high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I . . .

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I . . .

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

This song is featured on a great documentary called "Young at Heart" about an old hippy who is a choir director and introducing modern songs to his 80 year old choir members. It is a great movie and you should see it! The gentleman who sings it in the movie convinces me that this is about death and the folks that say it was written for Gweneth when her father passed away seem to be on the right track in my opinion.

Let me first start off by saying this is probably one of the most emotional, sentimental, beautiful songs I've ever heard. With that said... I think most people kind of get the wrong meaning from this song.

It's clearly a guy, singing about being there for a girl, 100%. Perhaps a best friend, a long-loved friend. The guy is willing to be there for the girl when "the tears come streaming down her face" because she "loses something she can't replace." He's saying that if she ever gets hurt by someone she falls madly in love with, he will be with there when the lights guide her home. He's saying he will be her fallback. he's promising to be better for her, and saying basically that when everything goes wrong, he's going to try very, very hard to make it all right for her. Because he loves her. With that said....

One of the best songs everr<33

The first time I heard this song was when Coldplay performed on BBC back... well, it had to be 2005... I was ten... and it always stayed with me... I always remembered "lights will guide you home and ignite your bones and I will try to fix you." Then my mom died... and I got X&Y for Christmas... I was moved so deeply by this song... I still love this song!!! It's one of my favorite overall, not just by Coldplay!!!

I heard Chris Martin wrote it about his wife, Gweneth Paltrow when her father died. And if you listen to it, it makes sense, it sounds like it's about death, not a break-up.

Hey everyone..
So this is my best friend and my song.
Let's just say, I've been through a lot; we can leave it at that.
To us, this song explains everything.
I haven't seen one other person comment and say what we think this song means.
But that's okay.
To us, this song is about a girl, who has been through a lot. Way too much. More than anyone should have to. And basically, this song is saything that the guy is never gonna leave her. Ever. This may be completely wrong. But that's what we think it is. That's why it;s our song; because no matter how bad things get, we'll always be there for each other. Forever <3

you never do know how much you're worth to you're loved ones. Lights will guide you home, are people in your life that understand and love you for who you are, none the less, it doesn't matter who you are there ARE people in the world that think about and love you... hope indeed. When you love someone and it goes to waste sounds like a missed opportunity to let someone know how much you love them... and it's terrifically sad... then it hits me... tears stream down your face... a process of learning because you're getting fixed and learning.

Beautiful song,

I think it's about being in love with, or friends to, who's been hurt in the past, and trying to console them. Probably wrong, but that's what I got from it.

Post 388!
If ppl would read just a few of the former
posts they would learn that about 100 other
ppl have already stated that the song is about
Gwen/death/dementia Jeez! However, it is art
so it's to be interpreted anyway you feel. The
father/daughter thing was an interesting take I
have never thot of tho. This song kinda reminds
me of God. The music video was AMAZING I love
the part were the audience sings along, its
beautiful! Anyway, Yup I completly ~LOVE~ this
friggen' song!

It really pisses me off in a wishful type way.
Does anybody know what I mean? Like it's toooooo
sweet, no boy is ever going to say anything that
Earthshakingly reassuring and poetic and beautiful.
Screw you and your poetic, sexy ways Mr. Martin.
Gwen is the luckiest EVER!

I hate this song! I hate it so much. Maybe I'm being a bit unfair, because the only time I ever hear this song is at work, where it's noisy and the store speakers aren't that powerful, but I just cannot stand it. Hearing his whiny, falsetto voice over the PA speakers drives me crazy. My friend and I always joke that this is the naptime song because it's just so blah.

Maybe this song is about a relationship seen from the best friend's point of view?
I mean, maybe.. Maybe this guy (the best friend) is deeply in love with this girl, but she's already in a relationship. She doesn't know about his feelings for her, so whenever she has had a fight with her boyfriend, she comes crying to him.
And every time he has to watch her break; and it's up to him to fix her.

Also, when I read New Moon I couldn't stop playing this song in my head.
It fits so well with how Jacob feels about Bella.

It almost sounds to me, like it's from the perspective of a neglectful father losing his daughter to addiction. He wanted to be there for her so badly (after discovering her self-destruction - which she may have learned and picked up from his own) that he kept trying to ween her away from the lifestyle. But she was too caught up in her actions because he was never there for her to be a real father to begin with, and it had only seemed like he was just NOW deciding to care about her in a real way, instead of a "let's get screwed up" way. And so everytime he'd try to fix her, to steer her in the right direction, she'd turn him away and tell him "you're not my father, you were never there for me, why do or should you care now? Besides, you taught me to be this way."

Eventually, she ODs and dies. And all he's left with is "I promise you, I will learn from my mistakes." And quits his own lifestyle to save another before it leads to the same road twice.

He's literally talking to her memory.

The chorus is a reference to her death (lights guide you home), cremation (ignite your bones), and probable rebirth through someone else (fix you).

i know what this song actually means, but this song speaks to me with such a different meaning. Thats the beauty of this song, everyone can relate to it somehow. i went through a big depressing time with a boy i was in love with, i lost somthing to him i cannot replace, i stayed awake for weeks crying over him, i didnt want to let him go because i was too in love with him.
"And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?"
those lines sum up exactly how i feel. nothing is a worser pain then heartbreak.

"Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you "
this verse gives me hope, someone will come along and fix me, some nice boy will come along and treat me right and make me feel ok again.

i love this song so much.

I think it's about looking down a path with someone who is troubled. They need inspiration. You think you can provide it. Is that what's supposed to happen? Is this the path?

I think this song is from Chris Martin to Gwenyth Paltrow because being her husband and knowing that her father died and she suffers from depression, I think this song is from him telling her that he'll try to do whatever he can to make her feel better...fix her

I think this song is about losing someone you love. Most likely to death. You want to do anything and everything you can to "fix" them, to keep them alive and well, but sometimes you just lose. The intro music reminds me of funeral music. And the "lights will guide you home" makes me think of heaven.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this suggested yet...

I always thought this song was about losing your virginity maybe when you're not ready. I could be wrong but that was always how I took it.

Just a few lines sort of red flag it for me:

When you get what you want, but not what you need
-Lots of young girls feel like sex is what they need, and then they find out the hard way that it wasn't what they wanted.

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
- This stanza in particular really really says it for me. Most of them are self explanatory. Depending on the circumstances, alot of girls cry after their first time. Virginity or innocence is not something you can replace, and young teens feel like they do it out of love and as a result some people take advantage of that. Therefore, the love goes to waste.

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
- Perhaps a promise from the person who took advantage of her "love"? And regrets taking it away from her.

Take it anyway you want it, but I think thats the greatest part of this song. Its open to many translations.
