The creator of what's now cliche had some funny words to say
?All you little things are incomplete?
Why did he speak of us that way?
I don't cry not 'cause I don't care
It's very hard to feel the way we used to feel up there
The creator of what's now cliche
Wants us little things to cry and feel alone

But don't don't lose hope no no no no
No no no don't feel sad 'cause it's a violent world
But there's still beauty
I'll take care of you if you take care of me

I like to sit and listen to the sound
Of the snowflakes landing on the trees
But I can't get used to feeling cold
I can't get used to what has happened here to you and me
There's no escaping so I won't try
It's just the heaviness that comes with knowing you will never die

My Interpretation:the title of the song makes me thing it is about the judeo-christian sort of gad who created us with immortal souls and then repudiated us, or sort of disowned us (on account of being incomplete) and why would he say that about us if he made us? clearly he wants us to cry and feel loneliness, and the part about not cryin gnot for lack of care, cause its hard for us to feel bad about our sins when we cant seem to recall what perfection was like (when we were in heaven, up there, so to speak, before being sent down here).
the part about whatxs now cliche would jsut refer to how he created earth and its pretty magnificent and all but we are over it, now we're more bent on trying to fix its problems then being in awe of it.

then he goes on about how one can stil find beauty in life inspite of its bad cause i guess thats about all one can do, . but life is frustrating when you like listening to the snow but you never get used to the cold. its a constant struggle, which is tiring when you know you will never die (I can only speculate that "what has happened here to you and me" is the "fall of man" or soemthing like that, idk. just some thoughts.

General Comment:yeah definitely existential. anyone ever read the plague? because the idea of a person dying relates to their importance to the person who had known them, if that makes sense.

i.e., a character wished not to be a murderer by forgetting the people he once knew and loved. remembering them causes some sort of pain or heartache, so opting to push them out of his mind relieves him of the pain. by forgetting them, he murders them, for they cease to exist to him and may as well have not existed.

judging by his lyrics and even the band name, i don't think barnes is one to forget the people he has known in the past. for example, the immortals are the people barnes knew and he is the god that created their importance to him.

that, or the people are immortal because they will leave on and find meaning in life despite being abandoned or "killed" by those who once knew them.

this song reminds me of the last bit of into the woods

General Comment:I love the way of Montreal uses upbeat songs even to convey really meaningful ideas...
I think that the "Creator" is God, and he's abandoned us, but there is beauty even in a God-less world.
    Amazing song.

General Comment:This is my fave OM song! It just reminds me of feeling completely worthless and everything becoming pointless and cliche. It's pretty sad but uplifting at the same time.

General Comment:This song def relates to existentialism. whether inadvertently or not, existentialism tells one that even with the utter absurdity of the world, one can still find purpose.

General Comment:Okay... I thinks it's about Adam and Eve.

"The creator of what’s now cliché" is Satan.

    The cliché is lies
    --Satan was the first liar.

"All you little things are incomplete"
--How the Devil said that if Eve ate from the tree, she would become like God. Knowing good and bad.

General Comment:When Kevin says "The creator of what’s now cliché had some funny words to say "all you little things are incomplete"" i think he is refering to how in christianity god makes humans feel small by denying them the feeling of worth.

General Comment:I always thought it was written from the point of view of an immortal being, someone who sees so many injustices and wrongs that they only assumption s/he can make is that god "wants his little things to cry". But at the end the immortal thing realizes that there is still beauty to the world and resolves to make the best of it. Something we all have to do at one point.

General Comment:I've been listening to this song for a year now and only after reading this page did I realize how much meaning this song actually has.

After discovering how incredible this song was, I started up a discussion with a friend about it. Now she went out and bought her first OM album(Sunlandic Twins), and she's loving it!

Music like this has alot of power.
