The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
I love...she makes me
She is my heart
She is my love
She is my love
I know you're jealous of her
She makes me need
She is my love
She is my love
Who knows who she'll make me
As I lie in her cocoon
But the world will surely heal my ills
I'm warm and terrified
She makes me so...
I know the day I leave her
I'd love her still
She is my love
She is my love
Who knows where my dreams will end?
I'll follow as they grow
But the world will know
How long I'll take
And if I'm very slow
She makes me so...
She is my love
She is my love
She is my heart
She is my love
She is my love
I know you're jealous of her
She makes me need
She is my love
She is my love
Who knows who she'll make me
As I lie in her cocoon
But the world will surely heal my ills
I'm warm and terrified
She makes me so...
I know the day I leave her
I'd love her still
She is my love
She is my love
Who knows where my dreams will end?
I'll follow as they grow
But the world will know
How long I'll take
And if I'm very slow
She makes me so...
She is my love
She is my love

Mountain Song

Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
always thought this would be a great final song on Sheer Heart Attack. i like the following song (In the Lap of the Gods...Revisited) and think it also fits well as a final song. but not as well She Makes Me. I definitely don't see any devotion to the Nazi party or a mother-son relationship here--all i see is a man's complete devotion to a woman who is pretty cruel to him. he knows he should leave her, and will leave her, but it will greatly pain him to do so.
They had Storm Troopers in World War I, long before the Nazis. 'Storm Trooper' is just dramaticspeak for 'Heavy Assault Infantry'.
That being said, I always thought it was about a guy who had it a little too bad over a woman who walked all over him.
Obviously, this guy is completely in love with this girl. But how the heck did Queen come up with the second half of the name: (Stormtrooper in Stilettoes)? It says nothing about any stormtroopers, and Star Wars hadn't even been made into a movie when Sheer Heart Attack was released... Oh well.
@erasmus11290 - it means that she is a bossy, domineering woman
HAHA...did you know that way before star wars, a "storm trooper" was a member of the nazi militia. Mr. May must have been suggesting that she was one mean lady.
I have been wondering (actually, this is my reasoning behind posting the song lyrics) could the narrator actually have been speaking of his mother? Think on it....
"I know the day I leave her/I'll love her still" Why would one plan on leaving such an adored companion? and furthermore...why would he plan on loving her still? The only person I feel that way about is my mum!! Feedback?
Yeah, it does make sense that it would be his mother. And a mother does tend to "make" her child and know all about him and his dreams and such. Maybe it's a really abusive or harsh mom.
Of course, looking at it on the most basic level, it seems to be about a man totally devoted to his girlfriend or wife, though he is also being manipulated by her. "I know the day I leave her/I'll love her still" He might be leaving a girlfriend to go off to war or something like that.
What I initially thought was that it was about a man's total devotion to the Nazi party, with a woman being used as a metaphor to illustrate how much he loves it. I just can't explain why someone that devoted to it would plan on leaving it...
When I hear this song I always wonder why Brian May sang it. I know he wrote it and often sang his own songs but Freddie also sang some written by him (eg. Teo Torriate or Dear Friends) Freddie's voice is just so superior to May's. This juxtaposition is made patently obvious by the fact that In The Lap of the Gods...Revisited comes next and we hear the true wonder that was Freddie's singing
@Token-Brit I think it had a lot more to do with Brian being alone in the studio for a lot of Sheer Heart Attack because he had been in the hospital and most of the other songs were done except for his guitar parts and arrangements. Basically he got into the studio and he they worked on a little bit together (like Now I'm Here, Stone Cold Crazy, and Brighton Rock) but then he was left to his own devises to finish up his parts on the other songs. He reportedly wrote this one because he felt like he hadn't contributed enough to this album and sang it himself (backing too I believe) and played most of the instruments while everyone was gone. I actually think they did a good job of picking the right person to sing a song on the albums. I think Brian's soft gentle voice sounds like the person in the song should (weak and dreamy) while Freddie might have been too strong for this song.
I think this song is about his mother. The title (stormtrooper in stilettoes) havent a clue, it sounds similar to the title of a gary numan song though.
The first verse is just about how he loves her. Then in the second verse it is easy to get this confused with a lover, and i kind of dont get it. The next verse is about how he was in her womb, and he was safe, then being born. The next verse is about when he's grown, and he knows he'll still leave her, or maybe he ran away from home, but knew he still loved her. The last verse is showing how she is watching over him, and how she knows how things will lay out for him.
The most boring song Brian ever wrote. I don't hate it though, 'cause most of what he wrote was awesome anyway.
I take that back, I do hate it. It almost ruins Sheer Heart Attack.
I've always liked this song because of its simplicity and straightforwardness. "Stormtrooper in Stilettoes" seems to have some connotations towards bdsm and the ending with the heavy breathing that stops and the sirens sounds kind of like bdsm gone too far.
