Like someone above said, even if you haven't been taken advantage of in one way or another, this song makes you feel like you have been. Every now and then a song comes along that makes me think about stuff I'd rather not think about. This song is one that makes me think the hardest. An acoustic version might be nice, but I think the harder version gives it, for lack of a better word, oompf. If a song ever "spoke" to me, this one is it.

i love this fucking song because it hits deep inside. this is probubly the only song to make me think about all the fucked up shit in my life that is going wrong. its a powerful song. i have been broken up with this girl for like 7 months and she has been able to move on but i can't even touch another girl or even think about another relationship because this last one was so perfect. like a dumbass i fell in love with this girl and this song makes me think about what went wrong and how i can fix it all and maybe get her back since i truly and deeply love her. fucking A this is just such a kickass song!

It's growing and growing on me! Yey! I love the new album.
It reminds me of the sublime song when he sings about how his girl is giving all her love away to other people and when she comes home she has none left for him. It's like Dave is asking his girl whether someone else is getting the best of her and there's none left for him. He's asking her if shes moved onto someone new, etc.

immensely profound in its lyrics, Foo Fighters have really outdone themselves...for me this song is about totally disbelieving in love, but still having to face its emotional effects..he basically wants to move on, but is trying to escape the hurt thatll eventually cause him.You gave me something that I didn’t have

I was too weak to give in...its what basically happens when u lose your faith in love,even if its given in its pure form, u cant put it to use! but still cant help having a residue of belief in your head and getting scared about whatll happen if u let go of smthin special...he doesnt want her anymore but is concerned about someone else getting the best of her, when he should if he'd only stick arnd, but he cant, and as he said he cant give in as hes too weak (weak meaning smone without morals or smthing), life is with her, death is being alone, and he cant choose(hed rather choose the adventure of uncertainity and death than the surity and boredom of love-I swear I’ll never give in

The complexity is amazing, i dont believe the girl dumped him, she loves him but is moving on because she knows hes not ready to take it anywhere serious(he knows that),and because he doesnt want to get tied up, so shes moving on and this song is basically about guilt that is real or imagined, cause u can choose the girl and stick there or u can move on because u think ure not ready..if u have a confusion regarding that, then ure fucked! and this song is the perfect expression of that..for me its come at the time in my life where smthin very similar is happening...so it seems tailor made for me... the best part being the line abt "Has someone taken your faith, its real, the pain you feel!!..thanks david!!

this probably isn't close to what dave intended, but i like to think that "someone getting the best of you" can be a good thing too, and in this song it goes both ways. kinda like in pearl jam's "can't find a better man"...

if you're giving your best to someone, that opens up the possibility of experiencing real pain when they let you down. by resisting, refusing to give in or to trust anyone, you won't experience that pain. but you'll also find yourself always "starting again, somewhere new."

i think this person is torn between giving his best to someone and risking that someone "getting the best of him," or resisting, not feeling that pain, but also never getting to experience the best things life can offer.

I've recently become addicted to this song, it just kind of hits home. You know, though, I don't think it's about a suffocating relationship. I think it's about much more than that.. like, this guy real feels like he's being kind of controlled, or pushed around. He gives his all, ya know, but it's never enough. Everyone's always disappointed, no matter who they are, and there's no one left to go to. He feels alone, then towards the end of the song, he starts to pick himself up, and he's telling you to never give up, that you always have yourself, ya know? Like, he's saying to never give up, don't let anyone or the man get you down. Be yourself.
Maybe it's about a relationship, but I see it as a guy stepping away from the edge and getting help.
Like I said, it just hits home, I can't wait to buy the album. I just started liking the Foo Fighters, and Dave Grohl and his lyrical and musical genius. And Times like These is a favorite too. Love the video.

well i thought it was about a relationship where the guy couldnt get the best out of the girl he didnt really want to or couldnt but he hopes that some other guy is getting the best out of her. saying that i REALLy like fingersalutes interpretation and its made me listen to the song differntly in a good way my own one sounds a bit pathetic now compared to others but anywhoo tis grrrreat song

This song is unbelievable. I bought the album and it rocks as well. Huge fan of FF since I heard All my Life, and Everlong. Sucks, they don't have an acoustic version on the other cd. But it still rocks!

Now for the meaning. Really relates to anyone whos in a relationship or broken up etc etc. As for me, its scary how the lyrics, with my interpretation, relates to me. Basically, the song is about a girl who breaks up with a dude but he doesn't want to end the relationship. they end up breaking up and the girl has another bf, the girl breaks up with this other dude and now she wants him back since now she knows how he felt when they broke up.


Now how this relates to me( since im guessing most people read this part.) There was this one girl, great relationship, loved her thought she loved back, but she didn't. well she did but not as strong as I did. I was "too weak", and let my gaurd down, and now im being "strong" meaning I tried hard not to let the relationship die but wasn't good enough. now theres this other guy shes seeing and well, you can fill in the blanks of how im feeling right now. And NOW, shes sad because of this dude.

Thats good enough.. Feelin this song

its about a guy who is used to have short crappy relationships and wanted this one to last.

There are lots of lines in this song that hit me strong and pull on the right strings. Find it hard to listen to without the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end. Depending how I'm feeling I look at this song in 2 completely different ways. I can look at it about my ex who I still really get on with. And think that if she had been with me how she is now that we'd still be together as when we 1st met I thought that she was the one. And there are also times when I can look at it as being sung about me. There were things that happened when I was just a kid that shouldn't have and the lines saying ''Has someone taken your faith?

That someone has taken the best. A real tearjerker either way.

Ok, i know it's been said to death, but i have a friend who seems to be going through what i think the song's about. He really likes a girl, and they were sort of dating, but now she's moved back to her ex-boyfriend, and is just screwing him over, after he gave so much to her.
That's my take on it

Oh i love this song, i think it means you just have to break free of everything and everyone that is holding you back and do what you want to do with you're life....dont let ANYONE get the best of you...and it fits for about any situation. anyway i really love this song AND the video...he makes it seem so meaningful...

I love the Foo Fighters, this song is amazing! I love the line "I needed somewhere to hang my head, without your noose". I think it's about someone who was once in a bad relationship with someone and is perhaps getting revenge on their ex.."The best of you". Very powerful lyrics.

i love this song, its one of those songs that grows on you from the very first time u heaer it and then u cant get enough of it, i love them! this song makes me think of a relationship were one perosn is being kinda controlled and used but they wouldnt care as long as the other person would telll them that they were using them and as long as someone else was getting the best of them.
