Lyrics for Best Of You as interpreted by Master_of_Puppets

Best Of You Lyrics
I’ve got another confession to make
I’m your fool
Everyone’s got their chains to break
Holdin’ you

Were you born to resist or be abused?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?

Are you gone and onto someone new?
I needed somewhere to hang my head
Without your noose
You gave me something that I didn’t have
But had no use
I was too weak to give in
Too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again
But I break loose
My head is giving me life or death
But I can’t choose
I swear I’ll never give in
I refuse

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh...

Oh...Oh...Oh...Oh...

Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love
You die to heal
The hope that starts
The broken hearts
You trust, you must
Confess

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?

I’ve got another confession my friend
I’m no fool
I’m getting tired of starting again
Somewhere new

Were you born to resist or be abused?
I swear I’ll never give in
I refuse

Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh...

i think this song is about moving on from any situation where you've become close to someone... a relationship/a friendship/whatever... & the feelings you have about that person being "gone & onto someone new" who is getting "the best" of that person that was previously only for you... & it breaks your heart. but @ the same time you know you need to move on from that person because they are holding you back or repressing you ("i needed somewhere to hang my head, without your noose") it's about that conflict of emotions when it comes to moving from from something.
it's great song :) (& there is NO WAY we can relate it to Kurt this time... lol)

I didn't particularly like the stuff the Foo Fighters put out recently, but this is a breath of fresh air. I like this song just as much as I liked the songs on The Colour and the Shape and I can't wait for this new album.

Yeah i think you've all pretty much nailed it, its about a nasty relationship. I agree in particular with what yello muse said.

I can relate to this song too, im going through it atm, glad there are awesome bands out there making powerful songs that aren't just fucking shitty emo. \m/

I just saw Foo Fighters live on TV perfroming this song, and i have a whole new meaning of the song. Dave is a legend, he was great with nirvana (although his talents were possibly wasted on drums) and i think he just keeps getting better and better. He's amazing. You can interpret the song as being very positive, speaking of new begining's and 'rebirths' so to speak, and when he sings "is someone getting the best.. the best of you" you feel happy, like he is telling you not to let yourself go to waste, to allow someone be witness to you and see the best in you. The other side to the song is heart-wrenching and quite mournful in a way. It speaks of death, pain, helplessness/uselessness, abuse etc. When dave sings "is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you", its almost stalking. He makes you feel taken advantage of, like you've been ripped off or taken for a fool. I have to admit, until tonight I'd only ever heard 2 of Foo Fighter's songs. Im a huge nirvana fan, but i think Dave has accomplished something more complex than nirvana. You listen to Foo fihgters, you watch them and you cant help but feel joy. You do the same with nirvana, and you cant help but feel the burden of kurt's sadness. You feel kurt's emptiness, and most of all his lack of absense. Maybe this is because dave's songs are impersonal, where as you have to make your own sense out of kurts lyrics.. Basically, I think there is more to dave than what meets the eye. I love this song, and i've become a deifnite foo fighter fan.

Never been a big Foo Fighters fan, but I heard this live on Rove last night and have been playing it ever since. It's so emotional and raw and the lyrics are very relatable which is probably why I was so attracted to it.

"Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love
You die to heal
The hope that starts
The broken hearts
You trust, you must
Confess"

at first i thought this song was about a break up, the girl daves singin about in th chorus had moved on, or is/was cheating on him, hence '...is someone gettin the best of you...' and the rest is kinda about the realisation of the situation, on both sides.

This song is about someone cheating on him "Is someone getting the best of you.." and in the beginning he refused to beleive it, "I'm you're fool". Now he's realised she is and he's moving on "I'm no fool."...

Ok, enough with the ebonics, please. The hottest new jams from G-Unit can be found elsewhere...anyway. Wow, i never even bought One By One because every song i heard didn't interest me except for "Learn To Fly." This sound certainly reverts back to the form of The Colour and the Shape...Dave said this is what he believes to be the definitive Foo album as he thinks it's the best. One acoustic CD and one electric...sounds pretty intense. Can't wait. Later

ok I think this song is about bein in love with/havin strong feelings for someone that wants to feel the same way about you but is too afraid of being hurt again like they were in the past by some other person. The whole best of you subject makes that a possibility to me. Idk i may be way off but this just happened to me and after hearing this song it made a lot of sense to think of it that way.

When I listen to it, I feel like some parts, like the verses are going out to my ex boyfriend, while the chorus is to me, asking if he's getting the best of me. I'm his fool.

right back on form! i'm glad to hear a foo song this good, i thought they were off target with one by one.... this song is a classic, the best foos songs are the ones that just kick you up the ass! citizen dildo said it best back there, "I think it's about someone getting the best of you." hehe

Haven't been a big fan of the Foo Fighters but this song is exactly what I need. Yeah I reckon its about a past relationship where you need to move on or its gonna get the best of you.

You know you got to let this person go and you know its gonna end up the same way ie. in a broken heart where you come off second best. So resist the temptation to get back together: resist it or be abused again.

Doesn't anyone see the religious symbolism?? This song is about so much more than relationships.

Like someone above said, even if you haven't been taken advantage of in one way or another, this song makes you feel like you have been. Every now and then a song comes along that makes me think about stuff I'd rather not think about. This song is one that makes me think the hardest. An acoustic version might be nice, but I think the harder version gives it, for lack of a better word, oompf. If a song ever "spoke" to me, this one is it.
