Warden's calling for a lockdown, baby
He'll call on interim inequities
This is the last night in my body;
Assist in the escape
Warden's calling on a jailbreak, baby
He'll fly like only a jailbird could
He'll fly like only a jailbird could

Like a felon, he fell into scandals,
Scams, and master plans
To circumvent all circumstances
He thought to his throat,
"We can swallow this key and leave when we please"
Let's hope this stomach, stomach
Let's hope this stomach disagrees

Warden's calling for a lockdown, baby
He'll call on interim inequities
This is the last night in my body;
Assist in the escape
Warden's calling on a jailbreak, baby
He'll fly like only a jailbird could
He'll fly like only a jailbird could

"Make a clean getaway," he said,
With his hands outstretched
To nurse her neck
She lured him in with a masochistic kiss
And he wished he could be anywhere, be anywhere but here

Warden's calling for a lockdown, baby
He'll call on interim inequities
This is the last night in my body;
Assist in the escape
Warden's calling on a jailbreak, baby
He'll fly like only a jailbird could
He'll fly like only a jailbird could

Arm (he could be anywhere)
in arm we walk (but here, but here)
outside (he could be anywhere)
so that all we've done was not in vain. (but here, but here)

Warden's calling for a lockdown, baby
He'll call on interim inequities
This is the last night in my body;
So assist in the escape
Warden's calling on a jailbreak, baby
He'll fly like only a jailbird could
He'll fly like only a jailbird could

Warden's calling for a lockdown, baby (Somehow,)
He'll call on interim inequities (for now,)
This is the last night in my body; (this skin will have to do.)
So assist in the escape
Warden's calling on a jailbreak, baby (Somehow,)
He'll fly like only a jailbird could (for now,)
He'll fly like only a jailbird could (this skin will have to do.)

This is the last night in my body, yeah.
[repeat until end]

    General Comment:I can see where you are coming from wordage, you could say that a bad relationship is something the protagonist is trying to get out of, but the song still brings the message of "striving to be a better person each day", and gettinh out of a tumultous relationship can be just that.

    The Warden is himself, he calls for a lockdown, he does not want to break free of his addiction/unhealthy state of mind/what-have-you, citing "interim inequities" as an excuse. This is when the "This is the last night in my body' comes in, and with that motivation he orders a jailbreak, to do away with the addiction.

    "Somehow, for now, this skin will have to do", I get a slight Christian vibe based on the perspective of "for now". Not unthinkable since some of the band members thank God in the album credits.

    "We can swallow this key and leave when we please". The key represents your power in overcoming an addiction, when your key is in your 'stomach' you should not think that you can easily get out of an addiction, we should not overestimate our own self-restraint and underestimate the power of an addiction. The next line "Let's hope his stomach disagrees", regurgitate out the key to be able to use it.

    That is how I view it.

    My Interpretation:Okay so I don't usually comment here, but I have to add my two cents:

    I think you guys may be digging a little too deep. I think the song is using the prison escape to express escaping from a relationship.

    The other explanations seem viable but not practical to me, especially for the genre of music.

    So, if you think about escaping a prison, it's pretty easy to compare that to a relationship and getting out of one. To start, I think the warden is himself. And I think the 'Lockdown' is the breakup. Which he wants, he's calling. And put in simpler terms 'interim inequities' would mean, simply, unfairness in the duration of a period of time, e.g. that's his reason.

    'This is the last night in my body' wholly applies to this context if you ask me, as well as the context that came from that earlier post about how this line came about from the drummer. I'm going to have to say the first verse after the chorus is saying this person basically fell in love against his will and before he realized how committed he was, could just just leave if he wanted.

    But to me that's all supporting information, what really gives it away to me is:

    "Make a clean getaway," he said,
    With his hands outstretched
    To nurse her neck
    She lured him in with a masochistic kiss
    And he wished he could be anywhere, be anywhere but here

    A clean getaway? I don't think I need to elaborate on that one. But I believe he was saying it to himself, and not her, the lover or whoever it is. I think the other party actually doesn't know anything about the 'getaway' kind of how a Warden wouldn't in regards to a inmate. That being said, when I hear the next line I actually picture someone holding their girlfriend, showing the emotion of love but planning to leave, and thinking just that in their head. Then exactly how he was lured into the relationship, he's lured into a masochistic kiss. And he wished he could be anywhere, be anywhere but there.

    General Comment:I dont know if this is where TREOS got this line, but the line "That was the last day I was in my body" is from a play called How i Learned to Drive by Paula Vogel. The song is about pediophillia, and im not sure if that is where they got the line of not, but it could be an interesting connection if it was.
