This is nothing like it was in my room
In my best clothes
Trying to think of you
This is nothing like it was in my room
In my best clothes

The English are waiting
And I don't know what to do
In my best clothes
This is when I need you

The English are waiting
And I don't know what to do
In my best clothes

I'm the new blue blood, I'm the great white hope
I'm the new blue blood

I won't fuck us over, I'm Mr. November
I'm Mr. November, I won't fuck us over
[repeat]

I wish that I believed in fate
I wish I didn't sleep so late
I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders
[repeat]

I'm the new blue blood, I'm the great white hope
I'm the new blue blood

I won't fuck us over, I'm Mr. November
I'm Mr. November, I won't fuck us over
[repeat]

I wish that I believed in fate
I wish I didn't sleep so late
I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders
[repeat]

I'm the new blue blood, I'm the great white hope
I'm the new blue blood
I won't fuck us over, I'm Mr. November
I'm Mr. November, I won't fuck us over

General Comment:I think the idea of presidency or failure or any of that is legit, but it is definitely not about Obama running for office. It's not possible.

General Comment:This song is about one person and one thing. It is clearly about Reggie Jackson and baseball. He simply knows that the postseason now runs deeper into the year. Hence he replaced Mr October with November. It could also be Buster Posey.

Song Meaning:Everyones interpretation of this song is wrong. This song isn't about scorpios or moving to america, it's about a tournament in a distopian future world, where young adutls are chosen by lottery to compete against eachother. It's annual event in which one boy and one girlfrom each of the twelve districts (January, February, March...November) compete in a televised battle to the death. 11 of the 12 districts live in poverty, which ever region wins gets to live in wealth for a year. The Character in the song is Mr. November, and he is friends with Mrs. November, when they were children they would play in his room pretending they were contestants in the event."This is nothing like it was in my room." The reality of the game is much different than make believe. The English own all the regions and are waiting for him to get dress in his best clothes, they are taking him to the battle grounds. There they inject him with nano machines to track him and follow his vitals in the game, giving him blue blood. He is the great white hope for his home town, in school they'd hold none lethal tournaments after he won the cheerleaders would pick him up and carry him around. He wants to believe in fate, this game is all he's ever wanted he use to dream about it when he'd sleep in late. Now he is on the battle field and doesn't know what to do. He tries to keep his head clear but he keeps thinking of Mrs. November. He doesn't want to fuck them over. He's Mr. November.

My Interpretation:This is a clever song that is simply about his move from America to England.

He Has skillfully interwoven many themes to describe this transatlantic voyage.

On one plane his move is an awkward one, almost like changing schools. If u have ever done this you know how it feels. Back home He was once loved by friends.. "used to be carried on the arms of cheerleaders" but now he stands in his best clothes trying to fit in. He has to prove himself again. "Cheerleaders" is a clever choice in the verse as it is very much part of American culture and not so much English... Which further reveals just how disconnected he is to his new surroundings.

On another plane, he cleverly describes this voyage in the way of conquest. Just like the way the English set out to conquer the Americas during it's colonization.

He brilliantly draws parallels between the two worlds, referring to his own American identity in the way of its independence from British influence. 'The great white hope' is a coined term during the industrial period when America became the more dominant Anglo-Saxon Power. 'Im the the new blue blood' is in reference to American independence from British rule (A term derived from the American national flag and its inception).

These references cleverly paint the picture of his feelings of isolation/loneliness and being lost and disconnected in England as a foreign american but at the same time suggest his determination to succeed like his forefathers once did. All the while hinting about the great pressure he feels when making this move.

"i wont fuck this over im mr november"

Mr November again is in reference to a unique distinction in american culture. An 'MVP' type of expression in sport and college. He was mr november.... Carried in the arms of cheerleaders. So not an English thing. He is psyching himself up as he make this voyage to England.

It's easier for me to see this because as an Australian we are exposed to both English and American culture.

General Comment:As much as I want this song to be of a different meaning, it just makes so much more sense as being the president of the country.

This is nothing like it was in my room
    In my best clothes
    Trying to think of you

Meaning growing up dreaming of president and seeing yourself changing the country all seemed to make sense and was so easy. As long as you looked the part then the rest came with it and at that moment its all about him trying to become president and the country comes second. So basically him campaigning.

    The English are waiting
And I don't know what to do
    In my best clothes
This is when I need you

Foreign politics, whether an initiation of war or some form of major decision is about to take place.
He does not know what to do anymore and hes even dressing the part. Therefore knowing there is more to the job. He needs his countries voice to give him an answer.

I'm the new blue blood, I'm the great white hope

He now knows he is America and what he has to do. He is the voice and as all presidents, at the beginning are praised.

I'm Mr. November I won't fuck us over

He is the president he won't let the people down

I wish I believed in fate
    I wish I didn't sleep so late
I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders

Everything used to make so much more sense, it all seemed to be mapped out (his term)
He starts to lose hope in his ability as president thus becoming lazier and not giving more time in the day towards his work to fix things. The people are growing weary of him, and as all humans are with possessions they are ready for change or a new president. This one no longer looks shiny.

The repeats at the end of the song are sung with much more emotion so I figure as all people do when they are in a slump. They find motivation and inspiration to make things better. They talk themselves up and do what they feel is necessary.

I can also see the president as being a form of symbolism.

General Comment:This has nothing to do with Obama. This song was written and released in may of 2005 so unless the band owns a time machine it's impossible. Don't miss out on the deeper meaning of this song. It's not a slogan the way the Obama campaign used it.

    twiliteminotaur has the correct interpretation

General Comment:ps. blue blood is a reference I reckon to how the poms are such toff lovers. They're the new toff, even for the toffs. And it's my bet (never having been there of course) that boys from Ohio ain't no toffs. Funny.

General Comment:When I listen to this song I think it's another one penned on the road. I mean, how amazing for these smart nerdy guys have been plunged into this parallel universe where Obama's got his arms around them and everyone fcuking loves them....to be so fated everywhere they go. The crowds are screaming in Tokyo and Singapore and all across Europe and the States and down here in Australia, we're screaming we're word perfect. It must be surreal. I think he's out in the green room, in his best clothes, hearing his name called. They're playing London and it's November and yeah, he's the great white hope.

I think these poet musos really are the great white hope, by the way. Like, who else would it be? Our politicians? I guffaw.

General Comment:The president explanation makes sense. And besides there are T-shirts with Obama's face and 'Mr November' words below it. They sale them on the National's oficial web site.
