  General Comment:the singer is reflecting upon some of his recent actions with regret, as what he has been doing could jepodise a particular friendship.. he keeps pushing the boundries & skating on thin ice, but suspects that this friend is slipping away from him.
  
  thus he is 'drowning' his sorrows, but it makes him feel the way he did 'yesterday'- i suspect it makes him feel bad as he states he feels like sinking/fading away.

  General Comment:I ran into one of my friends who happens to be an alcoholic and he showed me this band for that reason- he loves how he can relate to this cd. his take on this song, was that his best friend is his sobriety. when in any addiction, you lose a part of yourself that you took for granted since the day you were born. and that it is your sobriety. when this is lost, you NEED that drink, or whatever to make yourself FEEL sober or "normal" again. its not even about getting f'd up anymore. this is the battle of addiction. the constant struggle and fight from withdrawl. acutually needing that drink to feel "normal" like i said before. and when that happens, you lost your best friend, your self: your sober self...im kind of having a hard time explaining what im trying to say. what do you guys think? everybodies take on a song is always affected by their personality. this song is def one of my fav songs.

  General Comment:I think this song should be listened to with 'Hungover On a Tuesday' on the same album - the two work very well as a pair. This I see as the guy who has destroyed his friendship through alcoholism and the other as the friend who walks away from this sort of life. The line 'I think I may have found my best friend' hurts me every time, because it's so understated - this man, despite his apparent pain over losing his mate, realises that drink will always be his 'best friend'. So harsh, so true.

  General Comment:It could mean alot of different things.
  
  Depending on the mood, and mindset of the listener, it could kind've be a feel good song. A song of celebration. "A couple of drinks, I sway, I sway, I sway." kind've in that "tripping billies" by Dave Matthews band way.
  
  then you may want to consider what the meaning of the title is..."ZebraSkin" it could be a brand of hard liquor, who knows.
  
  But to me, This song makes me feel like he took a chance with one of his best friends, romantically, and it failed, thus making him fear he lost his best friend. So now he is having a couple of drinks to reflect on his error. It doesn't say he gets hammered, he only says "a couple of drinks".
  
  however, he says he hasn't felt this way since yesterday, insinuating he's an alcoholic.
  
  I think he loses his best friend, but finds a replacement at the end: "i may have found my best friend" The replacement being alcohol.
  
  I do think he began an intimate relationship with his best friend though, and it failed.

  General Comment:I think in the beginning he is trying to break free from the alcohol (which is his best friend) and he took his chances to stop drinking. " i wonder, like sprinting on a frozen pond i took my chances" Then he begins to "sink and fade" and realizes there is "nothing [he] would trade to feel this way". In the end, he finally gives in and finds his best friend (alcohol) again and he is just running around in circles in the cycle.

  General Comment:I agree with the alcoholism interpretation. It's rather direct. However, Id like to point out that this song switches from past tense to present. The verses are present- as if the narrator is reflecting back on how it felt. The chorus may be stating how he finally got through the stage in his life, because he may have lost his best friends, but hasn't.

  General Comment:It is about an alchoholic who drinks so much that he lost all his friends. If you listen carefully, the word "friend" is pronounced plurally in the song. ie. "friends".
