So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

Hey people! A new day is dawning up here in Canada.We've just elected a new, young, progressive prime minister. Justin James Trudeau, age 43, married with one child. HE IS the scion and first son of our legendary prime minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau, the revolutionary "hippie" (hard-left) prime minister for 19 years all the way through the Sixties and Seventies. ( a record ) He was hip. Trudeau peˆre (elder) wore sandals in parliament ( Good Heavens! Get the smelling salts!), took to hippie style living, thumbed his nose at the Establishment ( U.S. president Tricky Dick Nixon called him a queer and a commie!) The feeling was mutual. The elder Trudeau was independently wealthy, and had never worked a day in his entire life until his sudden elevation to the top job in Canada! Trudeau gave safe haven to American draft dodgers during the war in Vietnam. His greatest legacy is our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, a Supreme Law that protects citizens from wrongful interference by police or government - among a host of other groovy things. Trudeau hosted John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the prime minister's office on Parliament Hill in Ottawa in 1969.. They came away calling Trudeau "one of the beautiful people."
NOW….Trudeau fils (younger) under the Liberal Party banner has swept the country, winning a massive majority in Parliament. Trudeau used a phrase during his campaign, "SUNNY WAYS" which reminded me of "GET TOGETHER." The two couplets inspire the same sentiment. "Let's everybody get together in the sun and find a new way'"
On the front burners of his ministry: 1) legalize marijuana 2) get out of bombing Syria, instead work with Syrian army to arm and train them. 3.) Take in as many Syrian refugees as possible, as quickly as possible. 4.) TAX the ONE PER CENT to the max. Share the wealth.

@quietes <br /> The 'hippie' Trudeau 'thumbed his nose at authority' and yet became the leader of Canada. That seems a contradiction to me, regardless of his 'mystical' attitude. In 2023 we now know Canada is fairly far from the nirvana you envisaged. But then, not one single nation will attain such lofty ideals while we remain hunched under our economic dictates of the dollar. But you keep dreaming
