It's the cruelest joke to play
I'm so high I run in place
Only a line we separate
So

[Chorus]
I keep on playing our favorite song
I turn it up while you're gone
It's all I've got when you're in my head
When you're in my head, so I need it

You're the only thing I've got
I can't seem to get enough
We collide for one embrace
So

[Chorus x4]

I need it
I need it
I need it now

My Interpretation:I heard this music for the first time in Need for Speed: Underground 2, it took me 8 years to understand the meaning of this music.

"It's the cruelest joke to play
I'm so high, I run in place
Only a line, we separate, so..."

This means he started to have a mental breakdown since his girlfriend broke up with him, and the "Line they separated" mean they have gone to separate ways.

    [Chorus]
"I keep on playing our favorite song
I turn it up while you're gone
It's all I've got when you're in my head
And you're in my head so I need it"

The man puts the song which best represented the couple, and he turned the volume higher when she had gone and she means a very important thing to him and he needs her.

"You're the only thing I've got
That I can't seem to get enough
We collide for one embrace, so..."

She was the only thing he had in his bad days and he wants to hug her to feel better.

    [Chorus 2x]

    "Hurry up and wait forever
Hurry up and wait for forever"

It means that he believes he will not have a new chance to see her again.

    [Chorus 2x]

    "I need it
    I need it
    I need it
    Now"

Even with all the things happening above, he still wants her and now.

The real reason i could understand this music is because i am in a very similar situation.

My Interpretation:My interpretation is that the song is about being messed up on some kind of stimulant, running out and having to wait until a friend goes to get more.

"It's the cruelest joke to play
I'm so high, I run in place
Only a line, we separate, so..."
*- The cruelest joke to play is to make a drug-buy run on someone who is already loaded and waiting for the next bump. When they are partying with their friends and down the last little bit of shit, separating it so everyone can have some is the polite thing to do... especially if someone else is going to get it.

    Chorus:
"I keep on playin our favorite song
I turn it up while you're gone
It's all I got when you're in my head And you're in my head so I need it"
*- If anyone has ever been high on powder, you know there is always one dick who keeps wanting to hear the same song... for some it's "Freebird" for others it is "Enya's greatest hits", either way, when someone is high as a giraffe's ass and waiting on their next fix, they do whatever they can to keep their mind on something else during the wait.

"You're the only thing I've got,
That I can't seem to get enough
We collide for one embrace, so..."
*- Pretty self-explanatory when you think about the song in the context of an jonesing addict.

    Chorus

    "Hurry up & wait forever
Hurry up & wait for forever "
*- that is exactly what waiting for a next fix can be like.

General Comment:Josh says he never did hard drugs but smokes and grog, so while were all here thinking he uses relationships as a metaphor for drugs, I reckon the other way around.
BTW He ACTUALLY said "up next, a song about fucking" before Did it Again.

General Comment:From reading the quotes is easy to say that "Love is a drug". If your either a lover or addict this song still applies however you interpret.

General Comment:I think i remember seeing an interview with Josh Once where he said he didn't do any drugs at all (except smoking & drinking), he seems like a ladie's man, so my bet is that this song is actually a standard love song, like it or not. He said in another interwiev something like "perfect rock has to be heavy enough for the guys and sweet enough for the girls" so i wouldn't really be suprised. Great song anyway.
