Lyrics for Intervention as interpreted by newkicks

Intervention Lyrics
The king's taken back the throne,
The useless seed is sown,
When they say they're cutting off the phone,
I tell them you're not home.

No place to hide,
You were fighting as a soldier on their side,
You're still a soldier in your mind,
Though nothing's on the line.

You say it's money that we need,
As if we were only mouths to feed,
I know no matter what you say
There are some debts you'll never pay.

Working for the church
While your family dies.
You take what they give you
And you keep it inside.
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home.

Hear the solider groan, "We'll go at it alone"

I can taste the fear.
Lift me up and take me out of here,
Don't want to fight, don't want to die,
Just want to hear you cry.

Who's going to throw the very first stone?
Oh! Who's going to reset the bone?
Walking with your head in a sling
Want to hear the soldier sing.

Working for the Church
While my family dies,
Your little baby sister's
Going to lose her mind,
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home

Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone"

I can taste your fear,
It's going to lift you up and take you out of here,
And the bone shall never heal,
I care not if you kneel.

We can't find you now,
But they're going to get their money back somehow,
And when you finally disappear
We'll just say you were never here.

Been working for the church
While your life falls apart,
Singing hallelujah with the fear in your heart,
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home.

Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone"
Hear the soldier groan, "We'll go at it alone"

talk about the lyrics. please.

i think this song is about death way people approach it. the soldiers cries at the prospect of death. people approach "fading" with fear.

...and when something like "death" has so much fear attached to it why do some people approach life with such disregard, such as those that have succumbed to an addiction.

I'm pretty sure the starting is

"King is taking back the throne
the people they all groan"

As for the meaning of the song, it definitely can be considered an anti bush song. I'm pretty sure
little sister=Canada.

I agree that this is more a political, anti-Bush, song. I think "Working for the church while your family dies" is about how Bush keep on insisting he's a "good christian" while sending his people (= his family) into death.

It's really a great song by an amazing band!

I can deffinetlly see the idea of the song being anti bush. When I first heard it tho what came to mind was the idea of a christian with a non christian family. The idea that he is a christian and will have eternall life and he does not try to help his family.
After looking at the other ideas as to what this song means i dont think mine is correct but regardless of this i thought i would post it, after all its what a song means to each individual for people will get different things.
take care all.

and for the lyrics, agreed, with lines like Working for the church while your family dies, clearly an antiwar song

Going along the lines of it being a protest song, it also kinda reminds of the song "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan... the whole feel of the song reminds me of it for some reason.

I'm having a hard time getting anything out of this song, but I did try and get the actual lyrics. But, I also had a hard time with that. Oh well.

The king’s taken back the thrown
The useless seed is sewn
Then they say they’re cuttin’ off the phone,
Well tell ‘um we’re not home

No place to hide
You’re fightin’ as a solider on their side
You’re still a soldier in your minds
But nothin’s on the line

Say it’s money that we need
As if there were only mouths to feed
And knowin’ no matter what you say
There’s some debts you’ll never pay

Workin’ for the church while you family dies
They take what they give you and they keep it inside
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home

Hear the soldier groan
Or go at it alone

I can taste the fear
Lift me up and take me outta here
Don’t wanna fight, don’t wanna die
Just wanna hear you cry

Who’s gonna throw the very first stone?
Oh, who’s gonna reset the bone?
Walkin’ with your head in a sling
Wanna hear the soldier sing

Workin’ for the church while my family dies
Your little baby sister’s gonna lose her mind
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home

Hear the soldier groan
We’ll go at it alone

I can taste you fear
It’s gonna lift you up and take you outta hear
And the bone shall never heal
And I cannot make you kneel

We can’t find you now
But they’re gonna get their money back somehow
And when you finally disappear
Will they say you were never hear?

You’re workin’ for the church while your life falls apart
Singin’ “Hallelujah” with the fear in your heart
Every spark of friendship and love
Will die without a home

Hear the soldier groan
We’ll go at it alone

Hear the soldier groan
We’ll go at it alone

The first time it sounds like "Or go at it alone" and all the other times it sounds like "We'll go at it alone."

There are 2 different lyrics written for this song. This is the older unreleased version of Interention. The new one with the organs is different.

The soldier's woe or the sound he makes as he dies (Hear the soldier groan) as the US embarks upon the unilateral use of force (We'll go at it alone)

I think this song is about religion. It's about being a soldier in the army of the Lord. God asks everything from you. It's about turning to atheism.

Hear the soldier groan, we'll go it all alone.

We'll go without God. They say that hell is the absence of God. I've heard people argue about the need for God because it's a lonely world without him.

i agree with 'justus' its obviously about religion, and perhaps about how war effects faith.

What about the lyric 'they say its money that we need, as if we're only mouths to feed'... It confuses me.

I have a feeling the entire new album may be about religion, it's called neon bible, the addition of a pipe organ, they recorded part of the album in a church as well, not to mention the shows they are going to do in churches. It all has a very religion feel to it, does anyone agree with me?

At first I thought it was an antiwar song. Especially the taking back the throne part (two terms, anyone?), but after comparing it with the original lyrics I'm not so sure. The original lyrics make it seem much more metaphorical, and the soldier references in it are definitely not literal. I guess their intentions for this version could be completely different, but I'm not sure. Either way its awesome. Btw, they are playing at my high school this friday. I swear it. I go to Richard Parry's old high school, Canterbury, and I guess he convinced the band to join him in a high reunion concert. I am going insane with excitement!!
