Lyrics for Talk as interpreted by delial

Talk Lyrics
oh, brother I can’t get through
I’ve been trying hard to meet you
‘cause I don’t know what to do
oh, brother I can’t believe it’s true
I’m so scared about the future
and I want to talk to you
oh, I want to talk to you

you can take a picture of something you see
in the future, where will I be?
you can climb a ladder up to the sun
or a write a song nobody has sung
or do something that’s never been done

are you lost or incomplete?
do you feel like a puzzle?
you can’t find your missing piece?
tell me, how do you feel?
well, I feel like they’re talking in a language I don’t speak
and they’re talking it to me

so you take a picture of something you see
in the future, where will I be?
you can climb a ladder up to the sun
or a write a song nobody has sung
or do something that’s never been done
do something that’s never been done

so you don’t know where you’re going
and you want to talk?
and you feel like you’re going where you’ve been before?
you tell anyone who’ll listen, but you feel ignored?
nothing’s really making any sense at all?

let’s talk
let’s talk
let’s talk
let’s talk

I think the lyrics are uncannily poignant in the current circumstances of terrorism, fear and uncertainty ("I'm so scared about the future and I wanna talk to you"). From the points of view both of disenchanted confused youths turning to extremism ("lost and incomplete", "feel ignored"), as well as the rest of us wondering why ("...brother I can't believe it's true", "talking in a language I don't speak), the song is about a breakdown in communication. We need to talk. Let's talk.

ok guys, i think we should take this a little less literal.
Here's my thoughts.
The song is start's off saying 'Oh BROTHER i cant get through' who's Brother? A member of the Black comunity maybe? The song also mentions 'or write a song nobody has sung' which doesnt happen often in rap (:p) . Also It's actually not an attack if you take this view (so off your high horse people!) It's actually more like a song of empathy. Asking for some kind of conection in musical terms.
You see, this song is about 'Talk' which, lets face it, is what rap is about. I think the writter of this song feels disconnected with rap and finds it hard to apreciate the "art" of it.
It's a theory only by the way.
But it does seem to strike a cord with me, 'Nothing's really making any sense any more'

The brother is x's brother. In the story, z, playing her dad, showed up and talked incessantly until she said, look! I don't CARE where you came from! You do NOT know this guy! He laughed and said, of course I do. He's playing your brother.
And she didn't know what to do because it WAS a tall order. And yes, she was scared. Still is. But she and z started talking even though z would only talk through her. And it is something that's never been done. And her brother is her missing puzzle piece, her balance, her heart part, her study partner, and what they are talking through her is not necessarily what anyone was hearing before. And she did tell anyone who would listen but everyone ignored her. There are reasons for all of this but in truth many things don't make sense. Still the talk went on and on and on and on and it sill is--different frequency.
Sounds like piffle to me.
Really? Then it probably is.

This song was written for me! My brother (who I idolised when I was younger) died some years ago, and I have spent my time since wondering what the future holds for me without him and I have looked up and asked him hoping he would answer. He is my missing piece of the jigsaw. Although I have talked to many people about it, nobody understands exactly.

I don't think I have ever been touched so much by the lyrics of one song ..................

Shadowsoal2000: I'm an admin, so I usually restrain myself, but, that has got to be one of the most creative, yet most completely retarded comments ever.

Sorry, I tried to be nice about it, but I just couldn't sum it up any better than that.

Anyways, this song is amazing and has an asskicking solo......

as for the U2 comparisons......

U2 and coldplay are common only in the ability to captivate audiences with music...... they both kick major ass...

sounds to me like its talk about after death. kinda a dummed down version of sOAD's "question!"
if your brother is deceased, he can take a picture (afterlife) and show you wuts its all about. or they can play a song. anything; anything at all. just some kind of communication. cause you're just curious to no end and no matter how much you talk to ppl about the philosophy of it all, it never makes anymore sense

I agree with N0 CODE. Loose Tongue, you're not making any sense. Sorry to gang up on you, but it's true :-)

Anyways the guitar in the chorus sounds exactly like something that The Edge would do. Still a great song though.

Guys, we were in such a worse position this time two seasons ago. Granted, it was the affect of a new manager coming in who turned things round.

We know Dowie is passionate, we have the players, we just need to pray that Dowie bangs a few heads together and turns things round pretty quickly. Games in hand will still take us into the playoffs.

Get behind Dowie and the team. We cant be shite all season. Law of averages says it's impossible, unless you're Brighton or Millwall of course. It will turn around.

Everyone stand up, put your hand on your heart and repeat after me "Be loud, Be proud, BE PALACE!!"

fuck coldplay, they totally ripped off kraftwerk. this song is basically the riff from computer love with nothing added to it. instead of kraftwerks layers of keyboards and drum machines we get the douche lead singer's voice. buy computer world instead of this piece of shit

The video for this song creeps me out. It makes the song's on the surface appeal for communication ring hollow, like the insincere "I'll call you" you'd give to a person you never intend to call, but you say it to be polite or maybe to quickly end the interaction.

The dudes steal something from the robot (maybe his translation/communication knob? on/off switch?) then leave making call me gestures. The band tries to leave the robot behind but the big guy won't let them go; he follows then eats them.

The video makes me think the song is about trying to leave a relationship in the past, but one party won't quit. He's doggedly after that someone to talk to him even though that someone doesn't want to. The robot is a stalker and his harrassing attention feels like an attack of attempted assimilation.

let's talk...yeah right.

Hi all :)
I read all these posts and I don't want to sound like a bigot but they all kind of stink.

Setting things striaight, this is what I think: The reason why they used the opening rift from Kraftwerk, is that it is cold and distant sort of (bands name: cold"play") ,yet not so distant that it is not reachable, touchable and definatly on your mind when you listen to the song.
The lyrics on the other hand denote could be interpretted two ways the first is more likely the lead singers meaning the second is clouded by my own life experience.
When he mentions "Brother" he is appealing to his fellow man, as in oh brother I don't kow what to do. He is scared about the future because of his fellow man's distruction of the world and of his future.
When he says you can take a picture of something you see, his saying yeah sure you can have memories of what you are destroying, but in the future where I be to see these memories of what you are destroying.
"You can climb a ladder into the sun"- This means that you can climb the ladder of ambition and success, destroying everthing around you, and when you reach the top-guess what?- you BURN (in the sun).
He then gives the fictiotious man an option, you can do something that's never been done, write a song that's never been sung. In other words you can stop what your doing and look around and start to save what we have here and love your fellow man. And you can try to influence others to do the same (sing a song that's never been sung).

On another point the reason why they used the robot is to signify the lonliness that success and new technology brings sometimes and the detachement from other people. At the end the robot goes mad and destroys them, signifying that this loliness leads to destructive behaviour of oneself, other people and the environment.
Chris rubs this in when he speaks on behalf of this fictious man when he mentions a puzzle with a missing piece. As in you can have all the gold in the world but with out other people you have just put a puzzle together while forgetting an essential piece.

The song is a commentary on today's society and it's encourgement of destruction. The moral is: focus less on money and luxury and more on the nature around you: The people, the land and the wildlife.

Signing out.

I think that someone (lead singer?) couldn't find what they were looking for, and talking provides reassurance.
