    My Interpretation:Whoops didn't expect that to go as a subcomment.

    This is one of my most favourite songs ever!

    I think it needs to be said that it doesn't necessarily have to be a physically abusive relationship, it could be a metaphor, but it's likely I think because of two reasons. The red and white lights seem like ambulance lights to me, and also Anna Nalick's video for "In The Rough" portrays a story about an abusive relationship. Seems like a recurring theme.

    Everything else I think is just imagery to describe how she feels so alone. Words like "drowing", "wave", "castaway", "anchor" and "two-way radio" all are sea-related terms. I think she's trying to portray the picture where she's just floating in the middle of the ocean, miles away from anyone. She's all alone. Her voice is just a whisper on a two-way radio to illustrate how insignificant and distant she is. And as she's floating, on her own, she's calling to the stars, the aeroplane, the two-way radio, sending flares and shouting to the satellite to save her because she's drowning and can't cope anymore.

    General Comment:This is what I think: you know when you're looking a the stars and you're like wow that one's bright, but the u realize that its just an "aeroplane" or a satellite. Well, maybe she's wishing on a star and sees its a satellite, so she just "whispers on a two-way radio" knowing that its feeble

    General Comment:I agree with the relationship idea, but I think that it's communicated through a surface story that no one's mentioned yet. I actually don't see it quite as much now that I read the lyrics... so maybe I'm totally off. But listening to the song I never quite understood it - just caught glimpses of a very literal story. I think it could be about someone who's on a boat, lost in the Arctic. I mean not at the core of the song but just as an extended metaphor. She's using her two-way radio to call for help, just like someone calls for help when they're lost in a relationship, but so far no one's heard her.

    These lines are the best example of this idea:
    And so I send my feeble flare
    Through the silent arctic air
    Heading anywhere
    Until at last I've finally found
    A place to lay my anchor down

    I know that in one sense her feeble flare is a signal for help and that arctic air might mean the atmosphere of the relationship and/or her life is cold, but this could have a basic literal meaning too. I don't know, maybe this was totally unintentional, but this is the image I've always gotten from this song.

    General Comment:This is one of my favorite songs, lyrically. Obviously, its about a relationship gone bad, perhaps even abusive. And, like any shipwrecked somebody, she wants be saved from that relationship. I like the "lonely song of freedom rings in hope of someone listening" part. Does anyone know what that means?

    General Comment:well, i think there is a much more easier explanation, satelites are flashing red and white... :P
    anyway, this is my explanation:
    She wishes to be free (maybe singel?) she is wishing on an airplane, so she wants to get away. she also says that there is a lonely song of freedom and she hopes that someone listens (so she want to be free and she is singing and whispering on a radio that she want to be free and she is hopping for someone to hear here). so maybe she is in a boring relationship: "I'm better nowhere bound
    Than drowning on your solid ground". and this refers to: "Heaven, help me I'm drowning and I can't save me Send some salvation To keep me alive".
    so she is very bored and want to be safed from that.

    General Comment:hmm...maybe the red and white lights signify ambulence lights...aren't they red and white?

    Personally, I really love this song. The vocals and harmony are great. It's very catchy even though it does have a sad tone.

    General Comment:coastal bird...I got the same impression as you...but then again, I just got dumped and feel that way sooo....I dunno if it's my mind doing that or whatever....but then again, isn't that the point of a song? The artists writes a song with their own meaning but it's open for the listener to fit it into their own life? *shrugs*
