His old man was a rebel yeller.
Bad boy to the bone he'd say,
"Can't trust a colored feller"
And he'd judge 'em by the tone of their skin.
And he was raised to think like his dad,
Narrow mind, full of hate,
On the road to nowhere fast,
Until the grace of god got in the way,
Then he saw the light and hit his knees and cried and said a prayer,
And rose up a brand new man, and left the old one right there.
(Chorus)
Here's to the strong,
Thanks to the brave,
Don't give up hope,
Some people change.
Against all odds,
Against the grain,
Love finds a way,
Some people change.
She was born with her mothers habit,
Guess you could say it's in her blood,
She hates it that she's gotta have it,
She fills her glass up.
And she'd love to kill that bottle,
But all she could think about is a,
A better life, a second chance,
And everyone she's lettin' down.
She throws that bottle down.
(Chorus)
Thank god for those who make it.
Let them be the love.
Some people change.
(Chorus)

"red is my favorite color" "yuck! red sucks! blue is better!" --This will get us nowhere. Thank goodness we are all different human beings, so we all express ourselves differently, therefore just agree to disagree,:) And can all find different meanings in a song, hence this site. :D
If "some people change" is a great truth in life (it is), then so is "people like what they like". And it's ok.
I adore this song--one of my all-time favorites I never tire of, shear brilliance.
It had meant differnt things to me at differnt times, but always hope.
Hope when I see someone being unfair/unkind, even to me, not to hate back, but see who they could be someday, or hope for myself when it feels like everything I've done has gone wrong, like now.
Someday even I could change.
rocker's comment inspired me, thanks. I wish when I was down, I had had a friend like you.
"Thank God for those who make it
Let them be the light
Some people change"
This part is a beautiful reminder to use your strength and courage to pull others up, not put them down or see yourself as superior.
