Lyrics for Metal Now as interpreted by KK61034

Metal Now Lyrics
I wanna rob
you of your game face
so i can cower beneith yours
cuz i'm a freak from the same place
let suicide make a meal for birds
into your heart
i've got the daggar
the metaphor will suffice for now
get in my bed
i wanna kill you
show you mine if you show me how

i get angry
when you're around
when you're around
i get nasty
when you're around
when you're around

she slit
her wrists
for attention
in 1996
she slit
her wrists
listening to live through this

so here i am
will you deny me
metal now
but i've always been

lets make a toast
lets do the oil spill
let the seagulls pick out the sins

i want it now
i want the danger
give me streanth and i'll give you wings

i get angry
when you're around
when you're around
i get nasty
when you're around
when you're around

low

i get angry
when you're around
when you're around
i get nasty
when you're around
when you're around

i get angry
when you're around
when you're around
i get nasty
when you're around
when you're around

As much as I hate to say it, this song makes little to no sense to me. I love this song so much, but I just can't make much sense of it? All in all it seems like its about being in a relationship with someone that is emotionally unstable, as in they cut, talk about suicide, hurt themself, and it makes you so mad seeing them make that horrible choice?

I think this song is about...angry sex. About almost hating someone, but the sex is still good. About having trouble in a relationship, but you know you're meant for each other. "I'm a freak, from the same place..." = It's hard to be with someone when you feel like you're looking in a mirror, and the other person reminds you of how you yourself are.

"Let suicide make a meal for birds" = someone kills themselves and then the birds eat the remains.

Apparently the girl in the relationship has already tried to kill herself...in 1996. Perhaps suicidal thoughts are the bond between them? "Listening to live through this..." music helps them through tough times?

I still don't really get "Metal now, but I've always been..." Does he mean "Metal" as in the music genre? A "metal" sort of attitude towards life? Is he cold like metal?

this is my interpretation of it.

i think that there is a couple, maybe like romeo and juliet. they aren't supposed to like each other, but they do and the girl does a better job of hiding it. i think that they're both in the same state of mind and can't stand it, but they don't want to end their lives and become something so insignificant.

it's an angry relationship. they fight when in the open, and they use words like daggers to make it seem like they aren't into each other (this would be the metaphor). i agree that they do enjoy sex, but i wouldn't think it's angry...just hidden, and apparently max wants to do it hard as to "kill" her. he will show his "male parts" (haha) if she shows him how to have sex. this is such a weird interpretation.

i think that max has to pretend to be angry and nasty when he is around her.

then i think it changes when the girl kills herself. i think that maybe the girl wanted their relationship to be more open, perhaps? i think this really changes max into a more depressed person.

then he is here, and i think he is ready to commit suicide, and does not want the suicide to "deny him." he is now cold on the inside, but he has always been; and i guess he feels guilty that he wasn't more warm to this girl.

i think that the "lets make a toast, lets do the oil spill, let the seagulls pick out the sins" just refers to death in general. many things die in oil spills, and the use of "but suicide makes a meal for birds" in the beginning kind of implies that he's going to commit suicide because he's screwed up so many times before, and now he just wants life to be over.

he wants to die now and wants the danger of knowing that his last moments are near. if he gets the courage to die, maybe they can be together again.

then i think he's just reminiscing at the end, and wishing that he hadn't been so angry, nasty and cold to the girl while she was sill alive.

this is probably a completely wrong interpretation, but it's what i got from the song. max bemis is genius for being able to write about major things like death and sex so metaphorically.

agreeing with rocksolidgurl. to me this is about angry sex, and pretty much an attraction with someone you absoulutly love to hate.
i'm guessing that "cuz i'm a freak from the same place let suicide make a meal for birds" is maybe the same statement like i'm a freak from hell? idk 'cause dont you go to hell if you commit suicide? either way one of my favories.

the beginning lyrics are actually:
"I wanna rob
you of your game face
so I can cower beneath your words"

i think you are all wrong.

i think this song is about a guy who is dating a girl who cuts. and he gets angry because he knows that in a way he is having to take care of her. i don't think she tried to commit suicide because he says she did it for attention, and in a way he sort of spites her for it, yet loves her and therefore sticks around. he loves her even with her imperfections, which makes him mad at he doesn't do what it easier and leave her rather than stick around.

just my opinion though...

First of all, Live Through This is an album by Hole and that explained a lot of the song to me. The particular verse about the wrists in 1996, etc is basically him making fun of the album (because it was depressing), and the part about slitting wrists for attention is conveying that the girl slit her wrists to get recognized as being a "real" fan of the music when in truth, she's doing it for attention. Does that make sense?

Basically, it's about how people now are saying that they're a certain genre, but he's making fun of it because Max sees genres as ridiculous titles. The title, and the lyric "Metal now, but I've always been" are basically going along with the music (it has a kind of "metal" sound) as well as the various screams throughout the song.

In general, he's simply saying: fuck labels.

"metal" is referring to what the girl uses to hurt herself, "metal now but i've always been" is referring to how he is just another way the girl hurts herself

suicide make a meal for birds - someone asked about this. i interpreted it as kind of a figure of speech. meal for birds, who are tiny little nothing creatures, meaning the issue of suicide is something birds can take in his world, but in our world it's this huge, horrible issue. just saying he's more bad ass lol and suicide in his world is pussy shit. i dont know. (can i curse on here?)

Rielle's statement makes the most sence to me. Great job on that by the way!
But I think that it's not that he doesn't like genre titles, it's that he hates the whole "You're not metal if you don't have long hair." kinda thing. I'm right there with him.

-->let suicide make a meal for birds.
Killing ones self somewhere no one would find

--> into your heart, i've got the daggar.
Juliet ends her own life by piercing her chest with Romeos dagger

--> the metaphor will suffice for now.
Indicating that the previous statement is a metaphor and that he isn't going to kill her but talk of a suicide pact may have come up

Later in the song....

--> lets make a toast, lets do the oil spill, let the seagulls pick out the sins.
Saying that they should make the pact, Organic oils are produced through organic processes, I.E bodies just left there, the reference to seagulls picking out sins makes me think that these people are not religious so contrary to some faiths, suicide will not condemn them to hell.

"get in my bed, i want to kill you" how much more obvious angry sex does it get?
as for "metal now" i'm a little confused... aside from obvious things it could be a razor? just a guess.

what they mean by the expression "let suicide make a meal for birds" is that you can offten see crows and other birds eating away at dead corcuses. so by that they mean, after they commit suicide they're bodys are now food for the bird. If taht makes sense.

This was always my favorite song off of this CD but I never understood until one day I listened to it after developing a relationship most perfectly described by the lyrics and I think I may have figured out the meaning.

Its masochistic. I want him and yet he antagonizes me completely. He and I (mostly him though) are sadomasochistic. We love to get rough with each other. In fact the only reason we really got together was because he loved to irritate me just so I would hit him and I loved it all too.

This song isn't about wanting to die, its about loving risk, pain and danger. Loving hating each other.

I think this song is about a girl that he knew who was a stereotypical emo.
'She slit her wrists for attention in 1996'
She was a 'poser' emo, who did what she did for attention, rather than because she was tortured emotionally. Max notices this and challenges her to actually do something, like a suicide pact with him. He tells her that he can help her die if that is what she wants. Because she was just a 'poser' emo, she obviously refuses, hence
'i get angry
when you're around
when you're around
i get nasty
when you're around
when you're around'

I don't know if that's right, but it makes a lot of sense to me.
Might not be applicable for the time that max wrote it, but it sure as hell is applicable now.
