Lyrics for A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little ... as interpreted by BrandNew1208

A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little ... Lyrics
I confess, I messed up
Dropping "I'm sorry"s like you're still around
And I know you dressed up
Hey, kid, you'll never live this down

And you're just the girl
All the boys wanna dance with
And I'm just the boy
Who's had too many chances

I'm sleeping on your folk's
Porch again, dreaming
She said, she said, she said
"Why don't you just drop dead?"

I don't blame you for being you
But you can't blame me for hating it
So say, "What are you waiting for?
Kiss her, kiss her"
I set my clocks early
'Cause I know I'm always late

Write me off, give up on me
'Cause, darling, what do you expect?
I'm just off, a lost cause
A long shot
Don't even take this bet

You can make all the moves
You can aim all the spotlights
Get all the sighs and the moans just right

I'm sleeping on your folk's
Porch again, dreaming
She said, she said, she said
"Why don't you just drop dead?"

I don't blame you for being you
But you can't blame me for hating it
So say, "What are you waiting for?
Kiss her, kiss her"
I set my clocks early
'Cause I know I'm always late

(Always on, always on)
You said you'd keep me honest
(Always on, always on)
But I won't call you on it
(Always on, always on)

I don't blame you for being you
But you can't blame me for hating it
So say, "What are you waiting for?
Kiss her, kiss her"
I set my clocks early
'Cause I know I'm always late
I set my clocks early
'Cause I know I'm always late

Well, this song actually reminds me of 'Sixteen Candles'. Where there's the guy who likes the girl that doesn't like him back. But yeah, also, am I the only one who thinks when he says "dropping 'I'm sorrys' like you're still around" it sounds kinda like "drop it, I'm sorry, like you're still around"? I know he's not, but, think about it.

PunkWillNeverDie, I totally agree. There's definately guitar chords that remind of Sk8r Boi.

I love this song and think it's a brilliant third single for Fall Out Boy. I've listened to it about four hundred million times and I only got the C.D. on Friday (and it's Sunday now for me).

The whole "Kiss her, kiss her", in the music video, seems to be related to vampires kissing their victims to turn them into vampires. But that's just the music video.

"I don't blame you for being you, but you can't blame me for hating it"

This music video is motherfucking weird, the music video is about fucking vampire hunters! That doesnt apply to the song at all. But this song is rly good along with "Dance, Dance"

ok i dont think a lot of u are gonna agree w/this but oh well.

i think the music video TOTALLY relates 2 the song, it should actually help u understand the song better. the song is about growing up and not wanting 2. it just SEEMS like pete is talking to a girl but he's really addressing himself. he REALLY hates himself.

ok, the video. vampires suck blood right? and as far as i kno blood=life. that means theyre sucking the life, even youth out of ppl. pete is one of them but he doesnt want 2 be b/c he hates the idea of that, so thats y he's a hunter. hence, "i dont blame u for being u, but you cant blame me for hating it" (hes talking to himself). the ppl dressed up really nice represent the adults that pete doesnt want 2 become & the girl they want pete to "kiss" may symbolize childhood or youth since they want pete 2 bite her.

the whole vampire thing basically means that pete isnt a child even though he wants 2 be. but he's not an adult, so they dont like him. hes a vampire, someone who has kinda grown up..just a little (possibly a teenager?). but he doesnt want 2 be that, and there is nothing he can do so he's dedicated his life 2 hunting vampire, b/c at the begining of the video he says "u call urselfs hunters" or somethin like that.

when pete is in the cop car in the end it shows adults always win b/c ppl assume teenagers r up 2 trouble. the girl is getting in a cop car too, do ppl ever believe children? no.

one more thing. i saw FOB in concert. right b4 this song they talked about not wanting 2 grow up. so it most likely relates to that. & i dont think they would put somethin that random in a video, it all means somethin.

well thats what i think. my friends thought i was crazy, hopefully u all dont. im in love with this video. let me know what u think!

In an interview, pete said this song is about making-out.
And, that there's one girl you wanna marry, and the other you just wanna take home and turn off the lights with.
the title is in reference to Molly Conolly and some other chick. I forget.

PunkWillNeverDie, you have it all wrong. Simple Plans lyrics are nothing like this. They can't compare to Fall Out Boy's writing ability, with the metaphors, similies, and personification. FOB is way more advanced lyrically than a lot of bands.

i totally agree with XBlackOverPinkX Simple Plan is not even close to Fall Out Boy. FOB is way more personal and is more advanced in writing their music.

deCorAteDemergency, you brilliantly tied up the music video and song together. That's so cool, I didn't see all those connections. But I've just got something to point out.
The cops in the cop car are vampires, so I think it's representing about how even the police are corrupted by vampires the infestion is so out of hand, not how adults are always misbelieving teenagers. If you look closely they've got fangs. My guess is that they're on the vampire that turned Pete into a vampire's side.

I just like the video...Pete...as a vampire? *drools*

(Oh and by the way, to somebody way back on the first page, John Cusack is NOT in Sixteen Candles)

I'm gonna disagree with the analysis of the video. Vampires are usually metaphors for staying young forever, which is the total opposite of aging/growing up. I doubt the video has anything to do with the lyrics. Rather, it was probably just a fun idea that the band members wanted to play out on screen. It seemed reminiscent to me of the late 80's monster hunter movies i.e. The Lost Boys. It's a really fun video, and I bet it was a blast to make for the band.

Desaparecida, John Cusack IS in Sixteen Candles. He plays one of Farmer Ted's friends. How about checking your facts before shooting someone down?

I confess, I'm just messed up,
(he knows hes wrong)
dropping "I'm sorrys” like you're still around
(i think it means hes trying to apologige but she wont listen to him)
And I know you dressed up
(big deal)
Hey kid you'll never live this down
(she'll never forgive him)

And you're just the girl all the boys want to dance with
And I'm just the boy who's had too many chances
(shes who everyone wants and hes screwed it up to many times)

I'm sleeping on your folk's porch again, dreaming
She said, she said, she said, "Why don't you just drop dead?" (hes not gonna give up but shes not gonna give in)

I don't blame you for being you
But you can't blame me for hating it
(he knows hes wrong and shouldnt be given a chance but he wants another one)
So say, "what are you waiting for?
Kiss her, kiss her"
(just go for it and put yourself out there
I set my clocks early 'cause I know I'm always late
(being late is a metaphor for whatever she got mad at him for and setting his clocks early is making sure he never does it again like a precausion)

Write me off, give up on me
'cause darling what did you expect?
I'm just off a lost cause
a long shot, don't even take this bet
(dont give me another chance cause chances are hell do it again)

You can make all the moves, you can aim all the spotlights
(watch me and see the things i do)
Get all the sighs and the moans just right

I'm sleeping on your folk's porch again, dreaming
She said, she said, she said, "Why don't you just drop dead?"

I don't blame you for being you
But you can't blame me for hating it
So say, "what are you waiting for?
Kiss her, kiss her"
I set my clocks early 'cause I know I'm always late

I'm just always on
You said you'd keep me honest
(you’re always on)
But I won't call you on it

I'm just always on
You said you'd keep me honest
(you’re always on)
But I won't call you on it

I don't blame you for being you
But you can't blame me for hating it
So say, "what are you waiting for?
Kiss her, kiss her"
I set my clocks early 'cause I know I'm always late
I set my clocks early 'cause I know I'm always late
