Lyrics for Homeward as interpreted by interface2x

Homeward Lyrics
The hallowed lands so far behind
As fleeting dreams still linger
Like distant voices through the rain
Like grains of sand cast from my hands

I never thought I'd go this far
Without a star to cross the seas
So far from shores I'd left behind
Still far from shores I've yet to reach

I try to find the strength I need
To calm the doubts in my belief
With the will, I know my heart won't break

And if I have strength, then I've belief
If I have love, my heart still beats
Here under stars
Far from home

The picture fades, the light recedes
The sound is lost in whispers
My recollections once clear and pure
Now distant lights that dim with time

I never thought I'd go this far
Without a star to cross the seas
So far from shores I'd left behind
Still far from shores I've yet to reach

This is one of the most gorgeous songs I've heard from VNV Nation.

Very clubby, but you can't help but feel like you're drifting on a ship at sea gazing up at a golconda of stars, yet not knowing which one to follow. But those who wander are not necessarily lost...

It makes me feel insignificant and yet significant at the same time.

I'd like to be set out to sea ;)

I really like this song - it has a very 'visual' quality to the lyrics, like so many of VNV Nation's lyrics do.

It can well be interpreted as being at sea - I can't help but think it's also about life in general. We have no 'stars' to guide us through life, no chart to indicate where we are to go.. and for many of us, we're far from parts of life that we may have left behind, but far from our destinations as well. Be strong and with your will you'll get there some day.

Another thought to add to the above, the title is 'Homeward' - as if the journey is back to where you belong.

Maybe going along with the Darkangel theme.. he never thought it would go that far, that he would get to be so far away from home.. and though he is that far, he knows he carries that strength and light with him on his journey, and it will lead him to victory.

This song reminds me of leaving England. Seeing endless ocean, endless night out of the window of the plane for hours.

To me this song also means being stuck somewhere far from home. Having to stay there so long your memories of home begin fading, but holding on to knowing you will return home. Never thinking you'd be so far from home for so long.

Amazingly beautiful song, this.

Listening to this,I felt some mood like maybe if I live more than 1000 years ago being a warrior, sailing on a viking ship so far,in distant lands, led by stars, beyond the line where firmament touch the sea...Don't know where will I be...to fight the war,to win or to die...this travel-shall warrior return home(to his shores,to his family)...or die upon the bloody battlefield and reach the VALHALL-which is his TRUE HOME?
...Suddenly I felt something another:future not so distant...heavy ships going far...what is changed?just vikings are with machineguns now, their drakkars have a heavy diesel engines and missile launch gear-but ARYAN SPIRIT is still alive,Warspirit of JARL SONS.I believe in forthcoming Ragnarok and revival of New Aeon, the HEATHEN DAWN.
To sit in your quiet home surrounded by civilisation or to sail towards your destiny known to Skuld only-what will ye choose?what you call LIFE?

This song is hard for me to listen to. While it is one of VNV Nation's most beautiful songs...well to me it just brings to mind every mistake I've made in life...makes me wonder what I have to do to make it. To me it's got this sense of being lost, not knowing what to do or where to go. I honestly can't listen to it without breaking down.

I laugh at those who interpret VNV songs literally, word for word, as what is spoken or sung by Ronan. It shows a total lack of imagination and intuitive thought.

Great song.
