I'm making my escape, making my escape
I tell myself that everything's in shape
Everything's in shape, but me
How long can we stay, how long can we stay?
I tell myself that everything is great
Everything is great, well how am I doing?

I've got a great idea
I'm going to wait right here
I've got a great idea
I'm going to wait right here
While everything is adding
Up, up, up
Everything is adding
Up, up, up

Breaking both my hands, breaking both my hands
Telling me to 'take it like a man'
Take it like a man, I can't
I don't understand, I don't understand
Please repeat whatever you just said
Nothing's making sense, well how am I doing?

I've got a great idea
I'm going to wait right here
I've got a great idea
I'm going to wait right here
While everything is adding
Up, up, up
Everything is adding
Up, up, up

They're breaking both my hands, they're breaking both my hands
They're telling me to 'take it like a man'
Take it like a man, well fuck that
I don't understand, said, I don't understand
So please repeat whatever you just said
'Cause nothing's making sense, well how am I doing?

I've got a great idea
I'm going to wait right here
I've got a great idea
I'm going to wait right here
While everything is adding
Up, up, up
While everything is adding
Up, up, up

General Comment:I dunno, but especially considering the video, I think this song's about somebody dealing with multiple personality disorder and the problems it causes, and him trying to break free from it...?

General Comment:This song is about suicide, the video pretty much says it all. He is trying to escape from his problems so topping himself is the only way out. It's sad but highly relatable.

My Interpretation:Great song, I love it just to play in the background, even if the lyrics do feel a little repetitive.

To me, however, it just rings as a song about learned helplessness. Some poor guy's getting in over his head in something, most likely just that he let a lot of things pile up, ('Everything is adding up, up up'), so it's just easier to let it keep piling up. (I'm gonna wait right here) Half of it is just that he doesn't know how to solve it all.

I get the feeling that 'breaking both my hands' isn't supposed to be taken literally. It could simply be referring to a crippling feeling, rather than anything physical. Plus, the song never specified people. Could be the mess piling up that's figuratively breaking his hands, in other words, stress.

The 'great escape', as it's called, is therefore just that he's not making any attempt to solve the situation.

General Comment:Those other two guys seem like his thoughts, and both are different almost contradicting in personality. He almost seemed like he didn't know what part of himself he believed in, how he should have acted, so he got away from his thoughts and tried to rediscover himself.

On a heavier note I like parmesan cheese.

General Comment:favourite song from these guys, it's so good. I think it's got something to do with someone that has a problem with their personality maybe, split personality or something

something about them is holding them back and they want to get away from it and change it

anyway that's how I like to look at it, I feel like I can relate to it, = all the more I love this song

General Comment:I don't think the lyrics are actually about this, but they can be twisted to fit my current situation: I'm "making my escape" to university next year, "tell myself that everything's in shape" - I'll get the right grades to get in, but there are feelings of self-doubt. The chorus signifies teenage indecision while you're trying to sort out your life ["everything is adding up up up"]. The second verse could be about the huge amounts of stress ladled on me by my school...

As I said, that's almost certainly not the intended meaning, but that's what it means to me at the moment.

On another note... Keith is the most gorgeous man in the world, and WAS are the best live band I've ever seen. They're fantastic.
