I just can't believe that it's over.
We were chilling out on the sofa,
Digging how the guitar goes,
In a song that no one knows.
Did you lick that line yourself,
Or did the voodoo magic help?
Does everyone have a different take?
Do you seem real but I seem fake?
Does everyone get hypnotized by your fire?

So long, Jimmy, so long.
Though you only stayed a moment,
We all know that you're the one. Singing,
So long, Jimmy, so long.
Sure we're glad for the experience,
We miss you now you've gone.
We're just swimming in your soul 'cause,
We all wish we wrote this song.
Life goes on.

I'm just so relieved that it's over.
We were hanging out going nowhere,
Digging how the guitar goes,
In a song that no one knows.
Did you burn that bridge yourself,
Or did the voodoo magic help?
Does everyone have a different take?
Are you just cool and I'm just baked?
Does everyone get mesmerized by your fire?

So long, Jimmy, so long.
Though you only stayed a moment,
We all know that you're the one. Singing,
So long, Jimmy, so long.
Sure we're glad for the experience,
We miss you now you've gone.
We're just swimming in your soul 'cause,
We all wish we wrote this song.
Life goes on.

General Comment:Too many refrences to the guitar to be about Morrison - it has to be Hendrix - although I like them all! James, Jim, and Jimmy! Also could be about a buddy he used jam with - this song is about comming up with guitar rifs, melody and the such. Jim Morrison was awesome but he's not a musician like James or Jimmy.

General Comment:It's about a guy called Jimmy he served with in the army. The guy used to take his guitar everywhere, he used to strap it to the tank and stuff, and he taught James how to play.
Then the poor guy got blown up a couple of months before his tour was over.
So I think this song is like a tribute to him, but Jimmy wasn't the kinda guy to want a sad song written about him. Juding by the song, the guy was quite badass. Or maybe passionate.
    R.I.P Jimmy.

General Comment:This song was perfect for our leavers. Our form tutor was called Jimmy, and he took us over with only a few years to go until we left and he was the greatest form tutor ever, so our form made him a leaving video using the repeated guitar piece and the chorus which is totally perfect for him. We love him xx

General Comment:Thanks to the people who posted pretty conclusive evidence that the song was a tribute to both Morrison and Hendrix. The references, both in the lyrics and the music, are fun to tease out... Like the Hammond organ used throughout. And a big "fail" to everyone who wants to keep arguing that he was referring to only one or the other. Just follow the links and read.

What's really funny to me is that there's a sort of "Bee Gees" pop sound to it -- but that's not to say that was an intentional reference.

General Comment:This song isn't about Jimi Hendrix. You're misinterpretting "Voodoo Magic". It means they were high.

General Comment:I think, this song is about both Hendrix and Morrison.
I remember him corroborating this fact in an interview.
"Did you lick that line yourself? Or did the Voodoo magic help" is a direct reference to Hendrix. Knowing that Hendrix made a song called Voodoo Child, and another one called FIRE and I just noticed something interesting in this live version :
    youtube.com/…

Listen to the guitar solo from: 3:24 to 3:30
It's taken from Hendrix's solo in the song "All Along the Watchtower"
    Thanks.

I think that Blunt, in the interview, also argues that "Does everyone get mesmerized by your fire?" is a direct reference to Morrison.
    Thanks.

    General Comment:Here you go all:

"James: Um yeah it’s really a tribute to him [Jim Morrison] and Jimmy Hendrix. I wrote it with my friend Jimmy Hogarth and I get called Jimmy occasionally."
