There are children standing here
Arms outstretched and to the sky
Tears drying on their face
He has been here
Brothers lie in shallow graves
Fathers lost without a trace
A nation blind to their disgrace
Since he's been here

And I see no bravery
No bravery
In your eyes anymore only sadness
And I see no bravery
No bravery
In your eyes anymore only sadness
Only sadness

Houses burnt beyond repair
The smell of death is in the air
A woman weeping in despair says
He has been here
Tracer lighting up the sky
It's another family's turn to die
A child afraid to even cry out says
He has been here

And I see no bravery (no bravery)
No bravery (no bravery)
In your eyes anymore only sadness
And i see no bravery
No bravery
In your eyes anymore only sadness

There are children standing here
Arms outstretched and to the sky
But no one asks the question why
He has been here
Old men kneel to except their fate
Wives and daughters cut and raped
A generation drenched in hate says
he has been here

And I see no bravery
No bravery
In your eyes anymore only sadness
And I see no bravery
No bravery
In your eyes anymore

Anymore
Anymore
Anymore

And I see no bravery
No bravery
In your eyes anymore only sadness
And I see no bravery
No bravery
In your eyes anymore only sadness
Only sadness

Song Meaning:I agree it is about war in general-he references multiple wars I think- Africa-women and girls cut and raped speaks to the brutal circumcision and rapes. I can see reference to many different wars here. I guess the message is there is no bravery in War, only sadness. I think "He" is EVIL or in christianity- the DEVil .

My Interpretation:I really love this song. The emotion that you can hear in his voice during this song is something that you can see in only a few great artists. Such lyrics are also really heavy in their message, one which I (and anyone with common sense) believe to be about the horrors of war and it's suffering. As to the much debated question of who "He" is, I believe that it is a personification of War (as most say). As for the chorus itself, when he speaks of seeing no bravery in someone's eyes, I think he means soldiers. Being ex-military himself, he knows the affects of war on people, civilians or otherwise. Soldiers first going into war may have some fear about it, but their is also bravery. Bravery to go die for your nation and the good of others. But such Bravery can fade, and in the blood shed and devastation, it is replaced by a gaping hole of sadness for what is done. This is my take on this amazing song. Comment if you wish to discuss. God bless.

General Comment:I just read a detailed account of the Jamie Bulger story for psychology, kind of gave so much truth to this song.

General Comment:I really think this song is about Voldemort.

"Tracer lighting up the sky" = Dark Mark
Come on people. He's killing Muggles. "Another family's turn to die"? The Potter family, among others.

"He has been here." Voldemort leaving a trail of death and destruction in his search to destroy Harry Potter.

James Blunt is an underground Death Eater.

    And that's what's up.

General Comment:I believe the meaning of "he" is that it is James Blunt himself, as witness to these things personally; where once before he left for war and patriotism and bravery was forefront. Now as he was at once witness and perpetrator of war (evil), would he know only the sadness of it all. To me it is he, himself saying essentially, "He has been here" (witness). We are all God?

Song Meaning:It reminds me of Hitler, not that I'm a Nazi or anything but the lyrics almost describe it.

General Comment:Most of you have have written in apparently are not grasping the lyrics. "Arms stretched out into the sky", "another family's turn to die", "a Nation blind to their disgrace".
He is referring to Germany and Hitler. Every word leads to WWII. He wants us to understand what went on and not repeat it again. This was the most horrific time in world history, and you young people should really read about the horrors that the surrounding countries went through and not just the Jews and concentration camps. He destroyed a lot of lives, by bringing back slave labor to Germany, those people went through a lot too. Thousands of people were found in "shallow graves".
    Thank you for reading this.
