It's been a long day, living with this
It's been a long time since I felt so sick
I took a long walk straight back home
I could of walked back to San Francisco

I used to long for time alone
I used to long for a place of my own
And I'm losing faith in everything
I'm lost so lost, I'm lost at sea, you see

I used to long for broken bones
I used to long for a casket to call my own
I never had a problem facing fear
But I'm done, over and out, my dear

And oh, mercy me
God bless catastrophe
There's no way in hell
You'll ever live to see through this so

Drive yourself insane tonight
Its not that far away
And I just filled up your tank earlier today
Yeah

It's been a long day, living with this
It's been a long time since I felt so sick
I took a long walk straight back home
I could of walked back to Chicago

I used to long for time alone
I used to long for a place of my own
And I'm losing faith in everything
I'm lost, so lost, I'm fucked without you

Oh, mercy me
God bless catastrophe
There's no way in hell
We'll ever live to see through this so

Drive yourself insane tonight
It's not that far away
And I just filled up your tank earlier today
Yeah

So drive yourself insane tonight
It's not that far away
And I just filled up your tank earlier today
Yeah
Yeah

General Comment:To me it seems like it's about being in a relationship, and wanting to be independent of the other half. I get the impression that the narrator was doubting the relationship and his girlfriend suckerpunched him with the same thing. The two prechoruses (prechori?) seem to confirm this. Now the narrator is upset and having a hard time dealing with getting exactly what he wanted. The chorus is talking about a catastrophe that happened, and the girl was acting crazy, and he wrote her off at that point. But he's still hurt.

That or drugs / alcohol. A3 is notorious for switching those up. Lots of common ground, I guess.

General Comment:I think this song is about him devoting himself to a girl, and eventually for whatever reasons, they break up. "I used to long for a time alone
I used to long for a place of my own" is him saying that he always wanted to be alone, but now that he is all alone it's not what he thought it would be. "Drive yourself insane tonight
It's not that far away. And I just filled up your tank earlier today" I would say is about him calling the girl or whatever it is, just to make her miss him. He wants her to drive herself crazy over what she lost.
Basically he is lost as sea after one lifestyle for so long and the song is about wanting to go or going back home, running away from his many problems.

General Comment:If the Skiba quote is right, then I know what this song is about. I checked the lyrics to the jawbreaker song, and this song is about what happened to me recently. It's about a girl leaving him for someone else, and he's fucked up about it, but is moving on "done, over and out my dear". The god bless catastrophe, we'll never live to see through this is a way of saying that there's nothing to get out of the experience and that it's over between us. Drive yourself insane is a way of dismissing the other to fight with their guilt. Check the lyrics to "Bad scene, everyone's fault" and you might agree.

General Comment:This may sound crazy and complicated... but i believe this one is about feeling down because the singer is too happy to write any more depressing songs...
That's just how it sounds to me. ;-)

General Comment:Alkaline Trio is totally increible. I'm not sure what the meaning of the song is, it could be a lot of things. Butttt

    Could someone comfirm for me what exactly is being said here;;
"I never had a problem facing fear
But I'm done, over and out, my dear"

Is it but I'm done over and out?
Or is it but I'm done, over and done, my dear.
Or is it But I'm done, over and dumb, my dear.
---I thought for sure it was "over and done" but now I'm not so sure, someone challenged me and now it's driving me crazy.

General Comment:For me this is a song that I can't put a specific meaning behind but it has a huge meaning to me. And it's so personal to me, I can't listen to this song with someone else in the room.
