Lyrics for Dance, Dance as interpreted by AllStarMe

Dance, Dance Lyrics
She says she's no good
With words, but I'm worse
Barely stuttered out
A joke of a romantic
Or stuck to my tongue

Weighed down with words
Too overdramatic
Tonight it's "It can't get much worse"
Vs. "No one should ever feel like"

I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget
How your voice sounds
These words are all I have
So I'll write them
So you need them just to get by

Dance, dance
We're falling apart to halftime
Dance, dance
And these are the lives you'd love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me

You always fold just
Before you're found out
Drink up, it's last call, last resort
But only the first mistake

I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget
How your voice sounds
These words are all I have
So I'll write them
So you need them just to get by

Why don't you show me
A little bit of spine
You've been saving
For his mattress, love?

Dance, dance
We're falling apart to halftime
Dance, dance
And these are the lives you'd love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me

Why don't you show me
A little bit of spine
You've been saving for his mattress?
I only want sympathy
In the form of you
Crawling into bed with me

Dance, dance
We're falling apart to half time
Dance, dance
And these are the lives you'd love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
(Way they'd love)
Dance, this is the way they'd love
(Way they'd love)
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me

Dance, dance
Dance, dance
Dance, dance
Dance, dance

I'm ahuge fan of the bass line but I agree with the others, this song sounds totally different from the rest of their album. It is in his tone. I still don't know what the hell he's talking about though

I actually thought that the "I'm two quarters and a heart down" lyric was a Legend of Zelda reference.
But I'm just weird that way.

This song means none, it's just an excuse to go smashing on people in the dance floor when you're drunk up as hell.

How do you people call that? when everybody just crash on each other when there is a song which let that

I think that the band name fallout boy is a reference to the old fallout shelters from back during the cold war, because a lot of their songs have to do with the loss of love and the need to hide out from the radiation emmitted by broken hearts. The song, "dance dance" is about the singer wanting his heart to beat again because it stopped beating.....because of the radiation. keep dancing fallout boy.....we love you and know that you'll never make us emit any radiation.

My friend and I were talking, and we've come to the conclusion that it's about his experience having sex with a prositute.

"She says she's no good / with words but I'm worse" - As a prostitute, she handles these situations daily, but she's not good at it, and he's worse because he's never had this experience so he's not sure what to say either.

"A joke of a romantic" - It's like, they like, don't need to like, be romantic, because she's like, a prositute.

"Weighed down with words / too overdramatic" - He's making having sex with a prostitute out to be a bigger deal than it is. I can say from my own personal experience that having sex with a prostitute isn't exactly life-changing.

"Tonight it's 'it can't get much worse' / vs. 'no one should ever feel like'." - It can't get much worse in that he had to stoop so low to sleep with a prositute, but he doesn't think that anyone should have to feel so deprived of sex like he is.

"I'm two quarters and a heart down" - The quarters represent his payment to the prostitute, so he's "down" two quarters, and he's also "a heart down" because he is, after all, an emo kid, and he may have some emotional attachment to the prostitute and it hurts his poor little emo heart knowing that she's only there to sex him up. Or he's "a heart down" because a part of him dies inside knowing that he's bringing himself so low to pay for sex.

"I don't want to forget how your voice sounds" - He really does like her, even though she's just a prostitute and he wants to be able to remember her.

"These words are all I have / so I write them / so you need them just to get by" - He's writing the song to more easily remember the times they shared.

"Dance, dance" - "Sex, sex"

"We're falling apart to half time" - She only stayed for 30 minutes, even though he payed for a full hour.

"These are the lives you'd love to lead" - Everyone would like to have sex with random girls as often as would please them.

"This is the way they'd love / if they knew how misery loved me" - The fans would be disappointed if they knew how low he stooped.

"You always fold just / before you're found out" - She leaves before anyone can find out what they've done.

"Drink up it's last call, last resort / but only the first mistake" - Finish of that liquor, because you're going to want to forget what you did last night. This is his last resort since he can't get laid otherwise, and the prostitute is only the first mistake that he'll make because it's his first time.

"Why don't you show me / the little bit of spine / you've been saving for his mattress (love)" - He's asking her to do to him what she would do to someone she loves.

"I only want sympathy / in the form of you / crawling into bed with me" - If she's going to feel sorry for him, she better feel sorry while she's doing him.

THE END.

Butthole Pleasures... Fall Out Boy is from an Episode of the Simpsons... and Since FOB are from Chicago, and the Simpsons live in Springfield, the band sortof atributes stuff to them... I know of atleast 3 Videos where there is a simpson's referance or two hidden within the video. Dance Dance and Sugar are 2 of them...

The Song has many meanings, like most decent songs do. \

The easyest one to grasp is that this song is about a Prom Night... as a Whole, but has many references to other things...

well, butthole pleasures, first of all i think you might be reading into this a liiiiiittle too much... i dont think the guys from FOB are making a reference to the cold war...
second of all i didnt know broken hearts emitted radiation. in that case i probably have cancer by now.
third of all, they said in an interview that someone yelled it out at one of their first shows, so they stuck with that name. but yeah... great song!!!

awesome. i had to listen to this song twice to like it though. anyway i dont really know what the "im two quarters and a heart down" part means but i think it has to do with him using the pay phone and he's listening to her answering machine not wanting to forget her voice. haha but i love the zelda explanation thing. never thought about it that way. im not really sure about the prostitute thing though. im not experienced in that "area" or whatever, but im pretty sure you pay more than two quarters. i guess.

so he's planning to fornicate with another man to alienate his fans

I think it's partly about him not being able to live u to the lyrics he writes in his songs, and his relationships always suffer because of these false expectations girls have.
hence:
she says she's no good
with words but i am worse
barely stuttered out
a joke of a romantic
stuck to my tongue
And
these words are all i have
so i write them
so you need them just to get by

Also- 2 quatres and a heart down. 2 quatres = a half = half hearted? thats what i always thought it meant anyway

This song is definitely about a girl cheating on a guy, and although he hates her deep down in his heart he wants to be with her just for the sex.

He isn't interested in any part of her anymore except for her body. I know exactly.

"i'm two quarters and a heart down" -- This part strikes me as maybe the way you measure life in a video game. (For example, in Legend of Zelda you start out with four hearts and lose one or part of one every time you get hit.) A quarter is the typical cost of keeping a video game going if your character dies.
