My rhyme ain't good just yet,
My brain and tongue just met,
And they ain't friends, so far,
My words don't travel far,
They tangle in my hair,
And tend to go nowhere,
They go right back inside,
Right past my brain and eyes
Into my stomach juice
Where they don't serve me use,
All melted calories,
Nutrition values.
And I absorb back in
The words right through my skin
They sit there festering inside my bowels

The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds
The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds

Got a soundtrack in my mind,
All the time. Kids-
Screamin' from too much beat up
And they don't even rhyme,
They just stand there, on a street corner,
Skin tucked in
And meat side out and shot,
And I'd like to turn them down
But there ain't no knob.
Run into picket fences
Not into picket lines.
All this hippie-shit for the 60's
And another cliche for our time. But,
But a one of these days your heart
Will just stop ticking,
And they sorta just don't find you till your cubicle is reeking.

The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds
The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds
Ahh ah ah ah ahh ah ah ah

Did you know that the gravedigger's still
Gettin' stuck in the machine
Even tough it's a whole other daydream.
It's another town it's another world,
Where the kids are asleep, where the loans are paid
And the lawns are mowed.
Whad'ya think'
All the gravediggers were gone'
Just cause one song is done
There's always another one,
Waiting right around the bend,
Till this one ends,
Then it begins
Squeaky clean, then it starts all over again.

The weather report keeps on
Tossing and turning,
Predicting and warning,
And warning and warning of,
Possibly it could be news publications and,
Possibly it could be news TV stations. That
Very same morning right next to her coffee
She noticed some bleeding and heard hollow coughing and
National Geographic was being too graphic,
When all she had wanted to know was the traffic
The worlds got a nosebleed it said
And we're flooding but we keep on cutting
The trees and the forests!'
And we keep on paying those freaks on the TV,
Who claim they will save us but want to enslave us.
And sweating like demons they scream through our speakers
But we leave the sound on 'cause silence is harder.
And no one's the killer and no one's the martyr
The world that has made us can no longer contain us
And profits are silent then rotting away 'cause

The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds.
The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds.
Ah ah ah'

My rhyme ain't good just yet,
My brain and tongue just met,
And they ain't friends, so far,
My words don't travel far,
They tangle in my hair,
And tend to go nowhere,
They grow right back inside,
Right past my brain and eyes
Into my stomach juice
Where they don't serve my juice,
All melted calories,
Nutrition values.
And I absorb back in
The words right through my skin
They sit there festering inside my bowels

The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds
The consonants and vowels
The consequence of sounds

General Comment:The song definitely is about the illuminati and how they're brainwashing the world through music with hidden messages about global enslavement, worshipping satan and other propeganda. The world is so busy listening to what they WANT to hear that we ignore what the lyrics are REALLY saying. "... Like deamonds they cream through our speakers... But we leave the sound on kuz silence is harder"

Also that the news is distracting us from what is going on behind the scenes of society, instead of just the weather and other useful information they play horror stories about murders and starvation to offset the problems we experience here.

"born into picket fences not into picket signs all of this hippie shits for the 60s another cliche in our time.. But what if one of these days your heart will just stop ticking and they sorta just dont find you till your cubicle is reaking". That part refers to how we are born into a society which puts so much emphasis on being perfect and ignoring problems instead of causing a scene and standing for whats right. she is telling us we had better speak up and fight for our rights before the 'machine' takes over healthcare and population control comes into play where they start letting people die.

"the gravediggers still get u stuck in the machine even though its a whole other daydream... Its another town its another world (where the kids are sleep and the loans are paid and the lawns are mowed"
-world leaders get us involved into politics as i what we want matter when all they want is a NewWorldOrder where everything is "perfect" and society obeys... Mind control and one government is what they desire which they plan to impliment as they have been slowly but surely as theyve been doing for years.

"what'd you think? All the gravediggers were gone just cause one song is done theres always another one... Then it begins squeeky clean and it tarts all over again". Gravediggers: illuminati. Shes saying just because we get rid of one "bad" person in office who cares cause theres another one waiting to fill his shoes and start the process of something else thats equally as bad but we wont see that because its a new face & different person.

"The worlds got a nosebleed its said & we are flooding but we keep on cutting the trees in the forest"
This I take to mean that the world is in serious trouble the way We are going but we just keep being selfish for humankind and mistreating mother earth anyway. "noones the killer and noones the martyr.." noone is taking responsibility for the negative on earth to be named as the killer and noones to be the martyr because none of us are forcing any responsibility and trying to change it all.
"the world that had made us can no longer contain us..." because we trash it and dont care and mother earth/god can only put up with our BS. for so long.. "prophets are silent and rotting away cause... The consenance and vowels" the hidden messages which are the sounds/vowels of music are consequently modifying our brains and we are forgetting the words the prophets spoke of goodness.

Finally "my rhyme ain't good just yet, my brain and tongue just met & they ain't friend so far. My words dont travel far they tangle in my hair... They grow right back inside into my stomach juice where thy dont serve much use"
Regina is saying that her words are meaningless right now because we dont yet understand what she is trying to educate the world about through her seemingly sporratic lyrics. So instead her words just sit in her stomach and make her sick because she is not blind to what is REALLY going on in the world but the majority of the worlds population is still in disbelief/uninformed about where we are headed... (which really sucks cause we all have to team up and fight to keep our freedomsif we want to keep them).

Ok, ok. Think im crazy? Do some research and find out about how artists and actors sign contracts agreeing to allow subliminal messages and such to be put into their music just so they can make theeee biiig buck.

Ps. Regina Spektor is fuc-ing awesome... I've noticed a lot of her inspiration comes from books like "a brave new world" which are totally about nwo. :]

    Thanks

General Comment:Okay, so this is my take on the song:
The "consequence of sounds" refers to everything people say, sing, etc. And it's kind of creating a broader sense of the idea of speech, like all it is is the consequence of sounds, so why do people worry so much about it?
Actually, the entire song is basically like someone looking down on the world as a little spec because it talks about how unimportant our lives really are, hence the "they sorta just don't find you till your cubicle is reeking"
So overall, stop stressing about unimportant things, say what you want to say, and don't think you're all that important because in the grand scheme of things, you really aren't.

I think this refers to one of her earlier songs, Pavlov's Daughter, where the first lines mention a gravedigger getting stuck in the machine. Interesting how she refers to one of her other songs as "a whole other daydream"!
    LOVE Regina!

General Comment:i think this song is brilliant. the way Regina words her thoughts is incredible.. to me, i think this song is pretty much just saying that we all have a voice, we have words, we have an outlet to say things and with that power comes responsibility and consequence. I dont know, thats what i like to get out of this song :)

General Comment:I just want to start by Saying I love Regina Spektor and its both a shame her only well-known song is Fidelity and a blessing bc t would be sad if she was entirely mainstream. Also people who comment that the song is "catchy" or hip hop...wow. lol

"My rhyme ain't good just yet

I interpret this as...Regina acknowledging that she struggles with trying to tell a complex message with only her words and feels her words are useless. Or perhaps that she has to use metaphors bc there arent words to explain what she is trying to.

I kind of think Regina is taking a hit at rap saying they try to be deep but she can see through that she'd like them to shut up but is incapable. (words cant be used). She mentions hippies being a cliche in our time probably meaning the hippie movement started out with a motive, a love for a sustainable future and anticonformity and tranformed into congformity, a trend without a cause or useless words bc it ruined itself.
and then she kinda implies but if u cant be a hippie bc they dont exist today to be your own self or u'll just end up conforming to a meaningless society where u will live an unfulfilled life

This song starts how it ends-gravedigger references another of her songs-saying shes used her words and theres still a problem

The media is too extensive. We are better off with less.

We're allowing people who are corrupt and "superior to us coontrol us and destroy our planet bc its easier. and no one person can be blamed. loss of intellect.

She can keep singing letting her words out..her song can repeat but who will listen

    "The consonants and vowels

    Hear the words
    Take action.
Bc the sounds that we're not turning down will lead to some serios consequences.

...Well thats one interpretation of mine to this song.

    I love this song =]

General Comment:Among other things I think this song is about every one saying something all at the same time, but no one's doing anything. It's like how you complain about your boss at work or about a teacher but you never do anything about it. It's horrific that people will watch news stories about killings and crime then go on with their day. No one acts anymore. Everyone is in their "picket fences" their ordinary life. You're born you grow up, you watch the news you get a house and kids and bills. And people dream and dream all they want but don't do anything. People die all the time and no one does anything. You may be a prophet you might be an artist, a genius. None of these things really exsist any more but we priase people like Einstein or George Washington. Prophets are silent. Too many people are speaking to hear them. People are dying and the are too many people speaking to save them. And before you know it while you're living your life watching the weather going to work, you die and your life becomes a little blurb in a news paper. And people scream.

I have this feeling that the news people commit all the crimes they speak of just to have something to talk about in the morning. It's not so false though. People die while other people are watching the news.

General Comment:i think that this song is about what it says its about... its about sounds... and words more specifically. she writes her music, the guys on the corner free styling, the media, people living life. so, in saying that... most of u i would agree with. it is certainly about her making art and how that feels. its also about how the guys on the corner are just making noise instead of creating her heavily crafted songs. the part about the 60s and the cubical could be about how although protesting is cliche, it is still important to be heard.. or else no1 will notice when u r gone. my favorite part is about the media, which i think is obviously about fear mongering.
