Lyrics for Amazing as interpreted by dancer31814

Amazing Lyrics
How am I supposed to breathe?
I try to relax. I touch your still frame
So I can watch you closer
And study the ways I believe I belong to you
I scratch at your waist line... your doll hair
I dig up the thought of how your eyes glow
So I make you my religion, my collision, an escape goat
So have I found your secret weak spot, baby?

(Chorus) Can you pretend I'm amazing?
I can pretend I'm amazing...
Instead of what we both know
I cut to the punch line baby
Can you pretend I'm amazing
Instead of what we both know

Now our history is for sale
And for that I apoligize
You see you're my only know how
The study of when I believe I belonged to you
You see I've made you into something delicious,
My sweet ghost
So have I found your secret weak spot, baby?

(Chorus)

i love this song. I think it's mostly about a young man who is still confused about love. He knows he isnt the perfect boyfriend, but he can't help but fall completely in love with his girl. So he wants her to at least pretend she is as in love.

or something like that :)

nice analogy (SP) lol! Well.. What it says to me is maybe they could have been together for a while and he'd made som any mistakes, and she's having her doubts, and he wants her to pretend things are alright with them, that he is as amazing to her as she is to him. Because he does love her, maybe she is off in her own little world.. Idk.. awesome song, though!

to me it means knowing that the one you're with doesn't honestly want you. he/she wants someone else and you're just asking them to pretend that this is what they really want.

To me, this song can have many different interpritations.

It can be someone who is in love with a girl who he is obsessed with. He keeps trying to get at her to find her "secret weak spot." He believes her to be his only savior from life, and his "only know how," meaning she is the only thing that he knows about. He has clearly confronted her before and she had told him off, making him panic and have trouble breathing, and yet he still wants her to believe he's amazing, "instead of what [they] both know." Also, this has become public, now...as their "history is now for sale," stating that it's in magazines or some sort of newspaper article type dealie.

It can also be a lost love, as was previously stated. He might also still have one picture of her and he holds it in high regard. He still touches at it wishing she was with him. I still think he would be obsessed with her, by making her his religion.

It can also be a love who has died by a mistake that he says he had done (if that makes sense). He could be home alone after his girlfriends death wondering how he can still live, or how he's "suppose to breathe." He blames the accident on himself which would make him depressed, and he's asking for forgivness from her. He askes by him wondering if he's still amazing to her, or at least having her pretend it so he can finally move on with life. He has a box full of pictures that he takes out as he prolly finds one at night time that gives the appearance of her eyes glowing (you know what it's like at nighttime with a flash...you get that white thing in your eye and it looks like your eyes are glowing).

It sounded like I babbled a lot...haha...oh well...I just kept listening to the song and when I heard something that went with what I was saying, I put it in a pile...and when from their...but oh well...hope it's right!

my thoughts...

he has killed her. I go with the idea that he was obsessed with her although it could be a fight that caused him to kill her. The parts that seem to point to the idea she is dead are the "thought" of her eyes glowing because he will never seem them "glow" again, also the history for sale (their story being told to everyone in court or media) and "my sweet ghost" in the literal sense.

I also take the "Have I found your sweet spot" to be sarcasm. That is what makes me think about anger in the song. In the sense of, "How do you like me now, I bet that isn't what you expected"

Slipknot had this sort of song with Vermillion (Part 1 and 2) check it out, great song and will make you see this song in the way I do.

suprised not to many thoughts on this song...great song!!! what i think this song means is---

the first verse- "How am I supposed to breathe?
I try to relax. I touch your still frame
So I can watch you closer
And study the ways I believe I belong to you
I scratch at your waist line... your doll hair
I dig up the thought of how your eyes glow I make you my religion, my collision, an escape goat
So have I found your secret weak spot, baby?

i think everything in this verse is sayin how much hes in love with her...how much he wants her...then the last line "so have i found ur secret weak spot" i think its sayin have i made u fall in love with me.

the chorus i think is him tellin her to jus pretend he does everything right and hes amazing.

the second verse i feel is she doesnt want him at all nemore bcuz he was too in love with her...hints "our history is for sale, and for that i apoligize." and "the study of when i beleived i belonged to you" is him remember how he once had her but lost it, and hes still in love with her so hes still askin has he found her weak spot, does she love him yet!!!

maybe wrong but thas what i see!!

Okay I like some people's thoughts on this but I'm just going to tell you exactly what it means.
My friend personally knows Blue October and the man that worte this song. This is the story that inspired it.

The man was in love with his girl friend very much and they'd been engaged to her for awhile. 2 weeks before the wedding she told him that he no longer amazed him and that she'd been cheating on him fo rTwo years.
A little while afterwards they became famous.

Her eyes glowing and everything has nothing to do with him killing her.
however my favorite bpart is the
"Now our history is for sale
And for that I apoligize" He's talking about writing about their history and putting it in a song for people to listen to and buy.

That's it ya'll I hope this cleared some things up!

i think ivycreed is bluffing. the lyrics really seem to suggest that he has killed her, thereby making her into something delicious, his sweet ghost. i think rnjholley is dead on.

i think its about a stalker who loves a girl and thought she loved him, so now he stalks her and tries to think of ways to "Be amamzing"

either that or he kiddnapped her...

Ivycreed is most likely right. It sounds very much like Justin, the singer. He's been through alot and I know that he did have a gf who he was very much in love with who cheated on him. So the meaning Ivycreed says makes very much sense. And I'm guessing this girl he speaks of in this song is the same girl he sings about in Congradulations where he goes to his ex girlfriends wedding.

some interesting thoughts indeed... death, love, brake up, cheating... to me its a little diff, I didn't read all so if I repeat I appologize... I think he is inlove with a girl who is just a friend, and she never sees him the way he sees her, and this song is kind of his way of giving up, like his last message to her, one last attempt to get his true love, hence trying to find the weakspot, he obviously knows her well, and she knows him, to me its more that wanting what you cant have feeling...
I related to this very strongly, I liked a friend, I knew was impossible, and she saw through all my flaws, and I was always wanted her to see me more glorified like I saw her, instead of seeing me as I was... a haunting feeling to know you will never have something you want that bad

i say he killed her and thats why he is saying 'touching her still frame' then he is touching her all over with the 'I scratch at your waist line... your doll hair' he is caressing her. he is saying now that she is dead that he can watch her closer and everything. it is really a creepy, scary song i think!!

to prove he is obsessed with this girl is saying she is his religion and all that..

the reason he killed her was because she thought he was a lot less then her, maybe like popular and nerd, rich and poor, she thought he was pathetic and not amazing, thats why he is saying can u pretend im amazing, i can pretend im amazing, but no one else has to know that im not amazing.. saying that by saying 'instead of what we both know' like they both know he is not amazing.

he is obsessed with this girl i think, and the music is creepy and haunting so i am guessing he has a mental disorder.

The study of when I believe I belonged to you
You see I've made you into something delicious,
My sweet ghost
So have I found your secret weak spot, baby?

this here i think he is saying that he has been studying her, thinking about them being together and now that she is dead, if he kills himself too then they can be together. he is saying my sweet ghost to make the death sound romantic and like he is madly in love with her.. saying my sweet ghost, sweet is a name you give to someone you really love.

'So have I found your secret weak spot, baby?'
i think that is saying that when she was alive, he kept you know, sending her flowers making her love letters stuff like that to see what makes her like a guy but he couldnt find her 'weak spot' or the spot of which will maker her love him. killing her was her weak spot because now he believes they are in love or that they can be together.

he is sick twisted and scary.. he thinks that killing her is a positive thing for their relationship..

then at the end he is saying sorry and there she goes.. so maybe she is dying in his arms or something, she isnt dead yet, and when he saying and there it goes is when she actually dies, or maybe he is cutting himself or something and when he says there it goes, thats him dying..

another thing that got me thinking was that an
escape goat is: Someone flirted with, obsessed over and generally courted by a person in a relationship they want to get out of in the hope that it will give them the courage and will to leave. so maybe they were in a relation ship and he started obsessing over her OR maybe he got so worked up when he talked to other guys or maybe she cheated on him so he belted her to death.. i am still sticking with the mental disorder and the girl wanted to get out but he beat her up but still claimed to love her, do u understand what i mean, like he says its her fault she gets belted not his. then she doesnt something bad so he just keeps belting her because he doesnt want to loose her, thats what metal disorders do to some people isnt it??

god.
its hard to say hey!

awesome as song tho i love it.. its so scary, gives me nightmares!!

possibly , maybe , just a bit but i agree with a lot of people on this one. i think it's explained well enough by xmanofsteel69. but these are my thoughts : maybe the one singing hurt the one he loved (possibly physicaly or mentaly) and he's sorry so he's trying to get things back to where they were "Can you pretend I'm amazing?
I can pretend I'm amazing...
Instead of what we both know"

see he's trying to ask her will she forgive and forget ?

and "now our history is for sale.." i think that maybe he hurt her bad enough that it made news somehow ?
not sure but it's what i think.

I don't think he killed her... ivycreed could be telling the truth. But when I hear the lines like "I scratch at your waistline, your doll hair" I definitely think of him being desperate and obsessed. And he wants to be amazing for her, but he's constantly letting her down, and can't seem to be the kind of man that's expected. He's looking for her weak spots- trying to get her to see him as 'amazing'.

By the way, I'm listening to the live version right now- there's one verse where he sings "We said goodbyeeeee.... We said goodbyeeeeeee...." I don't think he killed her- I think they broke up.

This could also be about a murderer who has killed a child. In that case this song is really dark

Ok, I know I'm about a year late on posting a meaning for this particular song, but I just recently started browsing this site. Better late than never I guess, lol.
Anyway........I became entranced by this song the first time I heard it. I'm a 47 yr old woman so my thoughts of the meaning on this song are probably going to be a little more off base than others. Understanding that "ivycreed" claims to "know Blue October" personally by 1 degree of separation, I'm going to pretend for the purpose of my explanation that he/she doesn't know jack.

The VERY first thing that popped into my mind when hearing this song was John Hinckley Jr.'s attempt on the life of President Ronald Regan in hopes to get the attention of Jodie Foster. The basic tone of the song, melencholy, eerie melody seems to suggest some creepiness to me. Hinckley's obvious over-the-top obsession with Ms. Foster is related in phrases such as "how am I supposed to breath" "I try to relax". "I study the ways I belong to you" suggests his fantasizing about her. Touching her still frame, doll hair, glowing eyes, to me means photographs of Jodie. The recurring phrase "Can we pretend I'm amazing" meaning that what he did by shooting Regan was, in itself amazing, but a horrible act. Like he's asking her to forgive the way in which he chose to get her attention, but acknowledge that he did in fact do just that. "Our history is for sale and for that I apologize" meaning the obvious. The story did sell and he's apologizing for the fact that her name will forever be linked to the attempted assasination of a United States President.

Maybe I'm over dramatizing my interpretation, but the strongly poetic nature of these lyrics in combination with obviously well thought out musical composition suggests to me that this isn't just another "she done me wrong" song. I'd LOVE some feedback!!!!
