take a look at my girlfriend
she's the only one i got
not much of a girlfriend
i never seem to get a lot

it's been some time since we last spoke
this is gonna sound like a bad joke
but momma i fell in love again
it's safe to say i have a new girlfriend

and i know it sounds so old
but cupid got me in a chokehold
and i'm afraid i might give in
towels on the mat my white flag is wavin'

i mean she even cooks me pancakes
and alka seltzer when my tummy aches
if that ain't love then i don't know what love is

we even got a secret handshake
and she loves the music that my band makes
i know i'm young but if i had to choose her or the sun
i'd be one nocturnal son of a gun

take a look at my girlfriend
she's the only one i got
not much of a girlfriend
i never seem to get a lot

take a look at my girlfriend
she's the only one i got
not much of a girlfriend
i never seem to get a lot

it's been awhile since we talked last and i'm tryin' hard not to talk fast
but dad i'm finally thinkin' i may have found the one
type of girl that will make you way proud of your son

and i know you heard the last song about the girls that didn't last long
but i promise this is on a whole new plane
i can tell by the way she says my name

i love the way she calls my phone
she even got her very own ringtone
if that ain't love then i don't know what love is

it's gonna be a long drive home but i know as soon as i arrive home
and i open the door take off my coat and throw my bag on the floor
she'll be back in my arms into my arms once more for sure

take a look at my girlfriend
she's the only one i got
not much of a girlfriend
i never seem to get a lot

she's got a smile that would make the most senile
annoying old man bite his tongue
i'm not done
she's got eyes comparable to sunrise
and it doesn't stop there
man i swear
she's got porcelain skin of course she's a ten
and now she's even got her own song
but movin' on
she's got the cutest laugh i ever heard
and we can be on the phone for three hours
not sayin' one word
and i would still cherish every moment
and when i start to build my future she's the main component
call it dumb call it luck call it love or whatever you call it but
everywhere i go i keep her picture in my wallet like you

take a look at my girlfriend
she's the only one i got
not much of a girlfriend
i never seem to get a lot

take a look at my girlfriend
she's the only one i got
not much of a girlfriend
i never seem to get a lot

My Interpretation:First off... love the music video to this... fuckin hilarious.
But my original thoughts on this song (before the video) were those of a guy falling under the spell of a female vampire. (bear with me here).

a narrative where the artist is leaving a message to his parents about his new found obsessive kinda love.
how everything is amazing in the beginning...

The first line that sounds vampiric is:
"i know i'm young but if i had to choose her or the sun
i'd be one nocturnal son of a gun"

then he goes on to say:
"she's got a smile that would make the most senile
annoying old man bite his tongue" which speaks to her powers of manipulation.

"she's got eyes comparable to sunrise"
does that remind you of vampires with red eyes?

"she's got porcelain skin of course she's a ten"
Pocelain skin... like the dead right?

"she's got the cutest laugh i ever heard"
For some reason i imagine her evily laughing over him while she drains him... and him blissfully unaware...

"and we can be on the phone for three hours
not sayin' one word and i would still cherish every moment"
again speaking to her level of control over him.

"everywhere i go i keep her picture in my wallet like you."
for some reason this makes me imagine him carrying a blank photo (vampires can't take photos right?) which goes into the whole "not much of a girlfriend, but she's the only one i got"

Yeah I know it's a stretch, but I've been in those energy vampire sort of relationships before... I think most of us have (or will) at some point... but anyway that's my two cents. :)

Song Meaning:It's about him getting all these girlfriends like he always does and they never work out but he's definitly sure that this girl is the one(like in the lines "Dad I'm finally thinking I may have found the one" and "Mama I fell in love again as if to say I have a new girlfriend" )but she ends up not working out either. And the Gym Class Heroes are showing in the lyrics how he thinks he's so in love by describing how great the girl is and stuff like "If that ain't love then I don't know what love is". But at the very end I guess he actually finds the one because if you watch the music video Cupid's trying to get him to break up the girl but it won't work so I guess that one worked out.

My Interpretation:This song is so cute. I think the chorus is very telling about this guy's previous relationships. The first things that come to his mind when he describes his girlfriend is that he's being monogamous for once and that they don't have a lot of sex. But he's fallen so completely in love with this girl, and every little moment in their relationship makes him love her more, that she makes him not even care about all that.

General Comment:Think the second video with cupid and the three girls explains it best. The 1st 1 is kinda jokey, but the 2nd 1 is describing how he's 'in love' with the 1st 2 girls, even tho they arent happy. This would link with the fact that it was cupid makes him love them. Then he realsies what love really is when he falls in love of his own account. And I think the chorus is sposed to be ironic, coz he's saying what good gfs they are, when really they're the best he could get and they don't get on well. That's probly why it's from a different song (Breakfast in America) and sung by Patrick Stump! His voice is sooo gorgeous in this. Fan girl moment there :S But it's a cute song and the vids are funny....

General Comment:This song is only popular because fans love the chorus. The chorus of which is stolen from Supertramps "Breakfast in America".

But why be original when you can steal from a retired band?

General Comment:the video for this kind of explains the song.

the first few verses are about girls he thinks he's in love with but it turns out he's not for whatever reason.
then the last verse "she got a smile that.." etc is a girlfriend he really is in love with and he like, finally realises what love really is.

My Interpretation:I think that watching the music video for this song really makes a difference in how the song is interpreted. Reading through the other comments, nobody else really said what I think this song is about, so I though I'd throw in my two cents.

The song starts off talking about how he fell in love with this girl. She cooks him pancakes, gives him alka seltzer, and what-not. He says it's love, but gives somewhat empty examples, and sure enough, it ends up not working out.
At this point, he finds a new girl, and falls in love with her, citing such evidence as "she even got her very own ringtone." That is just about the hollowest excuse for love I've ever heard. Just like the first relationship, this one doesn't work out either.
Then comes the 3rd girl. For this one, the mood of the song changes. He talks about more significant things, and has a lot more to say about her. She seems to mean a lot more to him than the other two girls. Also, he doesn't call it love. INstead of saying something along the lines of "I'm in love" he basically says "I don't care what you call it, but there's something there." The song also slows down, and has a more romantic and serious feel to it, whereas the rest of the song is kinda upbeat and almost playfully sarcastic in ways.
Another thing to note is Cupid. For the first two women, cupid influenced the relationship by getting this guy to fall for the girls. In the third, Cupid didn't get a chance. If you watch the video, Cupid was about to make another attempt at true love, but the guy starts talking to the other girl first, indiciating that this love wasn't forced.
So basically, what I'm trying to say is that this song is about trying to force love. More and more, it seems as if young people enter a relationship, and convince themselves that this is the one. They dedicate themselves completely to that person, and say they found true love, and all that. They don't know what actual love is, and give up everything. People are losing virginity at younger ages, and have sex with more people, because they think they found someone who is worth more than everyone else, and do things they really shouldn't do. Then, because it is just another fling, it ends up falling apart, and then they go their separate ways, and find someone else whot hey fall in love with. This song is about a guy who enters relationships thinkign they're the real deal, but in the end, finds a girl who actually is different. He tries forcing love, and makes a girl out to be more than she really is. It's a warnign to not do that, because it never works out. If you want real love, you have to hold back and let it happen. Be patient, and wait for the right person.

General Comment:To me, he's talking about how when he went out with girls he got easily fooled by little things they did that made him think he was in love. the one he ends up falling in love with at the end are things that are so much more meaningful to him and he's getting serious with this girl which is the one he is truly in love with. it's generally about being in love and the person you fall in love with is the one that you have a deeper relationship with and simple things such as talking on the phone for hours and not saying one word.
