"Oh no, this couldn't be more unexpected"
To me, this song is about a guy who unexpectedly fell for a girl. Maybe she was in his group of friends, maybe he's known her for a long time, or maybe he even recently met her but didn't think anything of it. Whatever the case, it's hit him that he wants this girl. It's like something woke him up and he's like, "woah! why the hell didn't I see this here before?" I think we've all those times where we've realized how awesome someone is and wonder why we weren't initially interested in them.

Now that he realizes his feelings, he's picking up on clues that she's been interested in him as well. He realizes now that things could have already progressed between them had he realized his feelings sooner, so all of a sudden he has become aware of his pace, and he realizes that she might be confused about whether or not he's interested in her, and might give up on him, but now that he knows how he feels, he's going to chase her down and make it obvious. He doesn't want her to get too confused or thrown too far off, because he's going to pick up the pace now.

For whatever reason, this attraction may seem uncalled for because apparently it's "out of line". Maybe they're friends so he's wondering if it's out of line, maybe it's a girl with a boyfriend, maybe it's a girl who isn't his usual type. But he realizes now that she's breaking him down. Maybe her words hold weight to him and get to him, maybe he can open up to her easily, or maybe she's just plain getting to him on a different level than normal.

he realizes that this girl is worth it and he somehow trusts her, and he can't get enough of her, so he's hanging on "contagiously". Once again, it sounds like they could be friends, and since they've always been there for each other, he knows he can take a chance with her, hence, 'take a shot' on her.

The first part is pretty obvious. He's predictable around her. She knows what he's going to do. he always does the same thing. he falls victim to her very easily. The second part kind of contradicts the opening lyrics 'this couldn't be more unexpected'. Because if he didn't expect to feel like this and has been moving in so slow, then how could it be love at first sight? So I think this means that they instantly clicked though he didn't give it much thought at the time, they were already friends, or maybe he now recalls something she said or did when they first met that holds weight to him now.

For whatever reason, this attraction seems uncalled for or crazy. Like I said, maybe they're friends, she has boyfriend,or whatever. But these boundaries don't matter to him anymore. He's smitten and is set on making this girl his.

He suddenly realizes that this girl has everything he wants / needs.

He's saying that he realizes he's been slow to acknowledge his feelings, and he's ready to make up for it. He knows what he feels now and he hopes that it isn't too late and that she'll still welcome his confession of feelings.

* I kept making up excuses not to meet him because i was afraid even though i really wanted to. He once asked me what he was doing wrong and that's when i came clean about things.

*the way we were talking and getting along made him the only one i would take a shot on with what is going on in my life. The fact that he kept talking to me after i told him my situation kept me hanging on to him. We were super cutesy too and he was so positive about everything
Unfortunately I recently went out with him and I don't think it's gonna go anywhere. I basically think this song is about someone who is suprised by feelings that they develop for someone. For one reason or another they are hesistant to act on their feelings. However, the way the person makes them feel is making them completely breakdown. The person is everything they want and they are hoping to them theirs. The last line indicates that if they confess the way they feel will the other person feel the same and return the feelings.
I can really relate to this right now. I'm falling for my bestfriend...
second stanza hes saying that theres nothing that could take his happiness away but her leaving him. he doesnt want her to freak out because he loves her more than any other girl hes liked or known. shes different and his feelings for her can't seem to go away. and then she starts to feel the same for him.
third stanza hes saying he loves her and should expect him to show her how much he loves her because hes loveed her since the first day he saw her. and that he hopes she'll do the same
fourth stanza hes hurting because of how long it took him to tell her he loved her. he doesnt want her to freak out he loves or say its too late she didnt wait long enough for him. hes asking her to listen to him and take in the fact that he loves her.
Like a of people have stated so far, I think the song clearly is about falling for someone who, for one reason or another, you cant have. In my case I'm in love with my best friend's gf and cant do anything about it. The song just captured me from the first time I heard the first line.
I first heard this song a month ago.
A good friend of mine (who has feelings for me) told me to listen to this song one night because it described EXACTLY how he felt about me.
So I did, and i think it was 12:00 at night, but once I heard this song I almost started tearing up.
It was heartbreakingly beautiful and it made me realize i did have some feelings for him too.

My interpretation of the song is about someone who is so in love with someone, that it aches but they are a bit afraid that they might scare the person away with their feelings.
