My interpretation of this song is as follows. the singer is in a relationship in which he is happy and devoted to the other person, but maybe is still not ready to take it up a notch to marriage, or perhaps having children. I infer that the other person has either left him, or is indecise about continuing in the relationship because of this. His message seems to be, "please let's stay together, we're meant for each other, but I just can't give you what you want right now."
I'm curious, does anyone else see the song this way?

After really reading into it - I can fully agree with you because that is my first impression as well... but another option I thought of is that the singer is worried about his pregnant wife or girlfriend who has been in an accident and is in the hospital. He loves her so much and he himself has nowhere else to go without her. He's trying not to think about her dying but trying to think optomistically, planning his future with her and being paranoid at home trying to keep his mind of this tradgedy while he wait for a phone call to confirm that she is going to be ok. This suggestion might seem crazy but if you really read it I think it's a possibility...
