You're such a mystery
I just want to stand and stare
Nibble on your ear
And smell the ocean in your hair (Ocean in your hair, ocean in your hair)
I know you damage me
You leave me tangled in a knot (Oh-oh-oh-oh)
But when you reappear
I see Neptunian blues that eyes forgot (Eyes forgot)
Neptunian blues that eyes forgot (Blues that eyes forgot, eyes forgot)

Still, I only feel alive when the VU is flashing
Alarms going off in my head
I want to grab you and just kiss you
Maybe I should sit down
No sense in cashing us now
Yeah, I only feel all right when the VU is flashing
And bombs going off in my head
I want to grab you, want to scream at you, no icing me down
The party's crashing us now
The party's crashing us now

Oh, well, we made love
Like a pair of black wizards
You freed me from the past
You fucked the suburbs out of me (The suburbs out of me)
And all those ugly days
That made us so sick (Oh-oh-oh-oh)
They are just fossils now
We've learned the elevating trick (Elevating trick, elevating trick)
We've learned the elevating trick (Elevating trick, elevating trick)

Still, I only feel all right when the VU is flashing
Alarms going off in my head
I want to grab you and just kiss you
Maybe I should come down
No sense in cashing us now
Still, I only feel alive when the VU is flashing
And bombs going off in my head
I want to grab you, want to scream at you, no icing me down
The party's crashing us now
The party's crashing us now

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, oh-oh

I only feel all right when the VU is flashing
Alarms going off in my head
I want to grab you, want to scream at you, no icing me down
The party's crashing us now
I only feel all right when the VU is flashing
And bombs going off in my head
I want to grab you and just kiss you
Maybe I should come down
No sense in cashing us now

The party's crashing us now

This song is my guilty pleasure. I have done a lot of things i regret at parties, but this song makes me remeber those moments of fleeting exctacy, and I don't regret one moment of it. I especially like the line "you free me from the past you fucked the suburbs out ot me gone are those ugly days that made us so sick they are just fossils now we learned the elevated tricks" I grew up in a really conservative suburbian house and at school no one would even look at me. Then I get to college, and it's a whole different world from what I had known. Eventually I came out of the closet and found myself a girlfriend, and let's just say...my eyes were opened to a whole new world.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

This song is def a twin to "Unfair" (a song she has been quoted as saying is about falling in love with someone who is already in a relationship) so it is presumably about the same person. Given the references to buying an apartment and not being able to see her love interest "after tonight," it's most likely that she's moving away and she'll "wait a day to break the bad news" (i.e. notifying him that she's leaving once she's already gone). And, of course, the fact that she sees in him a fellow "idealist" and "dreamer" (terms commonly given to people with the INFP personality on the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)) portends that she'll always be left wondering if they would've been perfect together.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
