Lyrics for Requiem for O.M.M.2 as interpreted by mrs-mojo-risin

Requiem for O.M.M.2 Lyrics
When I met you, I was just a kid
Hadn't built up my defenses
So I gave my heart completely
Vaseline over the lenses

Memories don't go away
I remember every day

I never, ever stop wondering
Wondering if you still think of us
I don't need a photograph
Because you've never left my mind
No, you've never left my mind

I remember feeling like a ship
Whose captain was too drunk to steer
And you watched as I was sinking
Waving sadly from the pier

Memories don't go away
I remember every day

I never, ever stop wondering
Wondering if you still think of us
I don't need a photograph
Because you've never left my mind
No, you've never left my mind

It's such a burden to carry around
The vestiges of dead dreams
And I don't want to make a wake out of my life
I just have to let you go

it\'s \"sinking\", not \"singing\".

the meaning of this song is very obvious. it\'s simple, but very meaningful, & i love it.

I think the song title might be in refrence to the Olympus OM--2 camera. The song constantly refrences to photos and memories. Vasaline over the lense of a camera is something you do typically in college if your styding photography, which means I think he's refering to a girl her fell in and out of love with at a young age (also refrence to no defences and giving away his heart at a young age), what he's saying is that he despite having pictures to remind him, he doesn't need them because he's so scared by his love, that he lost. Typical love song lost thing, with a twist. I'm pretty sure the title is in refrence to the camera. Good song. :)

Could the title be a requiem for "Of Montreal Mark II"? This is, according to purists, the second phase of the band, which might indicate that the Sunlandic Twins was meant to usher in a new version of Of Montreal. Just my guess.

vaseline over the lenses is an "old school" technique in photography (not reserved for JUST collegiate students) to make the subjects in the frame seem fuzzy and lower contrast. it is jokingly said that this technique is used in a lot of nude photographing to make people look less fatter. i think in respect to the barnes' lyrics, the vaseline over the lenses depicts a youth in love's inability to see the picture as it really is, or how it will really turn out.

It's sort of strange for such happy sounding music to accompany such sad lyrics. Yeah, so the song, like Scuterbob said, is about a first love that didn't work out quite as he planned.

I don't know what of Montreal purists there are out there, but I do know this.

OMM2 definitely = of Montreal Mark II. "of Montreal Mark I" was coined by the late bp helium to describe the first line-up of of Montreal. Mark II ended between Aldhil's Arboretum and Satanic Panic.

of Monteal has lots of songs that sound happy but are actually really sad. So, it's not that stange. More like wonderful. That's why they're my favorite.

i love the simile the song has in it about him feeling like a ship. to me it says that his feelings are out of control for this girl (or guy?) and he can't control them, and his lover or whoever he's chasing (and you watched as i was sinking, waving sadly from the pier) knows how much he's hurting from them but refuses to help.

out of control for a girl, he's married to one named Nina. haha. anyways this song is beautiful one of my first favorite of montreal songs, it describes me and this boy perfectly. young love that went wrong, but i never forgot about it. and i wonder if he ever thinks about it. but in the end you have to let go.

Wonder if anyone knows whether there is a Requiem for O.M.M (as in O.M.M the first)? I dunno... they have weird (albeit cool) titles for their songs.

hah i was thinking beach boys also.
the song remind me of 'girlfriend in a coma' by the smiths, how they both have catchy beats but the lyrics aren't too happy.
good song =)

Here's my theory: I think this song is about the girl from Montreal that broke Kevin's heart. To me the lyrics all point to that. My guess is that this is the last one he wrote about her and serves as sort of a send-off. Like "I won't forget you, but you're just not important to me anymore". Look at the last stanza.

After learning about what OMMII is, this song makes so much more sense...and now I feel like an idiot for requesting songs off of Coquelicot at shows. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think K. Barnes used to be into a lot of drugs (See Heimdalsgate and Lysergic Bliss), and perhaps the drugs are what produced the storytelling era? I'm not really sure, but it would make sense as to why KB doesn't like to awknowledge the era.

this is like the instantly classic sounding post-break-up song, and you've all summed up that part already.

so, isn't vestiges the most delicious word you've ever heard? vestiges.

go ahead, say it out loud a couple times. say it in a sentence.

vestiges.

(okay, i'm crazy, but seriously.....vestiges....)

I've heard in a bunch of places that it's OF MONTREAL MACH 2 not Mark 2. Especially on the E6 Townhall, and they usually know what they're talking about.
