When I met you, I was just a kid -- hadn't built up my defenses.
So I gave my heart completely -- Vaseline all over the lenses.
Memories don't go away; I remember every day.

I never ever stop wondering, wondering if you still think of us.
I don't need a photograph 'cause you've never left my mind.
No, you've never left my mind.

I remember feeling like a ship whose captain was too drunk to steer.
And you watched as I was sinking, waving sadly from the pier.
Memories don't go away; I remember every day.

I never ever stop wondering, wondering if you still think of us.
I don't need a photograph 'cause you've never left my mind.
No, you've never left my mind.

It's such a burden to carry 'round the vestiges of dead dreams,
And I don't want to make a wake out of my life.
I just had to let you go...

My Interpretation:The first thing that struck me about the song was O.M.M. in the title, which i immediately recognized as OF MICE AND MEN, and looking at the lyrics, the song exactly follows the book. watch:
~"When I met you, I was just a kid, Hadn't built up my defenses" -George met Lenny as a kid, where he built up his emotional attachment and friendship with him
~"Vaseline over the lenses"- an allusion the the Vaseline glove perhaps?
~"Memories don't go away I remember every day" sung in a deep, dumb voice ,aka Lenny trying to convince George that he is not forgetful all the time, a conversation that happened in the book
~The song goes on to talk about the helplessness of George after the story goes to shit and George has to kill Lenny, conferred by the metaphor about the ship
~"It's such a burden to carry around, The vestiges of dead dreams, And I don't want to make a wake out of my life, I just have to let you go "- This final thing is really important and summarizes what the book is about: the denial of the dreams and ruining of plans, more specifically the American dream. George had to kill Lenny and afterward, stopped pursuing their dream of owning land.

The title OF MICE and MEN 2 Requiem means George is reflecting on the events of the book after the death of Lenny and is a song to commemorate Lenny.

Memory:This song is me in a nut shell. I spent 2 years with a girl an she crushed my heart as if it was meaningless. Not a day goes by where I think of her and I because she hasnt ever left my mind and even though Ive got plenty of pictures and refuse to loo at them shes still in my head reminding me of how much I love the time with her. I was young and defenseless so when I fell for her their was no turning back.

General Comment:Everyone has already summed up the song so I'm not even going to analyze it. It's been mentioned that it's pretty self-explanatory anyway. I just want to say that I love this song! It has a great beat, it reminds me of summer. To the person who said it has a Beach Boys vibe, I agree! So true!

General Comment:well i guess everyone has covered the fact that it is about love. the universial subject. but the moment i heard this song it remined me of myself. and i am sure a lot of other people feel like this song describes them and a past relationship. but this song to me reminds me of my long time crush. i like this guy for a very long time almost all of high school and we beacme friends , we were good friends, but never anything more. i can honestly say i love(d) him, still do. and he changed me . there was this one time that i think i missed the sign of him wanting more and this song describes the way i feel especial when he says" i never ever stop wondering
wondering if you still think of us" . plus he talks about young love and i can say that is so me high school and i am still young and i still have love for this guy. he is my big maybe if you knew him you would understand. we are still friends but he has moved away to college and such but i still wonder, i am better now moving on but i still hold on to that always will. thanks if you read this . ( i think a lot of other songs describe my life so don't be surprise to see my comments and my lame crush everwhere)

General Comment:my favorite part is "i never ever stop wondering
". i definitely agree that the lyrics are sad but it sounds happy. i think it's kind of bittersweet about letting someone go, maybe someone who died.
