Lyrics for Breathe Today as interpreted by catinthehatgrl

Breathe Today Lyrics
You try your hardest to perfect your explanations
You lie until they've run out of questions

You can only move as fast as those in front of you
And if you assume just like them, what good will it do?
So find out for yourself,so your ignorance will stop bleeding through

Only one thing
big enough to fill the void that's inside of you
It's just a breath away you can breathe today breathe today

So many lies swarming around you you're suffocating
The empty space in you
Steals your breath you're suffocating

Logic forces me to believe in this and now I've learned to see
I can only say what I've seen and heard and only you can choose
And every choice you make will affect you, search your own self

You can breathe today
So many lies swarming around you, you're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath you're suffocating

Big enough to fill the void that's inside of you
It's just a breath away

So many lies swarming around you you're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath you're suffocating

You can breathe today
Breathe today

Flyleaf isn't Christian band. They don't like to be labeled. They aren't a Christian band. They are just a band that happens to be full of Christians. They write and sing about the trials they've gone through and overcome in they're lives. God happens to be the center of what helped them through these trials so yeah your gonna find some Christian elements in they're music. That doesn't make them a "Christian" band. And you may be asking yourselves how I could know any of this. Well, I happen to know Lacey and Sameer so.........

In an interview Sameer says they are, and they are under a christian record label, so..... If they don't wanna be filed under "christian" why are they under a christian label???? Yes Lacey writes song about everything she has been through, and how Christ has helped her through.... so... umm...... Just to let you know MOKUJIN.83 If God is the center of what someone writes about... I would say that they might be a christian band..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NW7_I3QQ4SI

thats the url to the interview..... around 1 minute into it... he says it right there.... that they are a christian band....

to mokujin.83,

Flyleaf is a christian band.

they went through struggles and God was in the center helping them the whole way.

they made songs out of his love.

like there for you.

they want to give back the love he gave them.

and breathe today, talks about how someone can be totally lost looking for all the wrong answers when God is right there starring you in the face holding out his hand to open your eyes and see he belongs in your heart.

I saw Flyleaf just a few weeks ago.

and if they weren't Christian would they be explaining the awe of his holliness.
and power.

they're on a Christian label too.

and how can you not be a christian band with christians in it??
that makes the band christian.

and i talked to the drummer.

he said the band is christian

OWNED!!!!! lol...

the first few words - "You can only move as fast as
Who's in front of you" has so many christian meanings to it, it isn't even funny.

now i shall disect the quote >.<
"You can only move as fast as
Who's in front of you"

very true, you can only go as fast as who is in front of you. lets say you follow a "god" who "doesn't move very fast" as in not THE GOD, you have a limit to what you can do, in the christian faith, you are following god, who is unlimited in "speed," which is what the rest of the song is about, the lost person, mabe they are following another, possibly bad faith, they can't go far in their faith because it is the wrong faith, or something like that.
so the rest of the song goes like, you need god, you are full of lies and you can't end them because you are suffocating in them, you need god to help you, because you are stuck and trapped in what you are already doing. for all we know about the song, it could apply to drugs rather than faiths.

i don't know, this is just my fragment of opinion, feel free to leech and argument over it.

First of all I do know Lacey and Sameer. I live in Belton, Tx. I go to church with them. I really don't care if you believe me or not and Sameer said in the video that they are asked alot if they are a Christian band. All he said was that THEY are Christians. All I'm saying is they don't like to be labeled. I never disputed the fact that sing about God and the effect He's had on they're lives. Example: Killswitch Engage is an awesome band with alot of songs with Christian undertones. Yet they have said they're not a Christian band. A Christian band by definition sing's nothing but Christian music. Flyleaf does sing other stuff. I mean come on. If KoRn did a song about God would they suddenly be labeled a Christian band? Hell, no. I just find your arguments a little funny. None of you apparently read my earlier comment. I never once disputed they're Christianity. All I said is they're not a "Christian" band, CHRIS.P (yeah I can use all caps, too)

LOL!!! Ok, they're a Christian band huh? Well how about this?

Lacey: "We all share the same faith. And so when we deal with the whole 'Christian band thing', we kind of think about something POD says, like, 'If you're a Christian, it affects everything in your life. So if you're a plumber, does that make you a Christian plumber?' I don't know the answer. We're a band, it's part of who we are, so it comes out in our music, and it's the fuel for what we do. And finding faith saved my life. So I'm not ashamed of it at all. And most of our album reflects that."

And if you think I made that up here's the link.
http://www.flyleafonline.com/band/FAQ.php#1.4
And also I've looked up and down the net and there is nothing whatsoever about Octone Records being a Christian label. Then again I don't know.

roflroflrofl.

Why can't you people just get over what label they are?

It just kills me how some people are all, "I HATE RAP MUSIC, NEHNEHNEH."

Well, ok. Take your favourite band/artist.
Imagine them *LABELED* as your least favourite genre of music. Their sound is still the same, they dress the same way, they act the same way, the lyrics are the same; they're just completely the same. Except their label. It's just a different word.

Does that change how much you like them?

It shouldn't, and if it does, you're not a very loyal fan to the band.

i think that it's about being so overwhelmed with the lies of others and from personal experience i had my b.f leave me for another girl who at the time i thought was totally wrong for him and i kinda took it as his ignorant choice to pick her and i mean im not trying to totally taint this with high school drama or anything but yeah idk it makes sense to me lol!!

If there a Christian band or just a band full of Christians its not like it matters. Flyleaf is awesome. There not the best band with female vocals out there but there awesome.
But it there a diffrence between how Flyleaf sound and how most Christian bands sound. And sure there music has some Christian tones but its not like there directly saying it over and over like alot of Christian bands do.

ok to you peoples who are obsessing over if flyleaf is a christian rock band.like mokujinn.83 says maybe they dont want to be labeled. i know how it is. i dont beleive in labels. we are all people and if you want to judge other people go ahead. but if you are judged just remember that you know who you are. i think its a bunch of crap that you argue about this and that people judge people like they do. flyleaf is what ever they want to be. all i know is flyleaf is awesome and i really understand what the lyrics are saying.

ok to what this song means to me. it is my favorite song in the intire world and i can really get what they mean.well thats all i have to say for now.

If you think that that means they're not a Christian band then w/e. but What I get from that is she is saying that their album reflects thier faith(christianity) and that you cannot seperate your religion from everyday life and what you do.

There for, they are a christian band.

I think it's a very depressing song.
I believe Lacey has exsplained that this song is about her addiction to drugs. she tried to fill the void she was feeling with drugs, and she to hide it - the lies.

I believe that this song is about how all around us there are lies, about everything. By listening to the lies, we suffocate losing air. To me, the air i breathe is God. When i listen to lies and i belive them, I loose God. But then you have to take a breath.

See. You all are right.

It's all about God, I agree with what some other people said, she's reaching out to people who aren't really Christian, and she's talking about how easy it is to get sucked in by the world, but you have to make your own choice to breath.

Yeah, the first lines were really Christian-y, but I think the biggest line was "only one thing big enough to fill the void that's inside of you." I.E. God.

But yeah.

Awesome band.
Awesome song.

they are a christian band. fact. their music centers around god. but you can interpret this song and most of their others and MANY other ways. im not religious, but i love their music. they stand up for what they believe and their not ashamed to show it. i love that about them. theyre not forcing anyone to believe what they do and they leave room to apply their lyrics to other aspects of your life. christian or not theyve got talent and they can rock.

I think it's about gossip and lies and how lying can keep us from God? idk cuz they're a christian rock band and all so that's my guess.

The gossip part goes along with: And if you assume just like them, what good will it do?
So find out for yourself,so your ignorance will stop bleeding through

If you hear a rumor or whatever find out for yourself? and the suffocating part is how all the lies are getting to you and you can't take it: breathe today. I have noo clue where the God part comes into this song though.

First of all, whether a Christian band or not, I've found that many of Flyleaf's songs can be interpreted in many different ways.
As for this song, I believe it's about someone who just lies all the time, and only makes up more lies when there's a chance that they'll get caught in their lies. And that this way of life is only suffocating that person.
And when she says to "breathe" it seems that she means that that person should free themselves from thier lies and face up to the truth.
