Lyrics for Breathe Today as interpreted by catinthehatgrl

Breathe Today Lyrics
You try your hardest to perfect your explanations
You lie until they've run out of questions

You can only move as fast as those in front of you
And if you assume just like them, what good will it do?
So find out for yourself,so your ignorance will stop bleeding through

Only one thing
big enough to fill the void that's inside of you
It's just a breath away you can breathe today breathe today

So many lies swarming around you you're suffocating
The empty space in you
Steals your breath you're suffocating

Logic forces me to believe in this and now I've learned to see
I can only say what I've seen and heard and only you can choose
And every choice you make will affect you, search your own self

You can breathe today
So many lies swarming around you, you're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath you're suffocating

Big enough to fill the void that's inside of you
It's just a breath away

So many lies swarming around you you're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath you're suffocating

You can breathe today
Breathe today

this is an awesome song, and in a nut shell, i think 'tis about how the world can suffocate us. or how we let our relationships keep us from God, and they seem to keep us from breathing.

anyone know why the album version is shorter than this version of the song. The video version is longer also.

I don't understand why they would shorten a great song like this.

Yeah but the video version is only 2:54, while the album version is shortened to 2:31. This song is the shortest on the album.

Flyleaf has made two versions of this song: One on their EP, and one on their Album. The one on the EP (the Longer one) was recorded in a garage. (I think Flyleaf said that on Interview: I THINK). This was their first single, so they made a video for it.

Then they made another verion of this song (the shorter one, but recorded in a studio) The studio version sounds a little clearer. (which is why they picked that one to go on the Album)

And as far as Flyleaf being christian: They Are. They play Flyleaf on my local "Christian Rock" Radio Station, and their playing this song at my church (lol, they always play that kind of stuff)

Well Hopes this help.

oh ya, Here's the Lyrics to the Studio Version they made: Slightly Different, and they cut out they beggining of their Original EP Version, Here they Are:

You can only move as fast as
Who's in front of you
And if you assume
Just like them
What good will it do
So find out for yourself
So your ignorance
Will stop bleeding through

You can breathe today

So many lies swirling
All around you
You're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath
You're suffocating

Logic forces me to believe in this
And I have learned to see
And I can only say what I've seen and heard
And only you can choose
And every choice you make will effect you
Search your own self

You can breathe today

So many lies swirling
All around you
You're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath
You're suffocating

So many lies swirling
All around you
You're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath
You're suffocating

Breathe

Big enough to fill the void that's inside of you
It's just a breath away

So many lies swirling
All around you
You're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath
You're suffocating

So many lies swirling
All around you
You're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath

Breathe

So many lies swirling
All around you
You're suffocating
Breathe
The empty shape in you
Breathe today

It is a person who is full of sh** .. They say whatever to stay nuetral and get by . They pretty much lie to themselves and others .

They pretty much bury themselves with each new explanation they conjured up in their head..

i would break down this song piece by piece, but i think this one part sums it all up....

i believe.....
this song is about gettin saved.
"Only one thing (- gettin saved)
big enough to fill the void that's inside of you (frm personal expreience, this is BEYOND TRU!! gettin saved made/makes me think deeper, harder...differently... ya'll christians kno what i'm talkin about...)
It's just a breath away (O YEAH!! guys it really is... i believe i got saved on my bedroom floor listening to relient k's "when i go down". that night i asked/pleaded/begged for him to hold my hand..*silence*.. and he never lets go, guys.... )
you can breathe today breathe today (getitng saved is REALLY like takin ur first breath in ur new life. if u've ever seen death cab for cutie's MV "title and registration", it's like that. u've got 2 believe It to feel It and u KNO It when you feel It.)

GREAT SONG OVERALL!!!
MV was DEFINITLY anit-suicide (LUVED IT!!)
but what i'm REALLY amazed about htis band is their AMAZING sounds AND christian lyrics.........

when i first saw "i'm so sick" i was like...
"GOSH!! there goes another good female rocker who can beat guys at screaming but it sounds like she's screamin the wrong stuff...." but their interview confirmed that they kick butt AND sing christian lyrics simultanously....

crazy mad skills, man...

i'd DIE if i got 2 open a evanescense concert.....
which brings me 2 a ?...

is evanescene a christian band??

All their songs can be taken as different things, especially based just on the fact whether or not you are infact a Christian. I think with this song it can be just taken as being overwhelmed by everything then finding relief in something simple, or being fed up with something and discovering its imperfection.. for a Christian thats God but for anyone else, well its up to them really.

I love this song! It's really meaningful, seems to be about to stop suffocating and breath God in. This is the EP version, which I like anyways, better than the album version

To me, this song is about being saved.
Lacey's talking to someone who doesn't know the Lord.
I'm not sure if this is how it's intended, but a lot of my friends are athiests, and this song really relates to my life right now.

"So many lies swirling
All around you
You're suffocating
The empty shape in you
Steals your breath
You're suffocating"

I think that these lyrics are about the lies that people are surrounded with, and that breath is a metaphor for God and being saved, and the suffocating is a metaphor for the devil.

"Logic forces me to believe in this
And I have learned to see
And I can only say what I've seen and heard
And only you can choose
And every choice you make will effect you
Search your own self"

These lyrics are saying that no matter how hard you try to help someone know God and tell them about Him, only they can make the choice to believe.

"Big enough to fill the void that's inside of you
It's just a breath away"
I think this part is saying that God is so big, and he can fill you with His love if only you decide to take that breath and accept Jesus as your savoir.

Flyleaf isn't Christian band. They don't like to be labeled. They aren't a Christian band. They are just a band that happens to be full of Christians. They write and sing about the trials they've gone through and overcome in they're lives. God happens to be the center of what helped them through these trials so yeah your gonna find some Christian elements in they're music. That doesn't make them a "Christian" band. And you may be asking yourselves how I could know any of this. Well, I happen to know Lacey and Sameer so.........
