Here I am again talking to myself sitting at a red light
Both hands on the wheel, how am I supposed to feel, so much running through my mind
First you want to be free, now you say you need me, giving mixed signals and signs
It's so hard to let you in, thinking you might slam the breaks again

[Chorus]
Put the pedal down, heading outta town, gotta make a getaway
The traffic in my brain's driving me insane, this is more than I can take
You tell me that you love me first
Then throw your heart into reverse
I've gotta get away

I can't keep coming back to you every time you're in the mood
To whisper something sweet in my ear
It's so hard to move on, 'cause every time I think you're gone
You show up in my rear view mirror

Is this just a detour, 'cause I gotta be sure that you really mean what you say
It's so hard to let you in, thinking you might slam the breaks again

[Chorus]

To a place where I can be redefined
Where you're out of sight, and you're out of mind
But the truth is I can't even say goodbye

Here I am again talking to myself sitting at a red light
Both hands on the wheel, how am I supposed to feel, so much running through my mind

[Chorus]

General Comment:He keeps coming back to her, saying he loves/needs her, but then goes again and makes her think why on earth did I bother with him? Hmm yes. I love Hilary - she should have released this song.

General Comment:Perhaps she's in a relationship, and there's this guy who keeps doing her over, and she knows she;s gotta move on but she's stuck on him. "Everytime I think you're gone, you show up in my rearview mirror". Everytime she thinks shes over him he shows up and she realises how deep she feels but she knows hes no good for her, she HAS to move on.

LOL. I could apply that to a situation I used to be in.

General Comment:Correction to the lyrics...in the chorus, it's "put the [i]pedal[/i] down," not paddle. It goes along with all the other metaphors in the song comparing driving to relationships.
