I was lookin' for the main line when I was
Workin' through a friend of mine but I
Couldn't seem to find the time
What do they know about love
What do they know about love
What do they know about love
What do they know about love
The Jingle of a Dog's Collar would be good right here
The Jingle of a Dog's Collar would be fine
The Jingle of a Dog's Collar would be good right here
The Jingle of a Dog's Collar would be fine
What do they know about love
What do they know about love
What do they know about love my friend
What do they know about love
The Jingle of a Dog's Collar would be good right here
I was looking for the main line when I was
workin' for a friend of mine
What do they know about love
What do they know about love

General Comment:However convoluted and cryptic you were hoping these lyrics to be, I'm pretty sure this dog collar was meant to be worn by a dog.

"What do they know about love" if he's talking about a dog is a comparison between romantic love--which can be fleeting and/or hard to come by--with the love between a dog and its human.

I assume something went wrong or got complicated in the area of romantic love, and the narrator went to discuss the matter with his dog--but the narrator might just be reminiscing about a dog that had since passed.

General Comment:To me jingle of a dogs collar is the sound you hear if your dog gets away, then you call him and he comes to you, you feel relief as you hear the jingling of his collar, indicating that he is coming back. It seems like this song is about a loved one leaving, and then hoping for them to come back to you.

General Comment:I always thought the jingle of a dog's collar would sound good at that particular point in the song, so you'd imagine what it would sound like. Maybe Gibby wanted to add a dog's collar to the mix, but they wouldn't let him, so he wanted to point out that it belonged there.
The rest of the lyrics seem to be about heroin, so maybe Gibby sees himself as conditioned like Pavlov's dogs.

General Comment:Everytime I hear "Come As You Are," all I can hear is "A jingle of a dog's collar would be fine." Musically, it's very similar. And I'm glad somebody else noticed it.

General Comment:when i first heard the song it reminded me of the song "life is shit" by the dead milkmen, just the way they both say 'friend of mine'

General Comment:Cobain was known to be a Butthole Surfers fan, according to wikipedia he even met Courtney Love on a BS gig. Not sure about that though because I've seen a video where Thurston Moore introduces Kurt to Courtney on one or another festival.

That being said, I don't seee much connection between this song and come as you are... .
