Lyrics for Calendar Girl as interpreted by foxiliary

Calendar Girl Lyrics
if I am lost for a day
try to find me,
but if i don't come back
then i won't look behind me.
all of the things i thought were so easy
just got harder and harder each day

december is darkest,
and june is the light.
but this empty bedroom won't make anything right.
and out on the landing
a friend i forgot to send home
who waits up for me all through the night.

chorus:
calendar girl, whos in love with the world
stay alive (x2)

i dreamed i was dying
as i so often do;
and when i awoke
i was sure it was true.
i ran to the window
threw my head to the sky,
and said whoever is up there, please don't let me die

i can't live forever.
i can't always be.
one day i'll be sand on the beach by the sea;
the pages keep turning, i'll mark off each day with a cross
and i'll laugh about all that we've lost.

2nd chorus:
calendar girl, who is lost to the world
stay alive (x2)

closing chorus:
January Febuary March April May, I'm alive
June July August September October, I'm alive
November December, yeah all through the winter
I'm alive (x2)

i love this song. i think it's about how hard it is to keeping going each day, but you keep trying anyway. i feel like it's a reminder that despite all hardships, it's good to be alive, and that we must just get through and move ahead of the bad things and learn to laugh at our mistakes.

I think the whole message of this song is...

Life isn't short, and the relationships we have will last for years and years, and they could mean more than any petty problems that temporarily bring us down.

Yep. :)

I saw the Stars a little while ago and they played this song, it was amazing.

This song always makes me think about a girl that loves life and is happy but the weight of the world keeps increasing and making things harder for her.

I love this song.
I always thought the girl doesn't take life seriously, but when thinking about dying she can't bear the thought of leaving. But then again she knows she can't fight dying, so why take it seriously after all? I love the beginning when she says "If I am lost for a day try to find me, but if I don't look back then I won't look behind me." I always took that as if she's telling somebody or maybe even life itself.. that she would love to have his/hers/its company.. but at the same time she won't linger.
Or maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about.
Either way, good song... Amy's voice is beyond amazing.

to me, this song is about a girl with a disease with x amount of time to live and shes thankful for each day shes alive and shes spared, so she marks off each day shes spared with x's, and she dreams shes dying because the doctors told her she would? i dont know, thats what i interpreted when i heard it. then she starts naming off the months, thankful shes lived through them.

After having come from a psych. hospital for overdosing (the second time), I listened to this song closely for the first time; it made me hopeful about living again.

I agree with I am a little rose

December Is Darkest/In June Is The Light..

Because if they said december is darkest....june having no light would make no sense

or maybe they're talking about SAD? It's a depression that kicks in the colder months when there's like no sun......

This song is beautiful. I agree that it's about hope and a new found love of life. It also helps to have supportive friends who care. You shouldn't wait around for death to claim you.

This song makes me sad and happy at the same time. Stars are amazing. I needed to say that.

I think this song is about a girl who enjoys life without really pondering any meaning to it. Then she realises that it's not always wonderful and that she must die one day. "calendar girl, whos in love with the world" and then it changes to "calendar girl, who is lost to the world". So, maybe she just realised how much sadness there is, so she has to live it to her fullest. I don't know, something. This song is beautiful.

I think the song is about loving life and be scared of death. Death is so uncertain, it can happen at any time and when things are going well you certainly don't want to lose life.

I love this song.
It only puts my feelings on paper and who I am.
I love life, I think it is incredibly beautiful but the world can be so scary and sad due to all the horrible things that go on.
The girl is in love with the beauty of the world, ie the sky, flowers, simple things. She is lost in the world because she is scared of the people in it.

I agree with the theory of someone whos dying.

"all of the things i thought were so easy
just got harder and harder each day"
It could mean anything.
If shes dying ... then it could be due to her illness, she can't do as much anymore.

and the title "calender girl" meaning that she has x number of days to live. and she counts down untill shes supposed to die.

"
i dreamed i was dying
as i so often do;
and when i awoke
i was sure it was true.
i ran to the window
threw my head to the sky,
and said whoever is up there, please don't let me die"
Shes praying to God, to help her through it.

and the chorus' all fit.

"calender girl whos in love with the world, stay alive"
telling her to try and stay alive, because theres so much in the world that she loves.

Overall this song is amazing, and I personally feel that Stars are amazing aswell.

"but this empty bedroom won't make anything right."
She feels alone and abandoned.

Maybe it's just part of my tendency to relate any song I hear to my personal problems, but I take this song as being about a relationship fight.

"if I am lost for a day/try to find me/but if I don't come back/then I won't look behind me"

I think this means that the person is having doubts about the relationship, and wants the other person to kind of show them a way they can work things out. However, if it turns out there's no way they can work things out, then the first person must admit that their relationship can't be saved, and they must move on.

"all of the things I thought were so easy/just got harder and harder each day"

If they live together, then going through all the same routines, seeing each other every day; these things would get harder and harder if one person was doubting the relationship, and subconsciously wanted out.

Unfortunately, I can't get too much along those lines from the rest of the song, but I thought it'd be nice to share my views.

Now if only I can work out my personal problem...

I think this is a song about a girl who's different. she feels totally alienated from the rest of humanity. I think she finds a lot of beauty in living, even though she's all alone. Her fear of being alone causes her to dream about dying and when she thinks about leaving the beauty of the world behind she can't stand the though. She loves the world, but is misunderstood.

i think it shows how she is separate from the world by the like:
'calendar girl, who is lost to the world'
she's 'lost' to the world because they don't understand her.

i think the friend on the landing is her gaurdian or something like that. or someone who wants to get to know her, but can't.

The lines: 'all of the things I thought were so easy/just got harder and harder each day' illustrate how hard it is to be okay with being separate from everyone else to the point where it seemed really futile.

i think this song is really hopeful. it really made me feel connected with someone. i love this song.

It's about a girl who is suddenly realizing how limited her living days are, (maybe she does have a disease, like some of you said), and there are so many things she wants to do but time's running out. The friend on the porch is someone from her life with her old perspective, but the friend doesn't mean as much to her anymore.

She also realizes life is too short to wait for people to do what you want.

the song can mean anything. it all depends on the one listening. i'd like to think this song says that despite having all the problems in the world, you'd still have a reason to be happy - because you're alive. you get the chance to choose to be happy or not. I LOVE ITTTTTTTTT ;)

I love the little sigh at the beginning. Her voice is so pure.
I think that whether it's talking about a critical illness, depression, whatever, it really just means hope. Keep living, it's going to get better. I love it.
