Try as he might
He's unable to speak
He grabs her by the hair
He strokes her on the cheek

The bed is un-made
Like everything is
Dark little heaven
At the top of the stairs

Take me like that
Ruin it all
Then build it again
By the light in the hall

He drops to his knees
Says please my love, please
I'll kill who you hate
Take off that dress, you won't freeze

One more night, that was a good one
One more night, I dreamed it was good one (one more)
One more night, that was a good one
One more night, the end should be a good one
A good one

He starts with her back
Cause that's what he sees
When she's breaking his heart
She still fucks like a tease

Release to the sky
Look him straight in the eye
And tell him right now
That you wish he would die

You'll never touch him again
So get what you can
Bleeding him empty
Just because he's a man

So good when it ends
They'll never be friends
One more night
That's all they can spend is

One more night, that was a good one
One more night, I dreamed it was good one (one more)
One more night, that was a good one
One more night, the end should be a good one
A good one

Lyric Correction:small thought- it might be "bleeding him empty" instead of leaving?

My Interpretation:This song to me is all about how their relationship cannot go on any longer, but for one more night they can love each other and be together. Their is a contrast in their relationship in which they are loving and caring towards each other but it such a rough way. "He grabs her by the hair, strokes her on the cheek", "I'll kill who you hate, take off that dress you won't freeze." To me it's about closure, letting go of someone that you know you can't be with, even though you still have feelings for them.

General Comment:It's not about rape, it's not about break-up sex; it's the continuation of Your Ex-Lover is Dead. Hence the title containing "Your Ex-Lover Remains Dead".

Consider the meaning of "Your Ex-Lover is Dead". It's about two people who once dated a long time ago and now have re-met. These people both got into a taxi together, and the song ends with both agreeing they aren't sorry the relationship is over, however they don't part ways.

Instead, as "One More Night" shows, they decide to spend one more night together, despite being broken up ages ago. The imagery towards the end of the song even makes it sound like revenge sex, as in "Your Ex-Lover is Dead", she was hurt more than him (who doesn't even remember her name) regarding the break up, and now she's "leaving him empty", and telling him she would "wish that he'd die". While he wants it as he "drops to his knees", begging for her.

It's not rape because they both want it and they're both being hurt by it and it's not break-up sex because they're already broken up. It's the return to an old relationship for meaningless/casual sex, but it turns out to mean more than was intended.

My Interpretation:I may be completely off but I don't think this is just about "breakup sex" but more so about the woman ending the affair she's having with this guy. The sex is good and rough (lol) in the act of adultery but she's in a relationship and is choosing that over the affair since she knows it's wrong.
They have "gotta end the affair/goodbye sex" He still wants her, and possibly wants her to stay with him - hence the lines "while she's breaking his heart, she still fucks like a tease" and "you'll never touch him again, so leave while you can. Leaving him empty, just because he's a man."
It's also like the guy is giving her either an option to stay or to leave and "we'll never be friends." and obviously it doesn't continue.
"one more night, the end should be a good one."

I may be completely off, and it might be me saying this out of being in a similar predicament, but that's my take on it.

General Comment:I absolutely adore this song, though I've always imagined a slightly different, darker twist to the meaning than what has been previously posted. The song seems to be sung by the two lovers in the story, each telling his or her own side of the story, but mostly from third person to kind of detach themselves from it. It starts with the girl describing being with her boyfriend, with whom she seems to be caught in a controlling relationship she wants to get out of -

"He grabs her by the hair, he strokes her on the cheek"

She wants to leave him, but him being who he is, he won't let go without a fight and keeps trying to convince her that she should stay, at the very least spend one more night with him -

"He drops to his knees, says, 'Please, my love, please
I'll kill who you hate, take off that dress, you won't freeze'"

"Take me like that, ruin it all
Then build it again, by the light in the hall" -
Sounds to me like he's getting to her and ruining her resolve to leave, twisting her emotions once again and making her recall the bit of affection that she still has left for him at the end of a dead relationship. The second line seems like a bit of foreshadowing of what's to come, when everything is done and he reminds her again of why she wants to leave.

So she gives in and ends up having sex with him one last time, but by the end she's ashamed and angry that he drew her back in, so as soon as the moment dies down she tries to make up for it by getting in the last word -
"And tell him, right now, that you wish he would die"

And at this point we've switched to the man's point of view. He realizes she really does want to leave and quickly goes from desperate to angry, and in a last effort to get her to come back he starts arguing, throwing every remark he can think of to make himself look like the victim and make her feel bad for leaving -
"When she's breaking his heart, she still fucks like a tease"
    and
"You'll never touch him again, so get what you can
Leaving him empty, just because he's a man"

But she still doesn't change her mind, leaving them both to accept that the relationship is dead and they've gone through too much to be friends afterward; all they have left is the one last night they spent together.

Well, whatever it means, it's a beautiful song, and its lyrics are absolutely perfect. They are really a fantastic band.

General Comment:This song is definitely about break up sex, let's take a look line by line.

"Try as he might, he's unable to speak
He grabs her by the hair, he strokes her on the cheek" - He's emotional, he knows this is probably it, and he's not sure what to say, he's a little mad at her so he grabs her by the hair, he's being rough but he still cares, that softness is still there so he strokes her on the cheek.

"The bed is unmade, like everything is
Dark little heaven at the top of the stairs
Take me like that, ruin it all
Then build it again, by the light in the hall" - Just describing the setting, upstairs in a dark bedroom, the only light is coming from the hall. The bed isn't made, it's a mess just like their relationship. She's letting him take control, perhaps like she did in the relationship and he made a mess of it, "then build it again" to me is talking about her orgasms, I think he took her once roughly and then brought her again maybe more delicately this time (in reference to the contrast between being rough and delicate already stated.)

He drops to his knees, says, "Please, my love, please
I'll kill who you hate, take off that dress, you won't freeze" -When he was finally able to speak he tells her he'll change, he won't ruin things again, he thinks sex will fix things between them, might convince her to stay.

"One more night, that was a good one
One more night, I dreamed it was good one (one more)
One more night, that was a good one
One more night, the end should be a good one
A good one " -This could either be sarcastic as if it wasn't really but they'll pretend it was. Or perhaps it was a good one, if my theory of her reaching climax at least twice is correct then perhaps it wasn't so bad, the 2nd verse also indicates this, and for all they had in a relationship maybe one last good one is fitting for them, perhaps sex is all they had that was good?

"He starts with her back, because thats what he sees
When she's breaking his heart, she still fucks like a tease" - When she takes off her dress, she had turned around. She didn't wan't to look at him, but was willing to give it a shot. So that's where he starts kissing, from experience that generally gets a good reaction from a woman so I'd say that it got her more into it than she was at the start.

"Release to the sky, look him straight in the eye
And tell him, right now, that you wish he would die
You'll never touch him again, so get what you can" -At some point she's on top, she looks up to the ceiling as she orgasms, then finally looks him straight in the eye, perhaps for the first time since the whole thing started. I think she hates him because the sex was always good between them, and she'll miss that... he knew that to begin with, perhaps she thinks he only wanted to f*ck her good so she'd have that as a last memory so to speak.

"Leaving him empty, just because he's a man
So good when it ends, they'll never be friends
One more night, thats all they can spend in" -In the end she is going to leave, and he's going to be hurt worse, left empty. But it was better off for them both now that it's ended. Unfortunately this is where I really see the tragicness of this relationship, whatever that spark was between them originally and even there at the very end. It's the kind of spark that can't be "just friends" with someone it has to be more, wants and yearns and craves to be more so in the end they can't remain friends... it's just too hard for them to see each other, they'll always think back to that last night together and all that could have been but will never be again.

General Comment:Personally I always thought this song was after Your Ex-Lover is Dead, because I think of it this way. . .in your ex-lover is dead its like the former lovers bump into eachother randomly
with their new lovers, whether it be in the city at a restaurant whatever. And then the guy doesn't remember her and says "yes I think we've met before." then they capture a taxi with eachother and their new love but the whole time the guy is still trying to remember. They part ways and then he remembers that last night they had together and how that was their last parting and how wonderfully bittersweet it was. He couldn't remember her because he tried to block her out of his memory from that last painful moment they spent together. Sex.

General Comment:This song is about a girl breaking a boy's heart.
and his begging her to stay at the start when he says "i'll kill who you hate"
and then i think he just wants to have one more night with her cause its the best he can get.
he tells her to take her dress off and they have sex,
she knows she wont touch him again and they'll never be friends.
for some reason she tells him to die i think thats because she regrets sleeping with him.
