every moment that you're here
i feel lashes on my ear
subtle difference disappears

i used to think about
you and me forever
improper medicine for you and me together
do you want to shoulder this weather?
i'm inspired by the things that upset her
you're no measure

every mormon and every saint
let out the ashes, uproot the graves
a million fallen, in a million ways

i used to think about
you and me forever
improper medicine for you and me together
do you want to do this forever?
i'm inspired by the things that upset her
this is how men are measured

every moment

General Comment:I find it interesting that no one mentions the fact that he mentions the LDS or 'mormon' faith.

It is their belief that when they marry in the the temple that they are married for time and all eternity. Perhaps this song has to do with the lapse of faith, and the cause of the destruction of a relationship because of it?

General Comment:^Agreed. I could never really write songs like this. However, I really love this song. It's incredible. I hate to be this guy, but does anyone know where I could get tabs to this? Or chords or something? I wanna learn to play it so bad but I can't figure it out.

General Comment:so far no one here can agree on the interpretation which goes to show how really good this lyricist is. Its pretty hard for me to write a simple song, I just dont know how they get so complex and mystical..

General Comment:I agree with craigatkinson... It's all about sacrifices. "Every moment that you're here I feel ashes on my ear".. It says that one always sacrificing for the other. And is it really worth it? I agree with the mormon correlation with martydom. That millions have fallen and made sacrifices for something that they love. Is it worth it? Do you want to do this forever?

    General Comment:da_user,
You run the risk of egregious error anytime you try to interpret someone's cryptic writing, and I'll probably only had to it's cryptic nature.
Relationship's require a leap of faith since there is no possibility of knowing what will come of it. Mormon's and Saint's have a history of Martyrdom, each proving his/her faith with their life. Uncertainty is the essence of romance, and by choosing one person requires both sacrificing the uncertainty in both the relationship and your life. That require's a sort of faith analogous to that of a Martyr. Once that decision has been made faith is the only hope for the relationship to continue, and that require's one to learn true love. True love being a conscious choice that is made at every moment of one's life.

General Comment:It's about process philosophy reconciling scientific naturalism and religion. According to whitehead, every moment has intrinsic value, contributes to the future of other beings in the universe, and contributes to the life of god, hence the mormon reference. .... just kidding, sorry, I'm bored and studying. when i heard this in class though, the 'every moment' part, all i could think about for the rest of the time was this song. saw them in concert -- best live performance/sound i've ever experienced.
