Lyrics for Not Half Right as interpreted by Fenrir171

Not Half Right Lyrics
Well you shouldn't doctor yourself
Well I pictured somebody else
Someone who looks like
What I look like

Would you say that the one of your dreams
Got in you and ripped out the seems
That's what I'd say
That's what I'd say

He was a sucker for your double dose
Motherfucker turned white as a ghost
Don't you say hi
Don't you say hi

With a broken sink for a face
And a head that just takes up space
He's not half right
He's not half right

Its already half past
And it won't last

I was sticking up for my friend
But theres nothing much to defend
It's a lost fight
It's a lost fight

'Cause when I talk to you on the phone
Well it's just like being alone
It's not half right
It's not half right

I love this song so much
it's one of my favorites...
I could listen to it over and over

my favorite lines are "would you say that the one of your dreams got in you and ripped out the seams? That's what I'd say.."
how many times has that happened to just about everyone? People are shallow, empty-minded, and selfish.

"'Cause when I talk to you on the phone
Well it's just like being alone
It's not half right
It's not half right"

hit me with speechlessness

The JEW cover sounds pretty much the same as the Heatmiser version, I don't know why it'd make you sick that they covered the song. They didn't butcher it or anything.

jimmy eat world suck poo they are no talent scum who have to steal other peoples music to make some money. The fact that it sounds exactly the same as the heatmiser song makes it even worse they copied it exactly

jeeze guys, calm down.

Be happy that the *ahem* "no talent scum" brought new people to appreciate heatmiser....sure it probably won't mean the same to them as it does to you, but does it ever??? for anyone?

This reminds me of my best friend. we drifted apart and it all just seemed to fall apart. I found this song via JEW.. and I'm really grateful to them for this.. So no bad words against them please. I also looked into the rest of heatmisers's stuff because of their covers and quotes in songs.. :)
Awesome song.

JEW is NOT "no talent scum", come to think of it, the band of which you are named after "Stray Light Run" Is no talent scum. Now that we've cleared that little problem up, This song seems to be about a friend of a rather brash guy that breaks the girl's heart and walks out on her, and so now shes crushed, hence the verse "Well it's just like being alone" she can't even speak to her friend anymore because of what his friend did to her. And the JEW version is also very beautiful, and Elliott Smith himself was a fan of some of JEWs earlier stuff, so stop the bashing.

So, uh, I don't really feel like bitching about the relative merits of Heatmiser, JEW or Straylight Run, but I've always thought that this song is about the singer and a friend becoming estranged over the friend's drug use ("He was a sucker for your double dose" and "A head that just takes up space"). Also, Elliott Smith did a gorgeous acoustic version of this solo on the "New Moon" compilation of his unreleased stuff. Soooo good.

i agreee with anemptyroon.... i have this song live performed by elliott smith and also i have it from new moon and heatmiser version too :]
i used to go to sleep with this song... the lyrics are beautiful...

in such a beautiful song, why are so many people fighting in the comments??! i'd wish to tell you all to keep your discriminative comments to the least, because when you see somebody who appreciates the good music act like this around it, it's huge shame to everyone.

I don't think 'Not Half Right' exists anywhere and it's just a mixup that never goes away.
