Lyrics for The cloud prayer as interpreted by Kurt Russell

The cloud prayer Lyrics
You don't think that I tried for you?
I went into disguise for you.
So, of course, almost no one knew.
You don't think there was payment due?
I blew up in the sky for you.
Anyone who saw it knew.
But did you, didn't you ever wonder,
Maybe if you were under your own spell?
Thinking it was all she wrote, thinking it was all she wrote,
Thinking it was all the words ever written.
So, of course, almost no one knew x 2

This one is just different from all the rest on the album...definitely my favourite, though. I love the way he plays disguise and the sky, and with the theme of the cloud...I have no idea what the song is about, but the sweet and bitter feeling is spellbinding.

Carl tried explaining this song live in San Fran once... I don't have any clue, though, either.

for me this song is about doing everything for someone that weren't great fantastical public proclamations of love, things that are what actually make a relationship work. the protagonist (douchey word choice i know but i dont want to assume carl is writing confessional lyrics) is exhausted and tired trying to make the relationship works that he sort of resents the other person because he feels like what he's doing isn't enough but he can't help it ("didn't you ever wonder maybe if you were under your own spell...thinking it was all she wrote). it's dependency at its most wrought and because of that it is the most illogical actions and insecure thoughts that keep us on our toes when we are "in love". i could be wrong.
