Lyrics for Dance, Dance, Christa Paffgen as interpreted by redgrindle

Dance, Dance, Christa Paffgen Lyrics
She's got the time, says she's got time on her side
Running the room
Commanding the late boys' eyes
She runs around, knows all the streets by name
So mysterious, shadows meet James Dean
She's intoxication, soon your favorite drink
Your black dress in disarray
Only dance floor prayers can save
Temperatures rise and I start to move
But it's you that's coursing through my veins
Says she's got hope
Took shelter to the Hollywood list, taking control
Wanted my heart bu I gave her my soul
She's like a Page Davis with a Monroe kiss
Disappeared today, left no trace
But someday I'll know your name
Don't need no drugs, you're my chemical
Now I'm dependent, swear I'm clinical
Addicated to those glances, taking chances tonight
I need a fix in those heroin eyes
She's no saint but she'll take you to your knees
Try her boy, but she'll still do what she please
Do you believe in science? She's perfect chemistry
She wanted my love but I gave her the rest of me
Dear Stephen Patrick:
You'll adore me before the night is over
If London's calling don't you dare pick up the phone
Only you entwined
could make this orphan feel at home
Lips that need no introduction, but now waiting for your call, if picture's worth a thousand words
Then your touch is worth them all

"Dear Stephen Patrick"

wtf? That's not even in the song... the only thing close to that I can think of is right at the end where it says "Don't Leave Us In The Dark"

this song is marvelous. but i'm not exactly in love with the way it was posted :( i like it when the chorus repeats.

i too am rather confused by the "Dear Stephen Patrick" seeing as how it's in the liner but not in the song...
so beautiful.

"Wanted my heart bu I gave her my soul"
Amazing. I love that.

I also was confused about the Stephen patrick thing.
It's like there being a "(You said 'to write a song about it. So here's your song..)" at the beginning of "Never take friendship personal". I never hear it.. =/

when he put that thing about you told me to write on song about it so here's your song.. he is actually telling that to the person he wrote it too.. which i believe is the band memeber that left.. he was upset/angry.. whatever about it.. so he told him.. and he said.. here's the song i wrote about it.. never intended for the song

Here is my take on the Dear Stephen Patrick thing. Ok everything written before that is about a girl. So I beleive that the song was set so that it was like this Stephen guy is sing this song or wrote all this about this girl. I believe that when it gets to the dear Stephen Pratrick part I beileve that is the girl responed back to what was just written about her. Also one other thing the lead singers name is Stephen Christian. Well many people change their names when they get into spotlight. So maybe his real name was Stephan Patrick instead of Stephan Christian and this was about a real relationship he had with a girl and maybe that dear part was a letter she wrote to him.

Alright, first of all, it's obvious that "Dear Stephen Patrick" is not part of the song.
Christa Paffgen was Stephen Christian's crush one year. She went by "Nico." She was the lead singer of the rock group "Velvet Underground" in the 1960's. Her career began to fail, though, as she became addicted to heroin. She died of brain hemorrhage in 1988.

Nice research BluFire - after that bit of info, you gotta love how Stephen intergrated heroin in the song. He probably wants it to be taken as heroine - like a female hero, but using the whole heroin (as a drug and addiction) to illustrate how he is so hooked on her and her "glances". Genious.

My favorite line has to be... 'If London's calling don't you dare pick up the phone." That's been my ringtone for my boyfriend for the longest time.

honestly, before i read all of that stuff i thought this song was about a prostitute. go back and read it and it makes sense.

"Commanding the late boys' eyes
She runs around, knows all the streets by name
So mysterious, shadows meet James Dean
She's intoxication, soon your favorite drink
Your black dress in disarray"

knowing the streets by name... prostitutes work the streets, commanding the late boys eyes, obviously would be her clientelle, and your black dress in disarry... well im not gonna go into detail. but its another viewpoint on it. thought yall might be interested. and yes i know, they are a christian band so why would they write about a prostitute... buy why not?

Perhaps this song is about both prostitution and the real Christa Paffgen. It could be to display the negative effects of drugs and sex outside of marriage and the slavery that they enforce upon humans:
"Only you entwined
could make this orphan feel at home
Lips that need no introduction, but now waiting for your call, if picture's worth a thousand words
Then your touch is worth them all"
Eventually Christa Paffgen dies of a heart attack and internal bleeding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christa_Paffgen#Death), possibly as a result of years of heroin use.

But whatever the meaning, this is simply an amazing song.

I thought it was about a promiscuous girl. Not a prostitute per se. But that does make sense. I don't know there's just something magical about that though, the way they make it sound.

I love this song though. Especially the line "You'll adore me before the night is over" and the line "If a picture's worth a thousand words then your touch is worth them all." But I believe I already said that above (RaisedonRadio is me.)

Well to add to this whole conversation I checked wiki like jeffiealex said and it got really interesting. According to wiki (which is allllways true *snicker*) Christa lived a lifestyle similar to that of the girl in the song.
Also she died because of internal bleeding in her brain when she fell of her bike during a heart attack (must have been a steep hill) sorry I shouldn't joke about that, bad habit. Anyway in one of her later songs; Heroin she sang this: "And that blood is in my head/Then thank God that I'm as good as dead." freaky huh? In terms of the true song meaning go ask the band.
