Thinkin' 'bout thinkin' of you
Summertime think it was June
Yeah, I think it was June
Layin' back head on the grass
Chewing gum havin' some laughs
Yeah, havin' some laughs
You make me feel like the one
Make me feel like the one
The one
Drinkin' by drinkin' for two
Drinkin' with you
When drinkin' was new
Sleepin' in the back of my car
We never went far
We didn't need to go far
[Chorus]
You make me feel like the one
Make me feel like the one
The one
You make me feel like the one
Make me feel like the one
The one
I don't know where we are going now
I don't know where we are going now
Wake up call coffee and juice
Remembering you
What happened to you?
I wonder if we'll meet again
Talk about life since then
Talk about why did it end
[Chorus]
I don't know where we are going now
I don't know where we are going now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now, now.
Summertime think it was June
Yeah, I think it was June
Layin' back head on the grass
Chewing gum havin' some laughs
Yeah, havin' some laughs
You make me feel like the one
Make me feel like the one
The one
Drinkin' by drinkin' for two
Drinkin' with you
When drinkin' was new
Sleepin' in the back of my car
We never went far
We didn't need to go far
[Chorus]
You make me feel like the one
Make me feel like the one
The one
You make me feel like the one
Make me feel like the one
The one
I don't know where we are going now
I don't know where we are going now
Wake up call coffee and juice
Remembering you
What happened to you?
I wonder if we'll meet again
Talk about life since then

[Chorus]
I don't know where we are going now
I don't know where we are going now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now
So take a look at me now, now.

The first verse is about him remembering them going out and having fun throughout the summer.
The chorus says how special she made him feel.
Second verse is about drinking alcohol (the lyrics: "When drinkin' was new" proves that they must be young, as most people drink for the first time in there teens). The "we never went far" part is supposed to be taken two ways:
1. they didn't drive far,
2. they didn't have sex, or do many things together (as your first relationships tend to be quite boring).
After the second chorus, he gets dumped, and doesn't know what to do (whether to be friends with her, try again in a relationship, ignore her or move on), basically, he's confused.
The third verse is him remembering her, and wondering what went wrong, wondering where she is in life now, and wondering if they could of worked things out again, instead of ignoring each others feelings.
He's still confused and doesn't know what to do about her, but he moved on to better things, and improved.
Overall, the whole song is someone reminiscing good times he had with his first love, presumably called "Dakota", what a song as well :) just went through the exact same thing (summer relationship, i'm 16), hope i cleared things up for everyone :P
I think that the reminiscing back is waaaay back to his youth:
"Drinking back drinking for two,
Drinking with you,
When drinking was new."
He was so young when drinking was still new to him and with chewing gum and laughs and I think he's a little sad that now he's all grown up "So take a look at me now!" He wants that simplistic relationship back.
Summer time think it was June,
Yeah I think it was June.
Laying back head on the grass,
Chewing gum, having some laughs,
Yeah having some laughs'
He's reminiscing back to when he was with this girl, obviously in June. The things they did & the time they spent together.
'You made me feel like the one,
You made me feel like the one,
The one'
When he was with this girl she made him feel so special, like he was really wanted. I can relate to that a lot, as im sure most people can as some time or another.
'Drinking back drinking for two,
Drinking with you,
When drinking was new.
Sleeping in the back of my car,
We never went far,
We wouldn't need to go far'
He's again remembering the things they did together. When they discovered drinking together, which to me implies it was a romance when they were younger. When he says they didn't need to go far, he's implying that all they needed was each others company.
'I don't know where we are going now,
I don't know where we are going now'
He's wondering if anything will ever become of him & that girl again.
Wake up call, coffee and juice,
Remembering you, what happened to you.
I wonder if we'll meet again,
And talk about life since then,
And talk about why did it end'
I think this is basically saying that he hopes they'll meet again one day & talk about why things ended between them & hopefully work something out for the future. He clearly still thinks very highly of this girl. Perhaps he hadn't met anyone like her up to then & hasn't done since.
'So take a look at me now!
So take a look at me now!
So take a look at me now!
So take a look at me now!
So take a look at me now!'
Maybe the reason the relationship ended was because she didn't believe he was making enough of himself? Now he's saying look where I ended up.
The impression I get is that maybe the relationship ended quite sourly. The one thing I adore about this song is that it's so upbeat but it clearly has such a sad meaning. He clearly still thinks the world of the woman & would do anything to have something like they what they had back then... Something anyone can relate to at one point or another, a definite good summer romance tune!
xx
i agree, this song is showing how he is over that girl now and he want's her to see that, but yet again i think that still a part of him still isn't, other wise he won't be saying these things to her. i guess in many broken relationships it's exactly the same, they want to show the other that it's all over and they have moved on, to get on top of each other....
I even listened to this DURING the mad love phase so yesss it will always be about that boy :D I love it because I can take this song literally: we DID lie on the grass, YES IT WAS JUNE, chewing gum and having some laughs.
And I'd like to think the lyrics are "wake up call, coffee and juice" because I indeed one summer used to call him in the morning (he told me to do that so he'd wake up for real and not go back to sleep) and go around to his place to drink coffee and juice.
Then things got really fucked up. I wonder if I'll see him again. So take a look at me now.
Sucks eh
stereophonics are genius.
