I'm goin' up the country, baby don't you want to go?
I'm goin' up the country, baby don't you want to go?
I'm goin' to some place where I've never been before
I'm goin' where the water tastes like wine
I'm goin' where the water tastes like wine
We can jump in the water, stay drunk all the time
I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
I'm gonna leave this city, got to get away
All this fussin' and fightin' man, you know I sure can't stay
Now, baby pack your leavin' trunk
You know we've got to leave today
Just exactly where we're goin' I cannot say
But we might even leave the U.S.A.
'Cause it's a brand new game and I want to play
No use in your runnin', or screamin' and cryin'
'Cause you got a home as long as I've got mine

It's not that his voice changes, the band had two singers at this time period- Bob "The Bear" Hite (who had the deeper voice) and guitar/harmonica player Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson also song (he sings on this song among many pthers)
And to all the sellout comments, both of the people who I mentioned above were dead by the late 70s, and the only remaining original member in the band is drummer Fito De La Parra.
Also, this song epitomizes, like no other, the summer of love / flower power era that was 1967. This songe, as well as the mood among young folk back then, was all about checking out of "proper" society and all the stress and strife that entails; and about leaving it all behind for mother nature and a simpler life filled with drugs, little stress, no fuss, peace and love.
By the 1980s, like the true hypocrites they were, they all sold out.
Just so you guys know.
(FYI: the lead singers voice isn't always this high pitched, he actually has a fairly deep voice)
