I am just a cowboy, lonesome in the trail.
Starry night, campfire light, and the coyote calls where the howlin' winds will.
So I ride out to the ol' sundown. I am just a cowboy, lonesome on the trail.
Lord I'm just thinking about a certain female.
And the nights we spent together, riding on the range.
Looking back, it doesn't seem so strange.

Roll me over and turn me around. Let me keep spinning 'til I hit the ground.
Roll me over and let me go, riding in the rodeo.

I was took in Texas, I did not know her name.
But Lord all these southern girls, they seem the same.
But down below the border, in a town in Mexico,
I got my job busting broncs for the rodeo.

Roll me over ans turn me around, let me keep spinnin till I hit the ground.
Roll me over and let me go, running free with the buffalo.

Roll me over, and I'll turn around.
And I'll move my fingers up and down.
Up and down.

It's ok amigo, just let me go.
Riding in the rodeo.

Roll me over and turn me around, let me keep spinning till I hit the ground.
Roll me over and let me go, riding in the rodeo.
Roll me over and set me free, the cowboy's life is the life for me.

General Comment:Nobody has mentioned but errr........ I think the song could actually be about funny business, not just about cowboys......

"I am just cowboy lonesome on the trail
Lord, I'm just thinking about a certain female
The nights we spent together riding on the range"

    RIP Phil

General Comment:one of my favourites too, a band i was in used to cover this/boys are back in town, like on live n dangerous, it was well fun to play.
and you know he's irish because on live n dangerous at one point he says something like "any girls in the audience got any irish in em?....would you like a little more?"

General Comment:Who the hell cares where you were born? His mom was Irish and his dad was Brazilian. No English to be found. I know Americans that were born in Germany and Italy...does this make them German and Italian??? I would say no.

Anyway awesome song though. Lynott is a god.

General Comment:Phil Lynott may have been born in Birmingham put that doesn't mean he was English. He said so himself he considered himself Irish in every way. Phil Lynott is IRELAND and thats that. By the way unreal song tha live and dangerous version is one the greatest songs of all time('',)

General Comment:My friends used to laugh at me for liking this song. I still think it's one of the greatest songs ever recorded. I don't even think the west or cowboys are cool, this song is just that good, it makes me look past the obvious ridiculousness of a half-black brit singing about cowboys and riding bulls and all that.

I think the meaning of this song is pretty clear: Phil Lynot wants to be a cowboy. Yes, the lyrics are a little silly, but when that second guitar solo comes in, I crap my pants every time.

General Comment:Lynott had a bit of an obsession with 'The dusty Romance' of the Wild West

This song is about that kind of business
