Say goodnight and go

Skipping beats, blushing cheeks I am struggling
Daydreaming, bed scenes in the corner cafe
And then I'm left in bits recovering tectonic tremblings
You get me every time

[Chorus]
Why d'ya have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you
Must you make me laugh so much
It's bad enough we get along so well
Say goodnight and go

Follow you home, you've got your headphones on and you're dancing
Got lucky, beautiful shot you taking everything off watch the curtains wide open
Then you fall in the same routine flicking through the TV relaxed and reclining
And you think your alone

[Chorus]

One of these days, you'll miss your train and come stay with me
It's always say goodnight and go
We'll have drinks and talk about things, any excuse to stay awake with you
You'll sleep here, I'd sleep there, but then the heating may be down again
At my convenience
We'd be good, we'd be great together.

[Chorus]

Say goodnight and go,
Why's it always always
Goodnight and go
Darling not again
Goodnight and go.

My Interpretation:I personally think its about having a creepy attraction for someone. Though you're still new to the whole feeling.

ex: Skipping beats, blushing cheeks, I am struggling.
(Prehaps to show this isn't what she wants to feel but it's happening anyway?)

I could agree that this person is out of her reach but then why would they have such a warm click yet she still isn't with her mate?
Maybe she likes this person bunches but she's too afraid to act on her feelings so instead she stalks him.
ex: Do I really need to give one? Just listen to the song. ;)

She also may be trying to pull away though so far it fails in bittersweet misery.
    ex: The chorus.

While stalking him, she daydreams of them together and plans out how everything will fall together. This part is my favorite. (bridge) Because it's creepy and funny.
ex + most admired part: "But Then The Heating May Be Down Again... (To my convience)"

Love the song. So adorable in an odd but true way. Because honestly who hasn't daydreamed about being with the one they secretly wish to be with forever? I have...

Such a late comment, I know. But I love this song. <3

General Comment:y'all... get with the program. this song is about obsession and probably originates from a letter she (IH) might have gotten from a STALKER. "beautiful shot, you're taking everything off..." "follow you home..." "watch the curtains wide open..." "you've got your headphones on..." (since when does a lover wear his/her headphones with you in the room...?

y'all, get your OC heads out of the sand. this song is NOT a lovesong. it's a sicko song. try reading and actually understanding ALL of the lyrics sometime... sheesh. y'all are doomed if you think this is LOVE.

too bad, so sad. for you.

Song Meaning:This is what I think it means, due to the fact I relate it to it.
I think it's about a girl who likes a guy but the guy is in a commited relationship, and even though she tries to stay away she can't help but to go to him more and more which it's why it's bad they get along so well. That's why I think when she says "Say goodnight and go" he says goodnight to her and goes to his girlfriend. That's just what I think...because that's the situation I'm in.

General Comment:This song is just a reminder of the "one that got away"... When you fall in love with someone and you know you can literally never have them, but it's nice to imagine anyway.

Yes, I agree there is a definite "stalker" element to this song. It's a little creepy at times, but I think it is an extreme version of the feeling you get when you catch yourself daydreaming about the person you have a crush on and then you realize you've been staring at them for 15 minutes. The light and airy feeling you get when your crush makes you laugh for the first time. This song encompasses all the excitement and strangeness of being in love, but only from afar. Sometimes there is more passion in a daydream than in real life.

Why'd you have to be so cute?
    It's impossible to ignore you.
Must you make me laugh so much?
It's bad enough we get along so well.
    Say goodnight and go.

For my own personal anecdote, this part of the song reminds me of when I realized I was completely head-over-heels in love with my best friend... I still haven't told him. There have been times when he and I will stand at the door of his house talking for hours waiting for the other one to say goodnight and go.

General Comment:So many people totally missed the mark, just thinking "it's such a cute song" and I think that they totally underestimate the clever way this song was done. It's a sort of love song, but, as many have pointed out, it grows progressively more into an unhealthy obsession. I don't think she was trying to make any big statement, but it's just her having a little fun. I know this song makes me laugh when I think about it.

General Comment:I agree with everything that's been said about this being a stalker situation.

There seems to be a push-pull theme in a few of her songs when it comes to attraction (for example, also in The Walk). She likes this guy, but at the same time she really doesn't want to. She says "it's bad enough we get along so well." And "say goodnight and go" sounds like it could mean that's what they always do, say goodnight and go their separate ways, OR she's asking him to say goodnight and go because she really doesn't want to like him as much as she does and she wants him to go away..

It's almost like she prefers the day-dream version of him to the real him. And maybe she prefers to stalk him outside his window because it keeps him comfortably at arms' length...she doesn't really want a real relationship with the real person maybe...

My Interpretation:It's about a stalker no question.

"Follow you home, you've got your headphones on and you're dancing.
Got lucky, beautiful shot; you're taking everything off, watch the curtains wide open.
Then you fall in the same routine, flicking through the TV, relaxed and reclining,
    And you think you're alone..."

Taking pictures of him/her in the window
following the person home when they cant hear because they are wearing head phones
and its regular because this stalker knows that the persons routine is to flip through tv channels at night
and then the really funny and yet really creepy line "and you think you're alone"

Then in the first two lines
"Daydreaming, bed scenes in the corner cafe"
This person is daydreaming about having sex with the other on at a cafe. Ironically making their love private even though this persons love for the one they are stalking is completely secret.

then in the bridge she says
"You'll sleep here, I'll sleep there,
But then the heating may be down again,
    At my convenience."
What this means is that to start they would sleep in separate place because thats decent. But if the heating is broken, it will get too cold to sleep separately so they would have to sleep in the same bed to stay warm. Or at least thats what she is hoping for.

Also in the chorus it says "Why'd you have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you. "
This is funny because the stalker is blaming the stalkee for being stalked because they are just so cute.
And then they say "Its impossible to ignore you" which is an understatement, not only is this person paying attention to the person they are infatuated by but they are also stalking the crap out of them
This is a completely disillusioned stalker as most stalkers are.

All in all creepiest song ever. But I can't stop listening to it.

My Interpretation:this song is not abt stalking... ha ha :) it's a girl's crush expressed thru the imagery of a doll house.

    the doll represents the girl.
the dollhouse is the inside of her mind. or her world.
the puppets in the dollhouse are her friends, the people in her life.
she's just a pretty doll, trapped in her doll house with all the other dolls.
her crush is someone OUTSIDE the dollhouse - represented by the guy watching tv.
who "turns her key" and brings her to life.

he's just outside her world - larger than life - she cant have him.
but she can dream abt him
she can watch him watch tv, relax -
through the open windows of her doll house.
and then he goes to sleep.
"it's always say goodnight and go"

General Comment:This chorus is so simple but rings truer than 99% of the songs out there. Its so great because ppl can relate so well to the ideas/feeling being conveyed. The music/harmony + lyrics just paint such a vivid picture. I think its about being blindsided by your feelings for someone who, for whatever reason, is unattainable.
I know im not alone if feeling it matches my situation perfectly.I have fallen so hard for a good friend of mine, but she is dating another friend. Everything about her is intoxicating, I can't help but smile every time she talks to me. We are so similar and get along effortlessly, but at the end of the day its not my place to tell her.....(for now):)
