Lyrics for Mushaboom as interpreted by Milkman82

Mushaboom Lyrics
Helping the kids out of their coats
But wait the babies haven't been born
Unpacking the bags and setting up
And planting lilacs and buttercups

But in the meantime I've got it hard
Second floor living without a yard
It may be years until the day
My dreams will match up with my pay

Old dirt road
(Mushaboom mushaboom)
Knee deep snow
(Mushaboom mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow old
(Mushaboom mushaboom)

I got a man to stick it out
And make a home from a rented house
And we'll collect the moments one by one
I guess that's how the future's done

How many acres how much light
Tucked in the woods and out of sight
Talk to the neighbors and tip my cap
On a little road barely on the map

Old dirt road
(Mushaboom mushaboom)
Knee deep snow
(Mushaboom mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow old
(Mushaboom mushaboom)
(Mushaboom mushaboom)
Old dirt road rambling rose
(Mushaboom mushaboom)
Watching the fire as we grow old
(Mushaboom mushaboom)
Well I'm sold

this song is great...
the way her voice raises up and down.
the bright eyes cover is good as well, although it doesn't match up to the original.

I finally got a hold of it and, yes, it was lovely. I still like the original better. The only problem is, whenever I get the song stuck in my head, it plays back as Feist's music with Oberst's voice. *shakes head*

I'm actually pretty sure Bright Eyes is the one covering... This is Feist's song.

Southbound is correct. This was written by Feist and Bright Eyes covered it and released it on their "Motion Sickness" (its a live album)

I really like this song.

But I do not know what a "Mushaboom" is.

I read somewhere that Mushaboom refers to Mushaboom Harbor, a seaside town in Feist's native Nova Scotia, but only Feist knows what she really ment using this word.

I rewrote this song in my poetry anthology for for my GCSE, as a method of cut-up poetry.

Helping babies, coats out but the unpacking kids
Of their setting, buttercups wait and bags been,
Lilacs haven't, up the planting and born.

But second, without a meantime, in the dreams,
Until my pay; years will be living up hard
With it may match my floor:
Day-yard got it.

Watching old knee dirt as the road
Fire deep we snow old grow.

The future's out, we'll collect how I make one guess;
That's done.
And the stick moments one a man to a house
And, from it got by, I rented a home.

Acres in the sight of woods, tip a neighbour’s map,
How to talk and light on the cap, tucked out,
On my many -little much barely: The Road How.

Watching old knee dirt as the road,
Fire deep we snow old grow.
Watching well I'm fire rose,
Rambling as we sold the grow.

it was great source material.

Mushaboom is a village on the southeast coast of Nova Scotia, about 75 miles east of Halifax. Presumably an idyllic location to settle down and live a quiet life.

Yes, Mushaboom is a place here in Nova Scotia, but someone up there said Feist was born here... that's not true. She was born in Calgary, but it's true that Mushaboom is a great place to live a quiet life. I'm quite sure that Mushaboom the place is what she's referring to in the song... I saw her live and she was saying about how she wished she could live there and everything and then she sang it. So yeah. But wow she was incredible live. If you ever get the chance make sure you see her, she's absolutely flawless live.

this is such a sweet song, i love the beat, and the claps at the end!
i love the word 'mushaboom', its fun
i've never actually been to mushaboom, though i do live in nova scotia.
but it sounds like a nice little place, with 'a little road barely on the map'.
there's lots of quaint little places like that here, and if you saw one you'd probably want to write a song about it too!
if that is the mushaboom she is referring to.
but i doubt there are too many 'Mushaboom' s around ..hmm

a woman like that has a moral obligation to be a singer. not allowing the world to listen to her voice in such a pretty song would be a major mistake

the situation has definitely been described
but there's definitely elements of poverty mentioned

But in the meantime I've got it hard
Second floor living without a yard

this line is talking about how now she lives in an apartment, scraping by and longing for the day when she can get the cash to live the life she's wanted

Oh God, I saw Leslie and Conor perform this live together. Needless to say, it was endlessly amazing and I still have the fondest memory of that show. It was the first time I heard Feist (I was there for Bright Eyes) and I instantly fell in love and bought her CD right then and there. It was such a fantastic show, and this is my favorite song from her.

I call it my happy song. 'Cause it gives you that feeling of bouncy contentment, if there is such a thing.

I guess part of it's about gradually building your life up (collect the moments one by one, i guess that's how the future's done). like she's not sayign that everything she wants in life is unobtainable, and she's willing to wait for it (it may be years until the day my dreams will match up with my pay), and making do and being content with what she's got until then, like things may be hard "in the meantime", but she's a-dreaming of a better future.

or somethiiinng.
