He said, ‘fuck this’ and ‘fuck that’
and this guy’s the diplomat
stares into the blur of the tuner lights
It can’t be Nashville every night

He said, ‘we are what we lack’
and this guy’s the autodidact
stares into the glare of the TV lights
It can’t be Nashville every night

with its' la la oh oh ohs,
whoa-ohs and yeahs.
la las,
whoa-ohs and
yeahs

He sang, ‘I’ll die before I quit’
and this guy’s the limit
stares into the queer of the firefight
It can’t be Nashville every night

with its' la la oh oh ohs,
whoa-ohs and yeahs.
la las,
whoa-ohs and
yeahs.

General Comment:Possibly one of the best of the Hip canon...but also indicative of their recent habit of having one or two solid songs per album. IVL was their last masterpiece (imho).

General Comment:where did you hear it's about toby? I don't get that from the lyrics...seems to be about country music in general though

General Comment:I don't care who its about, it may as well be about western music, or even western art. It's not about Toby specifically, its about new art.

General Comment:Apparently this song is about the over-the-top antics of one Toby Keith. I guess Gord thinks his musical style and the way he conveys himself are ruining country music. There also might be a little resentment for Toby Keith being a supporter of the Bush government (as many country singers are, with the exception of the Dixie Chicks). After all, the "In Between Evolution" album is supposed to be about American ideals and foreign policy.
