Since I'm a cynic I completely agree with all of you. This is a very good song, it points out real problems that we have in the world. I honestly don't want to be a cynic, but I am because the truth is everyone is greedy no matter how much they put out to everyone that they're selfless and caring.
As you already said, I think this song's related to the present world, how we, humans, are destroying our planet. We don't take care much of it, but only ourself. The technology is much better than it was, but it also detroy the Earth. (the evolution of the car for an example) And now, we see how far we've gone, and tried to stop that. But it's gonna take a lot of time to help that...
I agree, except I think this is written from the point of view of someone living a decade or two from now if we continue our present course. When the wonton deforestation, polution, etc, has brought the world to the point where it can no longer support us and humans will be on the endangered list... (We’re the last of our kind) Then we will at last put aside the greed that has brought us there and make an attempt to stop it, but it is too little, too late. The effects of our pollution continue long after they are released, stopping the production when we're on the brink won't be enough. (As the sea started rising, The land that we’d conquered just washed away.) Global warming melting the icecaps, rising the sea levels... We conquer the land rather than living with it. (Though balance is something fragile) The ecosystem is a fragile balance that we are tipping. (The sacrifice was much too high) The sacrifice is the destruction of our world in exchange for the profit we make in the process. (Today is the end of tomorrow) This is the best line. Usually it is flipped around "The death of today is only the birth of tomorrow", a cliche of optimism. Here is is the opposite. What we do today is destroying tomorrow.

I agree with all of you. I was attracted to this song because it described a friendship I and a few of my friends had with two others. We tried so hard and there was little we wouldn't do for them. However they just took and took then shunned us like we were some disease. We tried to save them, but it was all in vain.

The songtext of ‘Forsaken’ depicts a situation the world might, or will, find itself in one day. To envision this kind of situation, you should watch the movie ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ first, and listen to ‘Forsaken’ afterwards. The songtext really speaks for itself, but watching this movie will enable you to create a visual image to go with it.
‘Forsaken’ tells about the fact that there will be a moment that nature’s elements will turn against us. We have a habit of bending everything to our wills, but not everything we do is without counter-reaction or consequences. Nature itself is, of course, changing too, we’re just speeding this process up at lightning speed; in the wrong direction.
There is the phenomenon of global warming, that makes the Northpole’s ice cap melt, which, in turn, makes the sea level rise. The direct effect of this ice melting is that the polar bears are now facing extinction, and Holland gets to lie below the water level more and more. These are only 2 examples. Unfortunately, there are many more.
Basically, ‘Forsaken’ comes down to the fact that humankind has been changing the climate dramatically, thinking only of their own economic gain and not about nature nor about the fact that this mistake might turn out to be fatal. The moment they’ll want to change, because there are no other options left, it will be too late. People experience this as nature abandoning them, but in fact we are the ones that abandoned our Mother Earth.
I’d say: look up the term ‘Kyoto treaty’ on Google, and you’ll find lots of information on this subject. You will be able to form your own opinion on this treaty, based on the information provided by its supporters and opponents.

It is very much a song depicting a bleak future caused by our relentless manipulation of the world around us. The reckless destruction of the natural environments we inhabit will return to haunt us in the future as nature forsakes us and our existence. Our greed and blindness bring this about and the little sacrifices we must make to attempt to remedy this are too expensive for the corporate mind and the governments of this world.

It's funny. The slogan of our school is "today is tomorrow", but in the song she sings "today is the END of tomorrow". Kind of cynical, but true. We're doing really bad stuff to the environment.
