Lyrics for Loose Lips as interpreted by whatarewe

Loose Lips Lyrics
loose lips might sink ships but loose gooses take trips
to san francisco, double dutch disco,
tech tv hottie, do it for scotty
do it for the living and do it for the dead
do it for the monsters under your bed
do it for the teenagers and do it for your mom
broken hearts hurt but they make us strong and

we won't stop until somebody calls the cops
and even then we'll start again and just pretend that
nothing ever happened

we won't stop until somebody calls the cops
and even then we'll start again and just pretend that
nothing ever happened

we're just dancing, we're just hugging,
singing, screaming, kissing, tugging
on the sleeve of how it used to be
how's it gonna be?
i'll drop kick russell stover, move into the starting over house
and know matt rouse and jest are watching me achieve my dreams
and we'll pray, all damn day, every day,
that all this shit our president has got us in will go away
while we strive to figure out a way we can survive
these trying times without losing our minds

so if you wanna burn yourself remember that I LOVE YOU
and if you wanna cut yourself remember that I LOVE YOU
and if you wanna kill yourself remember that I LOVE YOU
call me up before your dead, we can make some plans instead
send me an IM, i'll be your friend

shysters live from scheme to scheme and my 4th quarter pipe dreams
are seeming more and more worth fighting for
so i'll curate some situations, make my job a big vacation
and i'll say FUCK BUSH AND FUCK THIS WAR
my war paint is sharpie ink and i'll show you how much my shit stinks
and ask you what you think because your thoughts and words are powerful
they think we're disposable, well both my thumbs opposable
are spelled out on a double word and triple letter score

we won't stop until somebody calls the cops
and even then we'll start again and just pretend that
nothing ever happened

we won't stop until somebody calls the cops
and even then we'll start again and just pretend that
nothing ever happened

we're just dancing, we're just hugging,
singing, screaming, kissing, tugging
on the sleeve of how it used to be

"I'll show you how much my shit stinks and ask you what you think because your thoughts and words are powerful"

-this is a truly incredible line, and it makes the listener want to befriend kimya dawson and have long, intense conversations with her.

"spelled out in a double-word and triple letter score"

-an obvious scrabble reference, but she not only references something that everybody is familiar with, she does it very well and it flows well with the rest of the song

This song is just incredible.

Kimya really feels this way about her fans. She really will take out the time to talk to anyone and everyone if they're having troubles. When she was still on the EC, she invited people to her house for potlucks/shows/to say hi through her mailing list. She is one of the kindest human beings I've never met.

how can anything in a song be unnecessary? it's the expression of the writer, and also reflects the views of alotta people so i definitely wouldn't call it chilldish either.

this song is wonderful, kimya is wonderful.

My favorite lines are

They think we're disposable
Well both my thumbs opposable

Now that I have friends in the military it's more expressive than ever.

I got one of these things so that you guys could actually know what this song is about...

this song is about protesting...
"We won't stop until somebody calls the cops
And even then we'll start again and just pretend
That nothing ever happened"

she wants you to stand up for what you belive in... and protest for the rights you want... also she is very anti-bush anti-war... seriously listen to her other songs... its her belifes if you dont like them dont listen to her...

i absolutely love this song, and its got a lot of war references, not just the "fuck bush" part...just the title!

"loose lips sink ships" was a slogan in WWII because our government thought that any information that was let out could hurt their defence against the axis...basically all news, all video, all media of any kind was censored beyond belief because of their paranoia.

i also agree completely with cat8882, that's my favorite line too....showing that we've evolved and that we're all human shows that our armies believe that any lives sacrificed are okay, cause we're disposable and there's always more people...and hey, if they run out, they can always reinstate the draft...(and for that reason, i'm going to college.)

a powerful song, I LOVE KIMYA!

great song. Kimya's gonna blow up after juno makes 100s of millions even though she's the best thing about the movie.

well kimya and michael cera. that dude can make me laugh just with his smile. Typecast but still great. sorry not to comment on the song. but here we go... the self mutilation part is intense and hits hard. It's crazy how the songs progresses from ostensibly nonsensical lyrics accompanied by a great beat but then throws in this call for restraint and mental health like she's the dorothea dix of post millenium songwriting. Then blatantly political outrage even though on further analysis the intro has political overtones as well. But the rhythm and synergy of the guitar and lyrical rhythm are what really makes the song amazing. It's so simple yet it sticks in your head like a mouse on a glue trap. Even if you wanted to get away from the song you couldn't. Play it again.

Kimya is NOT the female version of Elliott Smith. Her style is childish (read: simplistic, not that is a bad thing) with not only her singing, but how she talks about certain topics, especially with the cutting and suicide aspects of the song. She speaks with a simplistic mind about troubling aspects in society. Plus the song is catchy, has upbeat sound yet somewhat morbid lyrics. It's an interesting take and it works for her as an artist. But she's no Elliott Smith.

I think it's interesting she says, "Curate" some situations. Curate can mean organize/take care of or, in another instance, mean being responsible for the care of souls. It's just an interesting word choice... I don't know if she has another meaning behind it, but I think it's clever.
